The Immortal - I know there is a pc version but the genesis version is more gory with finishers.
Fatal labyrinth - Randomly generated dungeons , kinda rogue-like

Here's another one, I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, and I had no idea it existed until TAP told me about it a couple months ago...

Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. It's a strategy game, plays similar to X-Com. It's a lot of fun, and there's an awful lot of depth to it.

That game is hard as shit, reminds me of old SSI gold box games.
Play Rambo III, shit is awesome. Stallone looks awesome on the front cover. The game is pretty boss to boot.

FUCK YES Beffy. One of my all-time favorite Genesis games. I actually wrote a mini-review on my site a few years ago. It's an American-style RPG made by SSI. Has almost nothing to do with Buck Rogers, except that he makes the occasional appearance in the game as an NPC. makes me wonder if they got the license after designing the game. It's hard, but pretty short.

Here are some other favorites of mine that don't pop to mind for most people when they think of the Genny:

Kid Chameleon - A fun platformer in the style of Super Mario Bros. Really long and with no save system, though.

Starflight - Open-world space exploration game. If you like Star Control II, you should enjoy this.

Championship Pro-Am - 16-bit remake of the original R.C. Pro-Am on the NES.

Phelios - Vert shooter with an ancient Greek theme (or is it ancient Rome?)

Fire Shark - Toaplan shooter.

Chiki Chiki Boys - Port of a Capcom arcade platformer.

Mega Turrican - Much more playable than the Genesis port of the original Turrican, which was much better on the Amiga.

I always seem to go back to Pirates! Gold. I'm terrible at it but I love playing it. It's not an obscure game really, but I don't hear it talked about much anymore. Really I don't hear anyone talking much about Genesis games on forums anymore, which is a shame, it's a great system.

Thanks dudes! There's enough suggestions here to last a lifetime!

Didn't know there was a Buck Rogers game either! :buttrock:

P.S.- Pirates! Gold is a great game. My buddy had that one when we were teens and I watched him play it for hours, lol. Wouldn't mind snagging a copy at some point.

Great thread, i was just so into SNES growing up, my Genesis/Sega CD was hardly ever used until i traded it for a 3DO. Upside is im playing games I never got the chance to play for the first time. I'll make sure to pickup some of these suggestions.

Get Sword Of Sodan and you won't even tell your friends about the deal you got.

:lolz:

You're not fooling me with that one, my buddy had that game.

It wouldn't be bad if they fixed the controls and hit detection. The sprites are freakin' huge!

If you like brawlers, Deadly Moves is a pretty good SF clone with some neat Mode 7-esque graphics.

I'm drawing blanks on most of the games people have been mentioning but I can vouch for Kid Chameleon being badass, also this thread has made me realize I seriously need to get back into Genesis collecting, sounds like a wealth of stuff I totally glossed over, gonna need to dust off the old nomad and model 1

Don't put off collecting for the genesis for to long.Prices have been going up for complete games lately,at auctions at least.Recently i was looking for gunstar heroes cib "and for unknown reasons" sellers now want more for the u.s version. In the end i just settle for buying the japanese version since in price it's cheaper for me

Power Ball, my favorite sports game on the Genesis. Namco made it and it's sorta unique, kinda like Rugby, Football, American Football all rolled into one, the controls are butters and it's all kinds of awesome.

Dinosaurs for Hire, so great, you gotta try it!

Sunset Riders, I used to live by this port.

Street Smart, another great port from SNK before Fatal Fury, sorta Geese and Jeff take on all of south town...(imagination runs wild I know)

Rocket Knight Adventures, dunno how popular this game is but I like it a lot. I know it got an HD release, not bad either.

Weapon Lord, SNES is better but the Nomad begs to differ.

Langrisser, a hori shmup, really fucking awesome!

I dunno much about Genesis, I wish I knew more.

Light Crusader

This. It's an isometric action-RPG by Treasure in the same vein as LandStalker. Albeit shorter and easier and with a darker, more Western tone. Love it. Give it a shot if you've got 6-8 hours to spare.

I couldn't ever get into this one considering it was made by treasure.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one to appreciate Kid Chameleon.
Really underrated, it's a small gem and so cheap that's worth a try, the best Mario clone you can find on a Sega machine.
I dig the darker and oneiric mood, fit perfectly the Genesis' colour-palette and chip music.
