Martial Champion...the quickie of Fighting games...

2 specials per chara, no supers, and the dumbest ShengLong you've ever stood a chance against.

It's like rubbing one out.

And I love it.

I have three of these boards working, not to play but to use for parts when needed. Saved a mystic warriors with a forth one. Martial Champion is just terrible and the only reason most remember it is because of Rachael.

Still remembers playing it in the arcades. Just another SFII clone.

Except it was such a pathetic laughable attempt it was not even worthy enough to be sued over infringements like the better clones were.

SF ripoff?! Not hardly. W/the high/mid/low 3 button scheme, this game is Yie Ar HyperfightingX!

I love Martial Champion. I used to play it at a store as a kid. Taking off the rose colored goggles..it's clear that it's not a very good game.

Breakers (one of my favorite fighters) has always subconsciously reminded me of Martial Champion. I've once described it has Visco doing Martial Champion meets Street Fighter Alpha.

This year I bought the ROUGH PC Engine port for the hell of it. Nice artwork at least...right? Right?

Anyways, just calling it another SFII rip off is ignorant obviously. As far as combos go, I've never been able to do too much. There isn't a lot of hit stun between attacks. I'd certainly love to learn some new stuff.

Seeing Martial Champion again just reminded me of Karnov's Revenge.

It is nice to see Aska/Asuka in TMNT Tournament Fighters be a homage to Rachel. Heck she even does a mai victory pose in the JP version, breast jiggling included.

I remembered I made a Mugen Mega Mix of old school fighters, it was awesome!!! Good times with Martial Champions when I was a kid, it was next to a World Heroes and SFII, it gave me so many good times I couldn't even begin to count.

I mean good god, she almost makes Chun's thighs look normal size. So silly.

Seriously though, Martial Champion is a terrible game. I know people have memories of playing it when the arcades became glutted with fighting games wanting to be the next Street Fighter II, but it wasn't a good game then and it's even less playable now. There's no two-in-ones, no combos, just a bizarre poking game where sometimes moves knock down and sometimes they don't. And then there's the throw system. Throws in that game are insanely good, they have good range and I think you can throw someone while they're still in blockstun (!!!). This is countered out by the fact that when you throw someone, there's a period of time (like 7-8 seconds or so) where you're not allowed to throw again. So it's like, you have to play keepaway until the game decides you can do another throw. It's just a bizarre system.

So yeah, shit game. Dat Racheal though....
