After I got done playing it, it was my favorite FF game except for IV.
IV is god like to me. It was the first Final Fantasy game I had played after coming off of Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. The game really set the tone for what an RPG, ANY RPG, could do with an outstanding visual and audio presentation for the time.

Agreed. Just an awful game. If they're going to remake this, they need to change everything. Maybe add in Cloud and Kefka, and make it a fighter. It'd be way better than that trash we got in the late 90s.
I enjoyed the game overall, but it has a LOT of flaws. The lack of character development for anyone that isn't Squall or Rinoa is one of my major pet peeves about FFVIII. I didn't mind the drawing system, though yes, it did get tedious, as did the card game. Hopefully they'll look into giving FFVI and IX more attention.

This is one of the things I loved about it.
It was about two characters.
It wasn't what FF fans expected, but I was cool with it.
I loved the idea that Squall was unlikeable at the start of the game, and for a lot of people unlikeable at the end. But I had no issues with the narrative, the characters or the game.
Not mature enough, though. I guess I was just a fan.
