Oh don't get me wrong! I absolutely love tate games. There's just something about this one...I dunno, can't really put me finger on it, but it's just not 'right' to me. I'll play it, and I'll do my best (however crappy that may be) at it, but it's definitely not my fave of the 3 is all.

It's for sure the oldest & most rudimentary of the 3...and that can put some folks off. As far as scoring, the key is to collect all the RDF symbol medals in succession as they appear, without taking damage (like the Sols in Raiden IV) and grabbing Minmay dolls that randomly appear for 50k a pop!
There will be half a dozen of us playing this @ BIGTIME'S today, so watch this space for screen shots, tips, & tidbits.

That's not the problem, I have a PCB cap of 110. If I get Macross I have to let something else go

Gave Macross a try. Really seems to heat up at stage 4, with lots of kamikaze enemies and crazy stuff. And tons of medals, wow I could see that being a huge scoring stage once you get it down.

Ok initial attempt:
Opt2not - 1079900 - 5 - PCB
I definitely like the Fighter shot (spread) the best. Helps with those areas that have more of the kamikaze guys flying at you.
Boss patterns are initially easy to figure out but I didn't get too far. I'll keep at it though.

Here is an example of the 'medals' I referenced earlier, when collected in succession net you 1000s of additional points.
When the 1st boss shows up, shoot like crazy on the left side of the screen to get the 1st Minmay Doll to appear. (50k points)!

Off the top of my head, there's a mimay doll hidden in the background on the right side of the screen (keep shooting or bomb to uncover it) in Stage 3 when the two long laser-shooting ships descend. And another in Stage 4 again on the right side of the screen in the water section of the stage. Very soon after you fly over the water section of Stage 4 there's another hidden item, this time a Fish Head, in the background (again, keep shooting to uncover it) also on the right side. - if anyone happens upon others, please post in this thread!

Medals chain and eventually cap at 10k each and will stay this way until a death, where they then will reset. Therefore, a 1LC is really the only way to net a decent score 
In true NMK fashion, milk everything for points. Grab the Fighter (spread shot) and mow down all the asteroids in sight in the space stages.
Don't allow yourself to be lulled after the first three stages. The game picks up once it hits Stage 4.
The Arsenal power-up (black canister with red stripes) gives you a best-of-both-worlds laser/spread shot. It also acts as a shield, but they do not accumulate (picking up an arsenal power-up while already in arsenal-mode still only yields 1 shield.) When you are in arsenal-mode, grab everything in sight because it doesn't change your shot, but it does give you lots of points
