I'm about 3 hours in. I like it a lot so far but I hate how you can't really see what's happening when you and the AI characters all gang up on the bad guys and everything blends together.

Also, I'm confused as to how treasure rank is determined when you open a chest.

That's dissapointing about the Kraken. I kept trying trying that part over and over precisely because there is an extra area in lost woods if your boat doesn't break.

Do you know if there is an extra area if you survive the carpet ride over the lava? That one I find difficult as well, mostly because it's extremely hard for me to tell which plane the lava attacks are coming from.

I almost never lose in the flying carpets and you get nothing for those. You just keep your health or whatever.
A wizard using an ice staff makes those boat rides really easy though. His upward magic attack stays up for a few seconds and the fish, lizard men, or lava dies right after touching it. Actually, that attack is so good I managed to finish 3 levels after all my equipment broke. It's too bad his luck blows though.

DIE was the only one I hadn't figured out. Thanks. I think that tells me how to beat a certain quest. I knew of SOD (Sigil of Death) but I'm assuming DIE is instant KO for enemies?

DIE actually makes an s-rank treasure chest pop up every time I get it. Exactly like treasure hunters friend....no idea why.

Just beat the game on Normal with my 4-person local co-op crew tonight. Really epic. The thought of having to go through the entire game with each of the characters is sort of brutal.

Playing locally though, I have found out things about the save file that I'm not sure has been mentioned. Let's use my characters as an example.
I play as Laban, a dwarf. Let's say I play with my friend who uses Edie, a sorceress. We both start from the beginning of the game and we both get up to level 28. We have done story and side quests together and all is great within that realm.
If I decide to play as Edie the Sorceress, she starts from the very beginning of the game, needing to go to the adventurer's guild and doing the first dungeon again. She retains her level, her equipment, the money we shared, the side quests she had finished and the ones she was still working on.
It makes it faster to go through the game again to be so highly leveled and not having to do all the side quests again, but man. It would probably take a while, still.

Spoiler:

One advantage of this is when you open up the B routes after the Lost Woods. We both got the side quest to kill the Harpy solo, or to kill the vampires in 2 minutes or less. If I started the game with Edie after accepting those quests, I could complete the quest by killing the Harpy that is on Level 1, instead of having to kill it on Level 17. Plus I wouldn't have to use Stables to go around, I could just use the gate.

I know they'd never do it because he's a MALE character, but I would want one of the Dwarf and his flowing beard and gigantic hammer.

To unlock online multiplayer you need to beat all nine stages.

So it's based on story progression. I don't recall around what level that is at.

Make sure you take the common skill Deep Pockets when you can. You can get the first level fairly early but then can't choose it again until 30ish. Lets you carry an extra item.

Spam dodge, always get behind him for a couple of cheap shots....but get away before he slashes or strikes you. weapon slam as much as possible, then dodge all over the place until its safe to pick up again....

lather rinse repeat.

Pray to Althena for +1 lives, get your 3 toughest* CPU allies (if offline), get any items (like heal rings) that increase the longevity of your party, don't bother with magical scrolls.

*Make sure your allies are melee and highest level....preferably dwarves for their huge AOE weapon slams and big damage, maybe fighters for their aerial combos and high defence...definitely not Amazon...with no defence there is little to no possibility of comboing and unlocking her true strength, and the frail magic users....same deal.
