total noob question

I have a Japanese memory card and a US cab, when I tried to save to it while playing Samsho4 it said "Memory Card Write Protected" or something similar and wouldn't save. How do I un-write protect the card? Is this an issue with the card's battery? Is a Japanese card unable to work with a US MVS-2 cab? Please advise. TIA

Have you tried saving any other games on it? The problem could be either with your card reader or the card itself. Basically you need to try another card in there to see if it's the card or not.

problem solved

Thanks for your advice and reply, the problem I was experiencing turned out to be due to a single bent pin in my card slot. I have since bent it back into line and now everything works great! Thanks again.

can you get cards for a 4 slot PCB board?

Oh and the AES cards totally fit the MVS machines, that was the whole point back in the day, you could continue a game on either the MVS or the AES from the point you were up to on either machine:-J!!

I've been trying to find a homemade card reader project, but no luck. The one pointed above (craiglist) has broken link.

I just got a 256k memory card in today from Amtron. So far it works well with no problems. The battery is user replaceable too which is a huge improvement over the SNK cards.
Thanks for all the info here. I almost ordered a flash version before I read this thread.

Which exact one did you get? That list has so much text it's so confusing..

$50.00 for a 256k card? Remember guys, neo only recognizes 16k of memory card space. The remaining 240k is going to be unused.

I didn't know about the 16k limit but that is the smallest card they have anyway. I got the top one in the list with 8k attribute memory. Shipping was quick. It only took three days from California to Pennsylvania and it comes with a plastic case. They sell the cases too if anyone needs a replacement.

Here's the part number: Pretec S65256 (old part# SA5256) 256KB SRAM PC Card with 8KB attribute memory

NeoTurfMasta: Are you still selling the 32k flash NeoSaveMasta V2? You might want to check that out if he has any left.

How does leaving the memory card in when the system is off damage it? I've read I should take it out, but I don't understand what could happen. Is there a power surge when turning on and off or does the battery somehow get discharged?

The key is to follow eBay religously. I just got the exact same card from a dude that sells music stuff. NOS, cost me $15 + shipping. :smirk:

This is gonna be sweet....'cause I've had the card reader on my MVS just sitting in the cabinet, unused, for waaaaay to long! :)

did anyone ever got one of the PCM slot CF cards to ever work? I recall reading how in theory it could but no one ever confirmed. I just got a 2 slot and need a card and want to go with the best option. I have a PCM CF card somewhere but no clue so I can't test it.

The best option is to save headaches and buy a NeoSaveMasta from Neoturfmasta member here. Plenty of space and works great.
