Ikaruga (Sega Naomi) screen flip?

Hey, guys! I recently acquired Ikaruga for the Sega Naomi, but there's a problem--it comes on upside down on my vertical cabinet.

I've already flipped that monitor once because somebody originally installed it upside down. I was wondering if anybody knew of a setting somewhere that would flip the screen? None of the dipswitches on the Naomi unit do this, and there's no setting anywhere, either in the bios or in the game settings that allow you to do this.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Game on!

There's no setting for it. Screen needs to be physically rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise from "normal."

You have it set to the highest difficulty setting it seems.

To play Ikaruga in Hori mode you simply need to hook up a Dreamcast to your cab, you're welcome.

More like 180 degrees. It's a vertical cabinet. It's literally upside down.

Well this blows. Sega didn't think ahead when designing this thing huh? Most jamma pcbs have a screen flip option.

Thanks guys. Ill just practice upside down. It'll make the dreamcast version feel like child's play when I pop it in.

Well, how about physically rotating the screen? Even I managed that by myself, and I am rather weak.

are you using an Ikaruga cart or the gdrom?

It's a cart. Clearly a boot, but I just wanted to play it and I got a deal on it.

I may rotate the monitor one of these days, but then there's a bunch of other (generally pre-Jamma) games I have that won't work anymore. I already did it once. It's a 29" for a Sega Astro city. It was a 2 man job and it was actually pretty horrible. Still, If I was gonna do it for one game, Ikaruga would probably be worth it.

Thanks again for helping the noob, guys!

Have a look in the manual, there should be two cables going to your chassis from the monitor, one blue/red, the other brown/yellow, with those you can flip the picture.

P.S.: the manual is from the New Astro City, I never had a look in the Astro City, but I suppose it is similar.

Omg!! My cabs actually are new astro cities! I had no idea you could do this! Thank you so much alpha gamer! I'm gonna have a look at this when I get home!

You could also get a Yoke-Flip switching rig that would make your setup more elegant in case you ever needed to flip it back. Either build one yourself, or you can buy one from FrancoB:

"MS9 Yoke Flip Kit"

I've gone and built one myself to support my older arcade boards, and it really isn't that difficult. But in hindsight, I would have just ordered one from Franco, 'cause his would be much higher in quality than the one I put together and the price isn't too bad considering the time and parts needed.

Thank you so much! I contacted him about ordering one cuz I'm a little weak at soldering.

Everybody's been real helpful and knowledgeable here. I'm startin' to really dig on this forum.

So, update for those who give a shit.

I was able to successfuly reverse the yoke polarity on my monitor without any trouble. Now when I actually try to play the cart it crashes :very_ang:

That's a whole separate issue that I'm dealing with the seller personally on.

The things I do for vertical shooters...

"Rare Proto" my ass. It's obviously a boot. The "GD-ROM loading screen" comes up when you boot it with a timer counting down to 300, obviously to load the game to the SIMMS. If it was legit, they would have cut that out.

The game is now working after I performed the ROM test a couple times (?) We'll see how long that lasts.

I'm not through with this seller yet, either. He sold me that with a "complete" Naomi set up, including a Sega i/o board. Only problem is, the genious forgot to send me the power supply for the i/o board. Luckily I have another one I've been using, but I aim to get that damn power supply out of him. I can always report him for selling counterfeit merch if he messes with me.

Let me ask you this, as this directly relates to your issue. Have you dipped the I/O in Jasco?
