I have a SF2 Rainbow I want to convert to Ghouls and Ghosts. I need the .bin files to burn the roms but on mame there are only the .jed files and trawling through them to convert is a bit convoluted.

Anyone done this before and have the .bin set on hand?

.jed files are the fuse maps for PAL/GAL chips.

Remember that MAME roms are hierarchical, so some roms are dependent on other versions. For example, "ghouls and ghosts (us)" relies on the "Dai Makai-mura" roms (ghouls.zip), so the bins you need may be in the parent romset.

And where would one make contact with this parent?

Figure it out, use the internet, really shouldn't be asking here anyway.

Yeah did that, some discussions going on but need a bit more help with it. I dont see what the issue is with discussing it either? The game is already a boot, just trying to do something else with it.

If it's a problem mods please lock this.

http://retrogamebay.free.fr/?convertir-une-pcb-capcom-cps-en-daimakaimura-resale-version.html

The page is a guide on this. Just run the page through google translate. You can get the necessary PAL dumps through this site:

Hi mikey, i did end up using those even though it is for Damakaimura and not the American GnG.

But! Problems.

The game intro starts with arthur and his love interest but i only get a black baclground, when i add credits the game starts but then immediately crashes.

I am using 27c400's for the graphic roms, 1001 for sound and 4002's for the program code. I know the program code should be 4096's but from my understanding 4002's are the same i think?

Possibly a bad burn. Did you check and see if all the CRCs match?

Only tested the board tonight, will do a proper check tomorrow and report back.

Got your Gal yesterday too Fox, cheers for that! :)

Yeah, it could be a bad burn. If the eprom is too slow that might be an issue as well, although I don't think CPS1 stuff requires particularly fast eproms. Anything at 150ns or faster should be good. I realize this is the Daimakaimura version of the game, but you might be able to make it Ghouls 'n Ghosts by swapping one of the roms out with another that contains the English text and title screen. I'm not sure which rom contains that though. I'd actually be interested in finding that out myself

I read somewhere it is 22 and 23 that need to be changed to go from dam to gng. So same as going from sf2 ce to rainbow.

Glad it worked out, sorry I couldn't help. GnG just has a huge history for scams on Ebay, didn't know how ppl felt here about boots.

Bumping an old thread instead of starting a new one as I have a question involving this process. Could the speed of the gfx eproms I am using cause the board to not boot? I am using 27C400-150 chips. I see conflicting comments about chip speed. In some cases I see that it needs to be 120ms or faster. In other posts I see anything 150ms and faster will work. I have reverified by chips and they all look good. Any input would be appreciated.

A little follow up...

I swapped the chips over to a different SF2 board and the game is not playable but the title screen logo does not show. The other thing I noticed is that dip switch settings changed what level the game starts on. I have been looking for a dip switch listing for the conversion, but have not found one yet.

I wonder if part of my initial problem was that I was using a Rainbow Edition board that had program roms in positions 24 through 31 and in (I think) 21 or 22. I see no difference in the jumpers between the two boards, but I am still looking into it.

When I converted one to strider it was just simple EPROM swap and you have to replace the GAL chip. You did change that right? If you didn't it won't boot.

The game does boot and it is now playable, but the title screen logo doesn't display and I can not get it to run on a B board that had program roms in positions 24 through 31. I bought a programmer and some GAL chips for this conversion in particular and they GAL worked fine.

What game did you use to convert to Strider ?

Run of the mill sf2ce board. I was gonna go the ghouls route, but a guy on Klov revealed to me any game can be converted with the right Gal chip and made me one. I kept all my sf2ce Roms in case I ever wanted to switch back but I got a turbo board with a dash A board right after so said forget that :-) i wasn't even aware there were jumpers on the B boards but I definitley didn't have to change anything.

After learning a little more, I realized that there is no logo that displays when a credit is inserted, but the title logo does display in attract mode. Didn't know that initially, but now I do. So from what I can see, the game is running fine on one board but I still need to see why it won't boot on the other one that had program roms for rainbow edition in sockets 24-31. The mystery continues. I also found it interesting that the starting level can be changed based on what dip switch is set on the third switch bank.

Some of those bootleg SF2 boards use different PALS instead of the usual BPRG1 & IOB1.

Thanks for the DIP info. My final problem was solved by replacing the 2 PALs at 11d and 12d. The initital board I was trying to convert was a bootleg street fighter 2 ce. I didn't know the pals were different until I started swapping chips. I fortunately had a few extra GALs and was able to get it going. Now to figure out how to do a Strider conversion.
