I'm sorry to hear about your Windy troubles my friend. Mine has been working fine. I have not had it running all day or anything, but it has always fired up and performed with no problems.

I am really not too tech savvy and initially I thought it was something to do with your PSU. The controls working in test, but not in game has me real confused. I'm not sure if Fox1 still has the i/o control board from his part out still, but it might be worth trying a different board.

Is all the wiring hooked up? I know that is pretty basic, but there is quite a bit of it inside a Windy II and it is pretty easy to forget something if you were working around on the inside. Sorry I can't be of much help, I hope your Windy II makes a fast recovery.

Thanks, brother.

I'm really grasping @ straws now...I've tried two different controller I/Os, and as I type this, 300wins is testing my JVS/JAMMA adapter on his own cabs...and getting the same weird results.

It's the intermittentness of everything that is confounding...one day fine, the next non-fnxnal-w/ no extraneous circumstances placed on the cab.

Whether I try to run it as JAMMA only, JVS only, or hybrid-it never works more than one session of gaming consistently.

I'm blooooooooooballlllllllllled by this Windy girl, lol.

Glad to hear yours is a-ok...that was the top priority for the group buy-that the people who trusted us, were satisfied.

If there was a lemon to be got, I'm glad I cought it. ^_^

MAJOR UPDATE!

1) my cab is *not* a lemon. ^_^ thanks to getting the USB leads back up to spec, and reseating EVERYTHING from soup to nuts...(fluorescent bulb leads, starter, all cabling...to & from controller I/O, coin, etc) and insuring my jumpers were set correctly...

The cab plays JVS (Naomi) w/ out a hitch everyday, for hours at a time...for over a week!

2) the major POF (Point Of Failure) appears to be the Namco JVS/JAMMA adapter. As shown here: http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22882&p=315684#p315684

300w and I aren't the only ones going through this.

Not just in Windy IIs...many folks using many types of cabs, are going through the exact same thing: one day, out of the blue-no more JAMMA controls.

LV and I have talked, and we have a theory...but I won't expound/speculate further on it, until he finishes his tests on my adapter. If our theory is proven...we may have a sure fix, to bring these adapters back to life! Watch this space!

I make absolutely no promises but I will take a look at what's happening. The one of rogers I have looks like the USB runs through a few resistors, then into an IC.. the IC may be the point of failure.

And the plot thickens...
from Rick @ AO:
****
I solved my problems using a Konami adapter instead of Namco's.
Also I found that Namco's one blurres the video if using 31 KHz where the Konami's just works like a charm.
I have a particular setup with separate power supplies (see picture) and discovered that the cabinet has to be powered up
before the adapter, or controls will not work (or only seldom work) on the Konami's as well.
Apparently this JVS bus negotiates addresses at power-up only and the timing is very important.
****

I'm going to try powering up the cab, *then* plugging in my adapter, and report back!

*x fingers*

I just tried powering up separately...no dice.

I'll be shipping my board out to LV today, sigh.

I'm serving up Local Motion noodles for lunch! Spamming the ish outta my own thread.

It's ok tho...this thread has been hella quiet up until about a day ago.

Is your cab missing locks? If so, these are an inexpensive alternative to OEM.

22mm Solid Cam Lock With Keys [SP-L322] $ 4.60 each from excellent.

Don't make my mistake and order 5 tho...3 will do ya. The Windy II locking tangs for the two CP locks WILL NOT FIT on these cams. Supplied tangs don't catch the CP latch.

Also, you have to use the funky included spacer to make these work on your PCB bay door, and coin box door.

For less than 5usd a pop-including keys-I'm not complaining tho.

After hearing many necking horror stories I had held off on rotating. Hankering for some proper STG action, I finally faced my fears-and tated the monitor.

Y'know, it really wasn't bad at all. I can totally see *exactly* where others went wrong, so I prepared. There is a little 3/4s of a shroud, that surrounds the neck (it's attached to the access plate on the back).

Moving the neck N, E, or W could easily bump the shroud=disaster. I got around this by removing the back panel during the rotation. The handles on the monitor frame made it hella easy; w/ the panel gone there was nothing for the neck to bump into.

Nice cabs

Why did I think you had 1? Did you at one time?

Anywho, yeah-I love mine now that it is finally working. Wouldn't mind a stable of NEOs like you have, Sensei. ;^) I played a U25 @ BIGTIMES's, and it has the nicest monitor I've ever seen.

