Oh, and minor detail. From your chat with him I saw you mentioned that once a package comes stateside, it'll get a new USPS tracking number assigned to it. That doesn't happen, or at least with overseas purchases that I've received from Italy, Germany, Spain etc. etc.

Actually it does, at least it did with the packages I've sent to two members here last month. The DHL tracking only was good till it left Germany (till !The shipment will be transported to the destination country and, from there, handed over to the delivery organization. (Homepage / online shipment tracking: ) "), then I had to use a new tracking number/ UPU code provided on DHLs tracking site to continue tracking on the USPS site.

I have been sent stuff from france to uk and japan and i never had a different tracking number.
Only the french one.
The best is to ask the seller a copy of the receipt of the post office.
It will show your name and the fucking tracking number.
If it is an expensive cart, i might know da guy..just let me know.

Wacky. That kit you sent me worked on USPS as soon as it got to the US. You may not have used DHL though... probably not from what you describe here.

Well, I don't think that the french guy is trying to rip you off but he sure as hell being a dick about it. It's the seller's responsability to get the stuff to the buyer, not the other way arround.

You did your part, now he should do his and that includes paying the return shipping charge -if there is any, actually... I don't remember La Poste charging return shipping charge when I lived there but that was a freaking long time ago, things may have changed- and argue with La Poste to get them to send the package again for free since they fucked up big time on this.

It was DHL, it's the only one I use. It's possibly works like you described with just registered mail though.

Agree 100%

Seller is on the hook to sort this out.

DHL is a bit of a mystery. Depending on size, value, weight and shipping costs they decide whether to partner with local postal services or not. If they do (completely intransparent for the user), you won't be able to track it any longer through DHL as soon as it hits its destination country (even true within the EU). Instead you have to use the local postal service (within the EU the tracking number stays the same, as far as I know). Since DHL is a subsidary of Deutsche Post they have many options on how to deliver your package. It can be a pain since both delivery methodes—DHL or local postal service— have different delivery times and offices, but hey everything arrives somehow. :D

Well, it ended up being a combination of the faults of my post office, the French post office, and the seller.

I had to really convince the seller to get off his ass and help me out after paying him good money for an item. He kept talking about wanting me to pay for return shipping and mentioning that he had to pay money to call the post office. That's not my problem and it's his responsibility as the seller to fix this.

The first and second tracking numbers he gave me were wrong. I finally got a third and fourth tracking number from the guy this morning and was able to pick up the package from my post office shortly after. Either the seller was not writing down things correctly or the French post office was doing the same.

Lastly, why didn't my post office find this package for me the last 3 times I went there? Why didn't anyone leave me a delivery attempt notice? Who knows?

There was a big red flag that should have kept me away from this whole deal in the first place. I responded to a forum post for an item he had for sale. He responded by saying that he moved the items to ebay even though his forum sale was still open (and still is).

Lessons learned as always. Thanks for all the comments.

I know, right. I have a theory on this. Here our post offices are always a part of a drugstore or a shopping center and the people who work at the post office don't really work for Canada Post but for the drugstore or the shopping center itself. I came to the conclusion that if the drugstore get stuck with a useless employee, they put it there as some kind of punishment because everyone is always pissed after the post office guy for some reason :lolz:
