Thoughts on selling off CPS2 carts...

I found myself contemplating consolidating space with the release of the CPS2 multi cart...

I doubt I will actually sell off my originals...but the thought has crossed my mind more than a few times over the last few weeks...

These carts are BIG and having 15-20 of them takes up a lot of real estate...plus never having to change batteries or swap out the boards in your cab, not having multiple A boards ect...quit tempting.

Is anybody else thinking about selling and wondering how much play their originals will get once you have the ease of the multicart option?

I went through my CPS2 purge a while back and did miss some of those boards. Personally, I've got a soft spot for them and was lucky to have those let go on the cheap.

Real estate-wise, they are the most easiest to store when compared to some older pcbs. Considering I have all the CPS2 boards I want, I don't see myself heading the multicart route.

I am planning on buying the Multi-Cart but i don't plan on selling any of my CPS2 boards once i buy it. It did stop me from buying more CPS2 boards, since i'll have them all on the multi-cart , no point in spending more money . I only have 6 games so it doesn't take too much real estate.

I have 9 CPS2 games. I might thin the herd with common sense stuff and been meaning to for a longtime.

I don't need Darkstalkers, VH2 & VS as VH2 & VS cover a full roster, for example.

However, I'm selling off my CPS2 just because of a multicart.

I have all 5 of the Vampire franchise CPS2 boards and I only play Vampire Savior. I have contemplated getting rid of Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 as I just view them as a recolored rom hack of the better Vampire Savior, but wouldn't want to part with the earlier two games (Darkstalkers and Vampire Hunter), since the first game has the core story and the second game, while having weird palate swaps, is quite unique. Even then, I intentionally bought all 5 of those games to have the full set...so, OCD sometimes wins out over common sense.

That said, I have been tempted to part with the "Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara" conversion board I have since I don't need both it and a Progear conversion (which would get used for the multi-cart).

If you're thinking about letting some boards go: Look at the (collection) filler boards and the hype/chase boards. You know 'em when bought 'em. And you know 'em when you see 'em cause you porb. only played 'em a couple of times after you got 'em.

BUT, hold the boards you played a lot in the arcade. You'll miss these and end up buying them back. Also, try and keep some cool stuff: like club boards and trophy boards. It's fun to have a some cool pieces in your collection.

I think I'm pretty much of the same mindset...I'll likely shave a few from the Darkstalkers/SF: Alpha series. Along with not buying Mega Man and Slam Masters II now...I probably won't venture into buying any CPS1 carts now either since I've heard a mulitcart for that too is in the works.

...and that is a good point on selling Progear conversions, why have a "dedicated" conversion and a multicart version??

I recall reading it as the CPS2 multicart would be able to play the CPS1 game roms, since they could be converted to run on the hardware.

In theory, such a conversion is possible (CPS1 on CPS2), because all the important hardware is there.

BUT, in reality, it requires some skills 'cause the memory maps are totally different between the two boards.

I'm waiting to see this too.

IMHO, I think a lot of the current Progear conversions are gonna get upgraded with muti-kits.

I recall being disappointed with the Progear conversion I got. I wanted to play it for the first time from beginning to end in English just to experience the story...and I got to the ending and it was still in Japanese (since the ending uses flat images with text on them). The multi-cart should solve that issue as it can have the game roms for each region on there.

Hope CPS2 carts gets cheaper with multi-carts coming out. I doubt it though.

If/when I do I'll keep that in mind. A more likely scenario would probably be me trading my battery boards to the purists for phoenixed boards. I'm just getting very lazy with battery swaps.

The only CPS2 game I have is Mars Matrix, and I'll definitely be keeping that battery up and operational. Cause, it's Mars Matrix. :)

I had thought about this too. My collection was never mighty, I think my most was 10. I let go of the stuff I didn't play like Marvel vs SF, VH, SSF2, and I donated an Xmen COTA to Darksoft for the project. I have 3 that I will never let go of for any reason:

Vampire Savior, fox helped me get a full kit from YAJ

SFZero2 Alpha, my favorite Street Fighter

Puzzle Fighter, Tyranix helped me hunt this one down and it's one of the wife's favorites.

I only have a yellow battery 19XX and a blue dimahoo conversion. I don’t really want to alter the Dimahoo, so maybe I’ll try and trade the 19XX for pretty much any phoenixed game to put the multi in. We’ll see when the time comes.

A conversion is the best candidate for a multi-cart as its already had its Original Mask Roms raped and likely tossed.

I see what you are saying, it’s just that I’d use the multi in a hori cab for fighters, it’d be nice to still have the dimahoo separately to put in a vert. That was my reasoning anyway.

I can't think of a single multi-cart, be it console or arcade, that has lowered the value or heightened the availability of originals on the market. I think CPS2 may be harder to come by. For a lot of folks this is going to be their first CPS2 item - then they'll want an original of the games they enjoy most.

For me personally I can't enjoy multi-carts. The ability to change games so quickly just dulls everything - bad run, eh switch games, eh this isn't any good, nah this isn't as good as I remember, maybe i'll go back to that shooter, meh gaming time is up. I know that isn't everyone - but I know i'm not alone either.
