All the systems take forever to patch.
WiiU and PS3 can do some patching while in standby now.

close, lock, bury.

Your PS3 sucks man.

For me it's more like:

PS3 updates - takes 5 minutes (once every few months)
Netflix logs me in automatically because it saved my password the first time I ever entered it.

No way bro. I pretty much watch a movie on amazon instant video at least once or twice a week through my ps3 and it updates at least once every 2 weeks. I have the automatic update feature turned on and on top of all the shit it told me it updated when I turn it on it still asks to update the movie software and the firmware. My 360 updates like once a year.

MGS4 and Gran Turismo 5 were painful. There was only so much I could watch Snake smoke before I just had to walk away.

Grand theft auto IV was pretty bad too.

Does anyone else experience slow installs from the hd? I think It was Vanquish that took like 10-15 minutes to install. Could be because I was downloading other stuff while installing but still. The xbox downloads the game and its installed.

It's weird coming into a thread where people were talking about you 15 hours ago.

I watch netflix and amazon instant video on the ps3 every day (not exaggerating), so I know for a fact it doesn't update software or firmware once a week let alone twice. We all hate updates man, but come on ;)

No, not really. Not being dismissive. Just don't really care.

I am not a Platinum fanboy. I recognize they are a talented studio, but I don't hold them in the same high regard that others do. They're good. Sometimes they make shitty games. So their name alone isn't enough to get me to care about The Wonderful 101, and the game itself just doesn't look like my cup of tea.

Sonic has to prove it to me before I 'll get interested. Too many shitty Sonic games over the years and I'm feeling a little snakebit by the whole thing.

What about Pikmin 3?

(well I guess if W101 isn't your cup of tea, then Pikmin 3 probably won't be either...)

Just a follow-up post about The Wonderful 101.

I am excited for this game, but i don't think it will be amazing....I anticipate it will be something like an 8/10 for me, and here's why...

I fear that the game may rely too heavily on scripted events. Not QTE's, but events that are staged and can only be handled a certain way (use giant wonderful hand unite now!!!) etc etc.

I am afraid this game will not offer alot of the freedom that could be found in something like Pikmin 3....and that's ok. I still think the game will be enjoyable, but I don't think this will a perfect game by any means....

Exactly.

Hey, 'sage.

Why don't you and Dennis Rodman get together and find out what's on that N.K. boat being held in Panama? And talk to that capatin, okay? He shouldn't be trying to kill himself. Life is sacred.

I don´t know how Wii u handles the downloaded games but it can´t be much worse than PS3, can it?

I just was reminded why my PS3 has been gathering dust for the past couple of years.

I don´t get the exclusive access to my living room tv that often, certainly not to play any kind of game that is not suitable for my kids to view. So, if I get an hour of time when wife is out shopping with kids, that would be a great time for me to play. Problem is, I need at least 4 such occasions before I get to play a game. Here´s how it usually goes:

Most Usual scenario:

1) Now´s my time! I find whatever scary game on playstation network (playstation plus often has free games so why not) and start downloading. That´s it. It´s 6 gigabytes, its not going to be downloaded before wife and kids are back home

2) Month later, I have forgotten about it and find it on my hard drive as uninstalled... I delete it to make room for another game

Rare scenario where I get a bit further:

1) Now´s my time! I find whatever scary game on playstation network and start downloading. That´s it. It´s 6 gigabytes, its not going to be downloaded before wife and kids are back home

2) Month later, I have forgotten about it and find it on my hard drive as uninstalled... I start installing it. That´s it. It´s 6 gigabytes, its not going to be installed before wife and kids are back home

3) Another month later I just delete it to make room for another game as the hard drive is full of games I never had time to play.

Super ultra rare scenario where I get to actually play the game a bit

1) Now´s my time! I find whatever scary game on playstation network and start downloading. That´s it. It´s 6 gigabytes, its not going to be downloaded before wife and kids are back home

2) Month later, I have forgotten about it and find it on my hard drive as uninstalled... I start installing it. That´s it. It´s 6 gigabytes, its not going to be installed before wife and kids are back home

3) Another month later, I have again forgotten about it and find it on my hard drive as an installed game... I start trying to play it. Nope. it requires an update. That´s it, the update is pretty much as big as the initial install package. It´s not going to be ready before wife and kids are back home.

