Hi i have a 1 slot mvs with garbled video
I cleaned the pins and cart slots really good so i already discarded that possibility..
am still on the process of finding broken traces from the graphics chips with no luck!
I have a feeling that is the ram wich i want to check first because so far it seem that the graphs chips are ok

so my real question is is there a way to see if ram is working with a multimeter ?

thank you guys in advance

Do you ever get a crosshatch without a game, or see/hear the game with a cart loaded? If not, the MVS probably has the click of death. Check traces between 68k, BIOS and work RAM. There are instructions in other threads. Try my "MV-1 click of death" thread, look at my recent threads.

Well I guess that's technically better than the click of death. If you have a horizontal loader, I recommend checking continuity between the main board and the riser board with the cart slot on it. Those white connectors can get dirty inside, or break, or simply lose their strength over time.

Thanks Heavy'
am in the process of checking continuity ...
(i really cleaned the slot and board really good to discard the possibility of board and slots being dirty i have "Fixed" boards like that before i know sometimes dirt is the culprit but maybe in this case a pin broke dont know )

P.S. Today i also discarded the possibility of the bios being the problem too since i swap the one on my 4 slot..

To get anywehre: Turn off the 'skip hw test' in the unibios. Tell us the exact ram error you get on screen. We can move from there, now we don't know what exactly is broken..

I think the options menu is ABC held down when you turn on the MVS. Could be ABCD. Turn off the HW test skip, then reboot the board. It will tell you the exact error. Then we can tell which chips need replacing. :)

Is the cart slot portion of the board connected well to the bottom half? Is it possible some crap got into those pins and you can just disconnect it and check? It could be a wire clipping or something that is causing improper continuity and the issue, or a lack of strong connection between the top and bottom portion.

I'm guessing this is a side loading board. Could be a bad riser card since the problem affects fixed layer and also has C rom addressing problems.

We need him to turn of the skipping of the HW test and know if there are errors reported.. bad video ram can do a lot of things. :)

thanks for your reply
well when i turn the thing on i cant really see
any text is just too scramble to know what the screen text says .
ill try and see if i get it to display the error or
if that error is going to be readable ! yeah is that bad..!
as for the continuity from the board man so many pins almost done but i still dont see any
continuity failure from the slot to the board

i should take some pictures of the board

thanks again

Well the continuity from the slot to the board are ok...
i still need to do the test Asure asked me to do
ill do it right away i just wanted to shared some pictures of the board

am curious because am not sure if those jumper cables in the circuit board are doing anything useful . someone with same board are those really necessary? i dont see any corrosion of bad trace

well..
