Really want to hook my Dreamcast up to my monitor but need to get a VGA box. I'm not sure how much these things normally go for, I looked around eBay and the prices just seemed really high and was hoping I could find a deal on here.

As nice as the Hanzo is I'm not looking for one very fancy, just a cheap one will do me fine as long as it works.

Heh... thanks for reminding me I'm still waiting for my Hanzo. Looks like it shipped about a week ago so any day now.

In all honesty Pope, it's not that fancy (price wise) to what you typically see places like this. http://www.racketboy.com/store/sega-dreamcast/dreamcast-vga-cable-box.html

His Kuro is quite a bit cheaper without all the scanline fanciness though. Nice to support a homegrown project as well.

Well if the average price is around that I will have to get someone from here that is also on assembler to do the order for me since I'm not on that forum.

Yeah I have seen those Hanzo ones as well. Very nice work. Though honestly I am looking to build my own just for fun, if anyone knows of a decent guide with some good pictures let me know.

thx for all the info here guys, the hanzo and scanliner sound sweet. I'm currently using the racketboy cable that teddy linked up there, I've had it a little more than a year, it works great and I've used it inside my blast city as well. I got lucky finding it on ebay for about 20 shipped, and now 50ish seems to be the norm for dreamcast vga :oh_no: My only complaint about the racketboy cable is the build quality, the thing just feels like it's gonna fall apart at any time. gotta admit I'm very interested in these newly mentioned products.

I am also a member of this forum. You can order Hanzo or Kuro by PM. Thanks for your interest.

Hanzo is $55 including airmail shipping and paypal fees
Kuro is $45 including airmail shipping and paypal fees

Kuro is a regular DC VGA box with 15/31KHZ mode select and RCA Audio jacks.

Hanzo has a builtin scanliner with even/odd scanline select, width select, scanlines on/off switches.

2D Games designed for 240p do a basic line doubling and look like crap on a VGA box, the scanlines remedy this. You wouldn't want to use it with 3D stuff.

I'm interested in picking up a Hanzo too. I just received Sturmwind, which has inspired me to replay some of my old DC games again.
Beharius, sent you a PM.

How is the build quality on the Hanzo?

I have a VGA box similar to this : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/Dreamcast_VGA_box.jpg
And the thing died. :(

Build quality seems decent, at least better than the mass produced VGA boxes sold on RacketBoy. You can see a pic of mine HERE. I can take more detailed pics of it if you need, but it survived snail mails trip from Turkey in a small padded envelope.

I just received my Hanzo VGA adapter. It works great! I highly recommend it! Thanks Beharius!
The VGA picture quality is far superior compared to my Dreamcast's s-video output going through my XRGB Mini Framemeister.
