Building my first SuperGun

Hey chaps and chapettes,

I'm looking at creating my first Super Gun as a side project and I really want to do it the right way. I'm coming in this completely green, I'm completely clueless and would like to do this the right way.

What I'm looking to do is build something that will play Neo Geo mvs cartridges. I've seen numerous videos on YouTube where some SG's alter the RGB values, have fans and temperature gauges. This is my first project so I'm just looking to keep it simple. I'm based in the UK and any support or advice you guys can offer would be great.

I was going to buy the CMVS Analogue unit but felt this route would be an experience that could offer some insight and knowledge - I feel I'll appreciate it a lot more for creating it myself.

So I'm now at a point where i need a shopping list and an understanding of wires, leads, what goes where etc...

It could go horribly wrong at which point i don't know what I'd do. But Rot tells me this is the best NG community ever and if anyone can help you guys can. I'm also not sure where is the best place to buy parts. I've been advised to stay away eBay.

If all you want to do is play MVS carts, perhaps buy a cheapo MVS board and skip the supergun. A consolized MVS is basically a Supergun built into an MVS board. Same concept but the Supergun box is an MVS board, with direct connections to the motherboard, not the JAMMA edge.

Welcome to the world of building superguns. I love them and in fact am creating custom enclosures to make building them a breeze.

First Part List:
http://www.thesupergun.com/part-list/

A new one is coming, once I get the latest enclosure built. If you want to chat about building them, parts you need, how to wire them up, etc. Please don't hesitate to ask! I will be building another one in a few days (i have all of the parts sitting here ready to go, just waiting on the enclosure) and will be creating a video to show how fun and easy they are!

The great thing about a SuperGun vs. a Consolized MVS is that you can also enjoy the Arcade scene with one device. Just make sure you get an MVS board that is JAMMA compliant!

Hi Jasen - this is exactly what I was looking for. Something that breaks everything down simply and is clearly explained. Almost idiot proof. Page bookmarked!

Having looked at this I'm tempted to start with the CMVS and build a super gun at a later time. I think to build my confidence and experience the CMVS will be an easier route.

So any tips thrown at that also appreciated. I still feel like something is going to blow up! Will there be any differences in the way I build this considering I'm from the UK? Is this a good link to follow: http://www.neo-geo.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_Consolize_an_MVS_Board

If you build your supergun correctly, you can run jamma and MVS pinouts without a hitch.

Indeed. I even built a supergun that's JAMMA and MVS compliant. All a Supergun needs is an MVS test switch and a switch for swapping between JAMMA mono sound and MVS stereo sound.

I would like to build or buy a supergun,
I don't know much about arcade scene so I have a very basic doubt (problaby stupid, sorry), can supergun use any arcade PCB? for example: could I use an MVS NG board, also could I use a pure PCB board (Espgaluda, street fighter, pit fighter, and other classic board directly)? thanks

When built properly, a SuperGun can be very flexible. I build a lot of them and each one is different, but highly compatible. Certain MVS boards are JAMMA compliant so they will work with a SuperGun that has the extra button wired into the controller ports from the JAMMA harness.

If you are looking for a ready made SuperGun and would rather not build one, send me a PM. I have a new case on its way that I am building out and will be selling. I can completely tailor it to your needs while maximizing compatibility.
