I've been messing around with the game. Here is what I gathered from the gameplay:

Most regular chains won't normally connect together. For example, with Kasumi's [P][P][P][P][P] chain, only the first 2 [P]'s connect, and the opponent can block the rest.

Then, you have certain attacks that have "Stun" effect. Examples would be Kasumi's down forward [K] + [G] attack, or the last attack in her [K] [K] forward [K] chain (these 3 connect btw).

While the opponent is in "Stun" state, you can connect any chain you want. Using the examples above, you can do the following combos with Kasumi:

down forward [K] + [G] --> [P][P][P][P][P]

or

[K] [K] forward [K] --> [P][P][P][P][P]

HOWEVER, the opponent can still use counters during stun state (referred to as "holds" in the game).

I may have mentioned that holds timings have been made easier, but for mid attacks holds, you now have back [G] for mid punches, and forward [G] for mid kicks. So basically, you have to guess one of four possibilities now: high attacks, mid punches, mid kicks, low attacks. Each of these have different holds.

So the stun works almost similarly to juggling, except that the opponent can use holds in the middle. There are also some attacks that juggle the opponent as well.

Additionally, you can grab crouching opponents (ideal after blocking a low attack).

PS: The game received 7.5 from GameSpot

I really need to play this some more. Though I'm thinking of getting it for 360 and selling it for PS3 as no one is really on there anymore.

You need to understand the Critical Burst mechanics to appreciate it. Too bad it's poorly explained in the game's story mode tutorial.

Simply put, each character has a a move marked as "Critical Burst" in his / her moves list. Repeated Stun combos will eventually make the "Critical Stun" word turns red on the screen. At this point, if you use your character's "Critical Burst" move, the opponent will enter a shock state where he / she:

- Remains grounded and valenrable to another full combo
- Can't counter anymore
- Stay longer in the air when juggled

This, however, would make you more predictable for counters, so you would need to find different combos that lead to the red critical stun state.

Sweet! Momiji is awesome in NG, so this should be a lot of fun!

So, I find it funny that I started this thread, sharply critical of this idea, but I am happy to admit I was wrong. I played this and was actually REALLY impressed by how much respect the VF character designs were treated with. They look amazing in this engine.

I've been playing the game regulary since release. I gotta honestly say the gameplay turned out to be more balanced than I expected. Too bad it's being overlooked by most serious players for obvious reasons. The online is great too.

I believe they should seriously start adding more male characters to change that image. As much as I like Mila, I think they should have added a male character instead. Lau should have been there instead of Pai. I don't mind Momiji though.

Anyone with a good connection that would like to try few matches with me, please add me on PSN: "Alucard-XII". Kokoro is main, Kasumi is secodary.

Thinking more about it, I really like the Momiji add because ever since Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox and the appearances of Ayane, the two universes of NG and DOA have become smaller parts of a larger whole and I like seeing that kind of synergy between connected IPs.

It's the same feeling I used to get when I'd pick up an issue of The Avengers or Justice League, see some new members on the team that I recognize from their solo books or see them facing a familiar villain from another series. It's nice to see the devs recognize the continuity they've established.

I think releasing a new version of the game or making her $DLC would be huge mistakes. This should be a freebie if it's only one character. If they add more characters, and I don't know who they'd add at this point, I might have to revise my feelings.

The comments section mentions Leon's voice being in the video, and I hope that having the NG2 background in the video means it will be included as well.

I still stand by my comment in this thread. I'd love to see Team Ninja and AM2 let their powers combine and make a real DOA X Virtua Fighter game. I heard nothing but good things about how the characters from VF were handled well in DOA and I'd love to see AM2's take on some DOA characters. I'd much rather see one from both TN and AM2 then Street Fighter X Tekken.

I totally forgot about the Tekken X Street Fighter game Namco's supposed to be doing. I wonder if they, or anybody else, really cares anymore.

Confirmed to be an enhanced version (DOA5 Ultimate) rather than DLC releases:

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/0...tm_campaign=Feed:+siliconera/MkOc+(Siliconera)

I wonder if it would still have the VF characters included.

Cool, but kinda disappointed. Wish the extra characters could be (reasonably priced) dlc. Depending on extras are included on the disc, i may or may not pick this up...

I've already bought a ton of DLC for DOA5...those swimsuits ain't cheap!

A versus game would be awesome.

Hope this is reasonably priced.

And just when I was about to pick up DOA 5, here comes Ultimate. If they're smart, DOA5U will come out at a $30 price point like SSF4 AE did.

I wasn't pleased with the inclusion of Leon and Ein. I prefer to keep the roster fresh and different in terms of gameplay. Not a fan of alter ego's or characters with similar move sets (one of the issues that is killing Tekken for me). But after watching the video, Ein seems different enough from Hitomi for me. I hope Leon is the same compared to Bayman. The new background seems nice.

I guess you must have gotten Tecmo KOEI's attention, because they just announced there will be a "Core Version" released online for PS3...for FREE.

The free version will will include access to the game's entire online mode, and will also have access to the offline mode aside from the story mode. The free version will include four characters: Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate, and Ryu Hayabusa. Other characters can be purchased separately for US$3.99 each, and the story mode can also be purchased separately for US$14.99. The free version will also include all four characters' costumes aside from the DLC costumes. Additionally, the free version will allow users to fight online against those who have purchased the package version of the game. Tecmo KOEI Games noted that right now the free version is only available for the PS3, but to check back for updates about a possible free version for the Xbox 360.
