Government of the people, by the people, for the people.

We have what we've earned. We deserve every bit of criticism for the politico-tainment farce that we call our federal government. There is no turning this boat around now, we're going full steam with the rudder stuck. There is an iceberg out there somewhere, so maybe the faster we ram it and sink this ship, the quicker we can get around to rebuilding.

I say we go to Syria, I want drone strikes every 5 minutes, 10,000 troops on the ground, not only sanctions and a trade embargo but an active blockade, hell let's just use chemical weapons on them.

While I don't agree with your opinion sir I will fight to the death for your right to say it. Of course we deserve criticism but so does every government around the world, there is no perfect one. I'm an American and choose to support my people. Do I think we've done some stupid shit of course we've done some blatantly stupid shit but we have also done some amazing life changing things to make the the world a better place not just ourselves. I'm not saying our elected officials or our government does the right thing all the time nor all of us individually. My point is I love America and our ideals. The kind my grandfathers fought for. the kinda shit that needs to be reinstalled in the future generations of our country. It seems we forgot a lot of those values but people like me are still grateful for the people who lived and died for that ideal. The beautiful thing is we all get to have our own opinions and express them which is one of the things I love about NG.com, no body has any problems stating their opinions, bluntly. It's something I hope we never lose that. If we feel there is something morally wrong with our Government's actions it's our duty to let our elected officials know. Otherwise we are all just spectators.

The US?
no

The UN?
yes

The US is not the world's police force. The whole world doesnt need to wait for the US to do something. Why doesnt China do something, or France, or Israel...

Because the other countries aren't stupid enough to spend their money on something with no returns.

I hope we get involved and lose massively after Russia sides with Assad. This will lead to World War III and eventually America being invaded by Russia at which time John Rambo comes out of retirement to clean up one more time.

The Syria Civil War cannot be ended by external forces; the solution has to come from within Syria with direct support of Arab countries. The west can provide technical support to free Syria forces and make sure those who get the training are not connected to extreme forces. Otherwise if USA get involved directly the Assad regime will use they present as propaganda to picture the war as west against Islamic country.

And if anyone actually stopped to notice, not even other Arab countries are willing to help or take part in any "serious" intervention. Why?

Because they know better!!

They're waiting for the dumb-dumbs of the US Government to come in and be the hero's of the world, or the waste-of-space phony UN to step in. Why should any of the Arab countries waste their precious oil money and the blood of their people, when the have the world police to do it for them.

Merikah!! Fuck Yeah!! Here to save the mutha-fuckin day YEAH!!

I would suggest that it has more to do with not trying to back a popular uprising against an autocratic regime. They certainly don't want the "Arab Spring" to flood into their backyard.

If things go on like that, an US involvement will only be a matter of time.

WMD, babies getting thrown out of incubators and good ol' poison gas... rings a bell, eh.

Pretty much sums it up.

Involvement will happen if there isn't an extremely strong pushback though. I read that there is something like 9% support for intervention in Syria right now — there are marketing firms whose job is to dial that up to 49% supports, so that media and talking heads can then trumpet "opinions are divided."

There are some arms manufacturers, and those whose livelihoods depend upon employment at arms manufacturers, that will also go along.

..and in what can only be described as a strange case of coincidence, this article comes out:

CIA Files Prove America Helped Saddam as He Gassed Iran
http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/08/25/secret_cia_files_prove_america_helped_saddam_as_he_gassed_iran

They've got links to the documents and it's pretty messed up. I suppose having a strong stance against Syria right now could help people forget about trifling little details from the past like this.

Or the fact that 3 yeas prior, we arranged shipments of arms to Iran (through Israel) in exchange for prisoner releases by Hezbollah and money for Death Squads in Central America.

Or that 3 years later, we were swapping Intel with Iran.

Russia has warned against any action against Syria and the President has cancelled a meeting with Putin about the Syrian civil war. That.....is not good.

^This.

Just hate it that the US is such a War/Power hungry country and so damn spendthrift and what do we get? Oil? Respect?

The US is just acting like the little kid down the street that just wants to get involved in everything everyone else does and forces everyone to do it their way or they're gonna send in their parents until they get their way.

Yeap the U.S public doesn't want any of this shit but as usual the government doesn't give a fuck about public opinion.

Iran is the real target... Just wait, soon as the US find their excuses and successfully remove the Syrian government, they'll start the propaganda campaign for an attack on Iran.

What do you think the US Government will blow this time?

Since World Trade Center is gone, I believe the Empire State is a good place for placing explosives and gathering the public attention.

Damn skippy!
Who's to say that the US hasn't had a hand in the Syrian Civil War to begin with, only to give them a legitimate excuse to intervene and then be on the war path to Iran?

whatever president Obama is playing at, it better not involve turning our back further at Israel.

Personally, I say fuck the entire Arab world and stop paying so much attention to it. That was what the 9-11 terrorists wanted after all.

If people glory in backwards looking extremism they should be treated like the idiot children they are and seated at the kid's table until they shut the fuck up and stop throwing rocks to get the adult's attention. Islam is not a religion of peace, unless you count the peace that would exist after they finished conquering the world for god.

The pure, ugly-sounding bottom line is that Arab culture is backwards and inferior compared to that of the modern west. Sorry, I know it sounds cruel, partial, what have you- but it's the way it is and has been for a long time.

I have said for more than 10 years that the Arab world should have been vetted with big shows of respect like you would show a wounded teenage dork with a massive inferiority complex. But since things are turning to shit, just ignore them. The actual threat of serious damage to the USA is minimal and has been since 9-11.

Lets get bokemeow in here so I can prep him for surgery, stat.

I'd rather we not be the first ones involved. Let the UN do something. It would be nice if the international community couldn't blame us for everything for once.

The UN is joke and a waste of space. The US needs to mind their own and stay the fuck away. Matter of fact, move out of the Middle East all together. Let the Russians (since they're against US involvement anyway), Arabs and Israel deal with Syria. It's not our fight, and never was, no matter what the US past spells out. Period!

I say we turn our back on every country out there, INCLUDING Israel. Let them fight their own battles.

You're preaching to the choir. Won't happen though. The US government will involve itself somehow. Then Europeans will act like Americans have some say in what our government does as they rip into us as a people. Business as usual.