No windy. Down to only 4 neo cabs now. Let a few go this past year

Congrats on the tate Wataru! Looks beautiful!

The Windy tate process can be pretty nerve wracking. At least I thought it was prior to actually doing it. The horror stories of necking the monitor made me extra cautious. I had a friend for support in case things went awry, but nothing ever did. I still would not oppose a better monitor frame or a rotate mechanism, but my guess is the world wouldn't be ready for such a flawless cab. :)

Thanks, WW!

It was pretty harrowing, but so glad I pulled it off...totally worth it.

I second your sentiment, re: Windy Flawless Edition. ^_^

Along w/ your rotate suggestion- I would add Blast sized speakers/grills, and a FrancoB NNC/NU style JAMMA/JVS loom (if one made to Windy II spec ever becomes available).

All in all, I couldn't be happier w/ this cab. If you only have room for one cab...this is the one. Most bang for your buck versatility & space wise.

Now if we could only figure out why Asura Buster doesn't have sound. We know it works perfectly in 2 other cabs. And it doesn't need -5v. What the hell can it be? Some specific voltage? Ah Windy 2, how mysterious you are...

It will be interesting to try w/ a Namco adapter...I wonder if it needs that 2nd power lead? 12v?

I switched the mono jumper on the Konami adapter, and cranked the gains up on the Asura board, and Windy2 amp.

*you could faintly hear sfx*

Maybe I'll try daisy-chaining in some powered PC speakers, to see what's what.

We can try with my Namco adapter. Of course it doesn't have picture, but at least we'll know if we can get sound or not.

I need the instruction space art for a project.

Does anyone have an extra one? Or an art file?

Someone on AO was giving away an instruction space for free...if you are a Windy owner.

I'm on my phone right now, & not signed in to AO, so I can't link it.

Good luck!

noobs! j/k

Been rockin' my Windy 1 since 2001 a-la Arcade Infinity. One of my very first jap cabs.

New sticks/buttons. Haven't put on the marquee display since I've moved to my current place though.

Found the manual for the cab a few months ago in storage.

Ok dudes its time I posted in this thread as there are a few things my windy needs. So loegan43 actually bought this cab, it was from another neo member who I believe had passed away many years ago, I dont really remember the details other than loegan43 got it for a pretty good price with a pile of nice pcb's. It came locked with no keys. loegan let it sit in his garage for 6 months or so and I started harassing him about never getting around to drilling out the locks or testing it out and he just offered it to me. I made him a nice high offer at the time and took it home. This is the second cab I completely disassembled down to the last bolt cleaned and reassembled. Instantly I fell in love the the design of the construction, after all these years it is still one of my favorite cabs to work on.

So move on a few years I sold this to a very close friend who was looking for a cab. I believe i wanted the money to grab another Egret 2. I always regretted selling the cab and that friend would often shove it in my face. So earlier this year I moved across the country, loaded up all my possessions in a 8x16 trailer and drove from Cali to Kentucky. As I started loading the cabs I planned on bringing here with me onto the trailer my friend who owned this cab said "man before you go would you like to buy your windy back?" I jumped at the chance, took it with me and really feel content with it back in the lineup.

The OG paint on it is in really nice condition other then the typical windy yellowing in a few spots. The original chassis had a cracked neck board which I have heard is common to these cabs. Anyway I put rebuilt MS9 in there. The tube was scuffed very badly so this cab has the anti glare coating polished off with the tube polished out, I dont regret it at all, never noticed it being a problem and would do it again to a tube in the same condition. This cab came without the marquee and it took a journey of 3 years and 3 marquee purchases to get the one you see now. Pro tip on these marquees by the way. Never touch them with alcohol to clean them, they will crack up and fall apart... This panel setup is temporary, I still have the original one too.

So Ive had the cab back about 6 months and am just now contemplating what it needs. First it needs cp locks and tangs, which I may just own, I have a big bag of original cp tangs and mechs I just cant remember what the setup looks like I probably disassembled it 5 years ago when I first owned the cab. Can someone here post some detailed pics of their cp lock mechanisms for me please?

The other thing it needs is a volume knob/potentiometer. I know some windys came with this and some did not. Im hoping someone out there with the stock audio potentiometer setup can take me a nice pic of how its mounted in the cab? Ive added them to cabs before but want to see the stock setup.

Thanks guys!
