Issues with Neo Geo AES and MVS converters.

So I've now tried 2x MVS Magic keys and now a Daedalus converter and I still cannot get my MVS carts to play properly on my AES. I should note that every AES game I own works perfectly on this system.

My AES has a US bios with serial number 015692 and I'm using the official AC adapter PRO-POW-UL 5V 3A which came with it (I'm not the original owner of the system, but I'm assuming this is the original AC adapter). The specs on the bottom sticker of the AES says "use PRO-POW AC Adapter only".

With the first magic key, I would occasionally get the games to work with full sound and graphics but I had to fiddle with inserting the MVS cart into the adapter for 30 minutes straight otherwise I'd get no sound. So at least I know theoretically that these games can run, it was just an absolute nightmare and would only work maybe 1 out 25 attempts. Oddly some of the time it would even run the games in slow-motion!? which was very bizarre.

I figured that this Magic Key was defective so I returned it for another one. The next one I received was even worse, and I couldn't get anything except garbled graphics and still no sound. I could never get any games to work properly with the second Magic key. Side note, I also tried the AES magic key and it worked without any issues whatsoever.

Now I'm on to trying the Daedalus converter, and now I get perfect sound but the graphics are an absolute mess. I tried flipping the little switch on the bottom of the converter but none of the games did anything with it flipped.

Does anyone have a clue what might be causing these issues? It's like my AES just refuses to work with any MVS converters period. Do I need a special power adapter to use the Daedalus or these other converters since they use more power? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Try using a different power supply, maybe yours is deffective and when stressed cannot output the required amperage. Make sure you get a PS with the right polarity.

Do you think I should just buy an identical power supply to the one I currently have or is there a 3rd party one available?

Thanks

You have more patience then me . The magic key that i got had sound problem . Tried to return it but the seller gave me the wrong address and it was returned to me after 8 months. I said screw it to converters and bought a CMVS. I kept my Magic Key has a reminder that cheap chinese crap is not worth it .

The Neo Store sells a power supply specifically for units that are finicky with the magic converter. That being said, mvs converters have always been touchy, and having them work 100% with any given home system and converter combo is luck. I've got the fusion converter, on my system everything works great except for Metal Slug X. Other people with the same setup have no issues.

It honestly sounds like you need to clean your slots and mvs carts. There's no reason to believe you got 3 bad converters when the two common things are your AES and your carts.

MSX on the 161 works on my Fusion, and so does MS4 on the 161, but real MS4 cart does not

This sounds like a nightmare. With all the money you have invested in convertors have you tried a different Neo system?

Maybe the replacement AC Adapter will do the trick. It's possible your AC Adapter could be on the way out.

I'd agree with this but all of this stuff is basically brand new so there is nothing to clean. One of the games I'm trying is a NOS Metal Slug 4 with less than an hour of play time on it.

I know it's an issue with my system I just have no fucking clue what it is as I've never had any problems at all playing my AES carts and the AES magic key I tried worked fine as well. I'm very close to just giving up entirely and playing on fucking emulators at this point.

Even when something is new there is still a film on the connectors. As for MS4, the PCB needs to be shaved. The PCBs are about 2-3mm too wide for the slot so when inserted, they warp the boards and don't make good contact.

Let us know how that PSU works. I'm curious if that supply is the same as the chinese one that's $6.00 on eBay. That seller is shady too.

Are you using a universe bios? It will throw an error report so maybe you track down the issue.

Ok, can you tell me what I need to do to clean it? I'm also trying a Strikers 1945 Plus MVS and I get similar problems. I have noticed that the Daedalus converter requires A LOT of force to get the carts inserted. It would be nice if they had some fucking directions to go along with these things. It was literally just a box with converter, no instructions or explanations or anything.

I have a Unibios but it has not been installed yet, I wanted to make sure I could get the converter work first before venturing into modding the system. I will return the PSU if it doesn't work. Which Chinese adapter are you referring to on ebay?

Well the new power adapter did absolutely nothing. I'm done fucking around with these converters.

I think you're out of luck. From what I've heard Magickeys are notoriously finicky on 5V AESes. NeoTeam suggests using a 5.5V adapter to compensate for the greater power draw, but that's sure to fry your AES in the long run.

If you tried both the magic key and daedalus and both had problems, then I'd say it's your AES if you are sure the MVS carts are good.

As for cleaning the carts, use a pink eraser on them to get the film and dirt off then apply some deoxit-d5 before inserting it.

It wouldn't if the AES + converter + MVS cart causes the voltage to drop.

And yes, get a CMVS, the AES + carts + converters will net you a lot of nice MVS stuff and an Omega CMVS.

Most of my games are AES, so there's no way I'm dumping them. I only have 3 MVS games so far but I am seriously considering the Omega CMVS as this point.

Just sell those converters, except the Daedalus. And get a loose newer model aes. Just a bare console. The psus are much easier to locate. Give the Daedalus a run on your new console. No dice still just go cmvs or supergun. Sire you have a ton of aes, but if you have that many you could likely sell them and get every good mvs game.