4) Another month later, I have again forgotten about it and find it on my hard drive as an installed and updated game... I start trying to play it. Nope. it requires ANOTHER update. This time though, it is smaller and takes only 10 minutes to download and update. I start trying to play it again. Of course the intro video takes another 15 fucking minutes and it can´t be skipped. I play 5 minutes of the first level of the game, it seems boring... wife and kids are back home... that´s it

That is why my ps3 is gathering dust. I much rather boot up my cab for a nice half an hour game of Shock Troopers or Blazing Star. They dont need installing, they dont need updating, they just boot up and fucking work.

I just unsubscribed from playstation plus. It´s wonderful service but I just dont find the time to play those "free" games.

PSN+ downloads game patches when system is off.

Stop being a bunch of cheap Chinese Jews.

I don't see why you need PSN+ for something that should just be standard.

Do I need to pay extra to shut the system off as well?

EDIT: I'm with the consensus, the PS3 sucks because of that updating bullshit. Couldn't turn the thing on without being annoyed by that.

Me and you are in the same boat my friend. Just do what I do, watch a movie or power on the old genny and play Streets of Rage 2 for the 6 billionth time.

Im going to stick with playstation plus hoping that maybe someday Ill have time to actually sit down and play a game for a few hours. Even if I get a chance to play when the wife and kid aren't home on a rainy day or something. Question is when will it be the next time I get to play this game again? Might be a week, month, 2 months, a year.

Psn+ gives you alot of free game rentals too if you have time to play them of course. I call them rentals because the minute you cancel the service your going to have to pay regular price for everything you downloaded for free.

With MGS 4, at least a new patch came out for a one time install for the entire game now at around 13GB (plus Trophies were added if that is your thing).

I usually watch movies or TV while downloading a free PS+ game, or I just do it overnight and set the system to auto-shutdown when it is done. Not really a problem. As for the firmware update, it has gotten less frequent lately. Game patch updates vary, but most of them I get lately are no more than 65-120MB and are done 15-30 minutes depending on the time of the day/night.

Some games were ridiculous, like Heavy Rain adding PS Move support along with updating fixes and then the install. Even Uncharted 2 had a big update for campaign and a bigger update for the multiplayer when I bought it a year after it was released. Like I said it varies... but lately the newer exclusive releases seem to have gotten better about it.

Wii outsells WiiU over last three months.

Guys, it's ok that nobody gives a flying fuck about the WiiU and that it's probably already a dead system. The 3DS is kicking ass! Nintendo is still successful! I can sleep comfortably at night! Fuck the haterz! Sony and Microsoft got nuthin'!

I care about the Wii U...alot...

Also, I have a feeling that these sales numbers will drastically turn around once New Super Luigi is released in August.

It's like New Super Mario Bros U....but it's with LUIGI.

The 2-headed avalanche is coming through sometime in November and the Wii-U looks like it'll be buried long before then.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2013/130731e.pdf

With respect to “Wii U,” “New Super Luigi U,” which is add-on content for “New Super Mario Bros. U” released
simultaneously with the “Wii U” hardware last year, was released, and “Game & Wario,” released in Japan in March,
was released overseas. The worldwide sales of “Wii U” hardware and software were 0.16 million units and 1.03 million
units respectively mainly due to the release of few key first-party titles this quarter to strongly drive the hardware sales.
Regarding “Nintendo DS” (DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL), the worldwide sales of its hardware and software were 0.06
million units and 2.15 million units respectively. Also, the sales of the “Wii” hardware and software were 0.21 million
units and 3.67 million units respectively worldwide.

That breaks down to:
90k from Japan
60k from North America
10k from Other

Only 1 word to describe that: Atrocious. It's approaching Ouya launch number territory there.

I hope you're being ironic when you say you think Luigi will 'drastically' turn the numbers around.

It won't. You probably won't even see much of a jump in system sales.

Nobody cares but the Nintendo diehards. And they've mostly already adopted the hardware.

hmm, not so much "ironic", more "cheeky"...

I've noticed an improvement since the last few patches on the Wii-U but still downloading sucks just like with the PS3. I like it with the 360 whatever you download is installed and ready after it hits 100% with the U and PS3 you gotta wait twice.

It's sad with the Wii U that I've used it more in this past month to play Earthbound then used it ever. I'd download one of the 30 cent games for the promotion, but other then that it stays off. I'm getting ready for a 3DSXL. I heard they just announced a black version for the US, but I'm going to hold out for Black Friday in November. Because of two things. A price drop or an XL bundle with the new Zelda. If they don't I'll just pick a color I like and get a Circle Pad Pro off Amazon (Cheaper then Nintendo's official site) and be done with it.

I really want to like the system but I can't get into it, it's been collecting dust and the last time I even turned it on was in February. The new Smash brothers looks promising thought.
