It's back. Re-Link
Update, 6:38 PM

I’ve just receive word from Nintendo that the Evo Smash Bros. Melee stream will be allowed to proceed. We will be restoring the original stream and tournament schedules. Obviously this is a huge relive for all of us here and we’re thrilled that the world will get to see the best Smash players fight it out this weekend. Thanks to everyone online who supported both Evo and Smash, and thanks to Nintendo for allowing us to stream their game.

Here are the restored schedules with Smash in its rightful place.

Had to wait forever for that page to load. Must've been hit hard.

EDIT:
Well, shoot. I'm a day late and a dollar short. Could've sworn I hadn't seen the update about it being back before I posted.

Fucking retarded. What is with companies making dumb-ass I'll-informed decisions lately, and then flip-flopping once their audience responds negatively? I mean I guess it's good they are listening to people....but how about not making shitty decisions from the get-go?

First rule of business is know your audience. If I pulled this kind of nonsense at my work I'd be bitch-slapped our of my chair.

This is exactly why I'll be giving this next generation a wide berth. I'll wait and see what happens from a distance, pretty much like I did this gen (bought a console in '09) and if I want one, I'll get one.

Nintendo and MS have done less than zero to impress me so far with their ideas and concepts for this gen so I guess that leaves the ball in Sony's court. Therefore, that means we're not out of the woods yet.

Also, just realised that the thread is 'Melee', not 'Brawl'. Is that correct? That tournament players are still playing GC Melee > Wii Brawl?...

As much as i think that smash is a joke... obviously Nintendos customer relations are an even bigger joke. What a dumb move by Nintendo. Helps me understand more why the company is on its way out.

I'm going to record videos of your life and sell them, and not pay you anything.
would you allow me to do that?

RedvBlue made a lot of money using Halo. That's not their IP. Luckly M$ and Bungie collaborated and understood the benefits to having RvB.

A lot of publishers have started to be more strict about this stuff on Youtube, etc. It's shitty but slightly understandable.

THe criticism for Nintendo is because of how RvB benefitted everyone. Or, more accurately, the precedent it set.

Nintendo should be better at analyzing the market and understanding how valuable consumer synergy is.

They exhibited smart marketing response with the OpRa games. Why, then, turn around and shit the bed all over again with the Smash Brothers decision?

It clearly shows that this is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand's doing at Nintendo. The company is really big, and this betrays factionalism and a lack of internal information exchange within the various international branches. Iwata is a horrible president.

So glad someone saw the light and reversed this fucking stupid decision at Nintendo. Right now, at this moment, consumer response to electronic entertainment is at an all time high. Companies that don't recognize that see their directors move to other companies or simply resign.

While I think its obviously in Nintendo's best interest to allow the stream. The Evo watcher in me would much rather watch KOF '13 than SSB matches. SSB has strategy but isn't exactly deep or require flawless execution.

And this is exactly how I feel.

Nintendo is right to allow the stream but really...who fucking cares?

It's goddamned EVO. There are MUCH better things to watch than SSB streams.

The whole thing seems silly to me. Even more so with that youtube crap. Wanting to be paid for someone watching someone else playing a video game. Oh.. someone saw you play our game.. we need some cash, even though they didn't have the experience of playing it themselves.

The future is shaping up to suck. Pretty soon none of my books will able to be read after 24 hours if I don't check in with the publisher. If someone sees what I'm playing on my hand held I'll have cash removed from my bank account. If I talk about a movie I watched, I'll anyone who listens me will have pay because they some how experienced the movie. Natrually I'm being silly, but the point remains.

I hope some day people wake up at these companies and say, "Fuck the pirates, they'll never be out customers. Lets make shit so good for the honest person that they'll want to line up to buy our stuff, build and grow a customer base of brand loyalty. Lets Treat them the way we ourselves would want to be treated. There are always going to be crooks steaing from us. Sure we can go after them but lets not screw over the consumer in the process."

You aren't being charged to watch Evo.

Nintendo also sued Blockbuster over game rentals in the 90s. Long history of stupid moves from them.

Seriously. They won that lawsuit over King Kong/Donkey Kong and suddenly turned into big assholes for a long time. Or maybe they never changed after that point and whatever good will they've established has been fought for behind the scenes tooth and nail. Has there ever been a major fan base shat on as much by the IP holders as Nintendo fans? They are some of the worst offendors of Stockholm Syndrome since the term was coined.

This is just another example of some powerful suit trying to find a new way to generate capital without really being in touch with anything or anybody outside the walls of their office.

Blizzard tried doing this shit in Korea regarding TV matches of it's starcraft/Warcraft games.

They created their own league, and tried to ban the established league (the one that started the Starcraft TV craze) from telecasting matches.

IIRC: it blew up in their face

The big story for me was that people play SSB in some serious fashion.

It was really bad at my college of nerds. They were the players who knew every frame of animation and how long it took. Shockingly they did piss poor in the classes because from sun up to sun down it was SSBM.

I used to just chill out when my friends played smash bros. I couldn't stand it. Shit got real once they threw in Mario Tennis though.

I think everybody's got "that friend" when it comes to this game. It was great when Melle came out. My friends all got together, got some snacks and drinks and played it so we could unlock all the characters in one night and traded the save data. Then when Brawl came out my one friend got too into everything and then everything turned into shit. He gave us a half an hour lecture on why we couldn't use Snake and Metaknight and he also had to go over what a "tilt smash" was. Then he got REALLY pissed when he found out my other friend used the C-Stick to attack and that almost broke out into a fist fight.

Nintendo is the poster company for draconian rights control. They've been a shitty company for almost as long as consoles have existed, except now they also make terrible hardware and rehash franchise updates. When one of the selling points of your new console is that you can rebuy all your old games and play them on the current-gen system..

Here's something cute I saw today about their new game coming out:

CG cutscenes won't be included in either the Wii U or 3DS versions of the game.

Creator Masahiro Sakurai wrote in his column on Famitsu that because the Super Smash Bros. Brawl cutscenes ended up being uploaded to the Internet, they wouldn't be included in the newest iteration. "You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I've decided against having them," Sakurai commented.

That was the reason why I bumped the thread. Nintendo's gotta put a stop to all of those evil Let's Players on YouTube...
