I remember my father playing Mario and Gradius with us, he as also quite into SFII on the SNES, I have fond memories of us playing endless vs. matches at our summer place. (His main is Guile) He also played a lot of Civ II, nowadays his interest in games has waned.

*ninja*

My mother only plays Tetris, I remember showing her Quake, and she told me that just looking at it made her seasick :D

My dad never got into video games. He had 1 VCS game that he played, but obviously that was back in the 80's. I've gotten my mom to play games in the past like Tetris and Dr. Mario... eventually my brother gave my mom a Gameboy Color and she played Uno a lot. Even now my own daughter could care less about video games despite my attempts at getting her interested, she likes to watch me play games, but she does not enjoy playing them. Honestly... I'm glad because she is a great student and I'd rather her be good at school than Super Mario Bros or Street Fighter.

The last time I tried to play a video game with my dad was when Mortal Kombat 2 came out for the Super Nintendo. I handed him the controller and he asked "Which button do I press?" I replied, "All of them." He got confused and went away. LOL, I swear that was the last time he tried to play a video game. What a world...

Its a good thing you both had fun, since ultimately this is what gaming should be about, a fact often overlooked on some of the newer games for the current batch of next-gen consoles - fancy graphics but rather unrewarding gameplay.

The great thing I find about Neo Geo is that the vast majority of games enable for 2 players simultaneously - sports games, fighters (be it vs or cooperative mode), shooters etc. and that the games themselves offer instant pick-up-and-play appeal - no need to first study a big instruction manual or play through for 1-2h of basic training where you are first learning the controls before the real action unfolds.

My Dad had no interest in gaming and considered games consoles an irritation ("Can you stop it with those repetitive beeping noises"!). However back in the late 80's my mum bought me the "Snoopy Tennis" Game & Watch LCD game for when we went on holiday camping in France. On a long overnight train journey I got him to have a go and he ended up getting seriously addicted trying to beat his best score. I remember my mum telling him to give it back to me as he'd hogged it for so long. Good memories. Sadily he passed away in 2005.
