What game (or games) would you need to see on the new consoles to buy one?

I do this too, for the most part. There's that moment of, "Oh, shiny new thing..." but it fades pretty quick and then I try to find at least a handful of games I want to play on it that can't be played anywhere else, and give me a completely new experience. I know all of the consoles get their fair share of good games, but if there aren't at least three to five games I'm dying to play, and can only play on that console, I have no use for it.

Yeah. I mean, what's the point in buying a console for cross-platfrom stuff? Doesn't make sense to me.

I guess the new breed of consoles will only differ on the outside while the technical base will be almost the same. I find that incredibly uninspiring and boring.

When Saturn came out I didn't bite until SF Alpha came out. When PSX came out I didn't bite until Megaman 8 came out. When DC came out I jumped right away 'cause MvC and Soulcalibur came out. When PS2 came out I jumped on SFX3, Tekken Tag and Ridge Racer V. When XBOX came out I jumped when Soulcalibur II (Spawn) and Ninja Gaiden came out. When X360 came out I jumped on DOA4 a d Ridge Racer 6. When PS3 came out I jumped on Ridge Racer 7 and Motorstorm. When wii came out I jumped on Castle Shikigami 3.

I usually jump on a system when there's a good fighter, a good shooter or a good action game, he'll even a good racer will do. I am very happy with this current gen, I can play classic games and new games with real good controllers and now that arcade sticks are made with quality parts, I'm very happy. Online gaming revolutionized fighting games for me, it really helped me get better specially SF and more specifically HDR.

A Vanquish sequel would be hard for me to resist, even if it were those asshats Sony and their PS4.

I agree in principal but games or not ported equally. For instance Bayonetta isn't unplayable on PS3 but compared to the 360 version it's pretty shitty.

As for a new console? Hmmm... at least 5 new games that I know I absolutely have to play. Wether they're sequels to established series, niche B games, DL indie stuff I don't care just solid must play games.

A new Souls Game would force me to make the jump as well.
.

I was going to say a New Ghoul's N Ghost's to comeback as king as hard ass games, since this new kid's been running his mouth as being hard,

But keeping on topic, i don't think there is anything really that I would really want from the PS4, I never really played my Ps3 at all really, I found most of Sony's published games just tried to be Terrible Nintendo Clone's

Go on. Indulge me. As I really can't think of any off hand right now. God of War, Uncharted, MotorStorm, KillZone, GranTurismo, InFamous... to name a few. But I'm not making the jump, somehow...

Waiting for a good Final Fantasy. But to be fair it's a lost cause, just like Resident Evil.

I wonder how many games, aside from those developed or published by Sony, will actually be exclusives. Seems like everything generally comes out on every system these days.

This.

Seems to me that the console market has a huge potential to change very drastically in the next few years. With WiiU, PS4, new X-box, mobile gaming (including cell phones), and google's new android console coming out, I'd rather wait and save my money until I can see which system or systems will do what I want to do or play what I want to play.

Seems like it takes a good year or so for most new consoles to start getting good games anyways. By then there might even be a price drop (probably not).

I think exclusivity will be something Sony will definitely push for. And with social gaming having a generally lower budget (although what that number is, I can't say) if the trends hold, I could see companies actually agreeing to that. Especially if cross platform play (such as with Vita and Sony tablets) pans out. Seems like the technology would almost demand exclusivity.

Devs could concurrently make the same game on multiple platforms, but hardware differences between manufacturers could result in more effort than it's worth in the end. Developing the same game for multiple systems and using different hardware has probably been costly, and if social/network gaming in the current model of business is what Sony is dovetailing into, then the dev theory could almost force exclusivity. Minimum spending for maximum profits.

I wonder if the current dev theory is the reason the Wii U doesn't have more stuff for it right now. It's uncharted territory and the top publishers/devs may not know the best way to work with the tablet hardware and the increased focus on social gaming and interfaces.

But I'm sure AAA big titles, like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, etc, will still be developed cross platform.

Well, yeah, I guess it is to some extend, the older you get, the harder it is to get impressed by something just because it's new. On the other hand, I never really was a huge hardware nerd, system specs and long lists of planned releases (most of which usually never see the light of day) don't interest me. It's all about the games, ever was, ever will be.

I agree in principal but games or not ported equally. For instance Bayonetta isn't unplayable on PS3 but compared to the 360 version it's pretty shitty.

True.

I'm just a little fed up with the current retro and sequel vg un-culture. Developing games has become a multi-million-dollar thing, both in terms of investment as well as profit. It's not enough anymore to code a cool new game, it also has to look extremly realistic, has to have an instant appeal to online players and can be of any genre the developers want as long as it's an FPS, RPG or FPS-RPG... (I'm exaggerating a bit here). This makes vg companies reluctant to put their money into talented but unknown dev'ers or new ideas in fear of alienating their completely unflexible fanbase who rather buy part 29 of a series they know instead of trying something new.

Ah well.

Playstation Move isn't a Sony published game though. Watch that straw doesn't get stuck under your nails ;)

I can agree with the whole LBP Kart and the Sony All Star Fighting game - they're clearly very influenced, but with regards to LBP, although the first game concentrates heavily on side-on platforming, the main focus of the game was to actually be creative, design and share your ideas and level designs/layouts etc with others to keep things ongoing and fresh. A completely different approach in some respects to our favourite plumbers iterations. Obviously though, in terms of gameplay, yes... they're very similar :)

This and that is what I'm keeping a eye on, sure by default i lean towards a Sony console lately as that is the one I've had least problems with but if there's more exclusives that fit my tastes then it's a open ball game really

I'll definitely be waiting at least a year while my huge backlog holds me over.

Since most major titles will be cross-platform, new unique games from Playdead and other similar indie developers will probably finally push me to upgrade.

The Guardian Legend or something very similar to it would be nice.

Or it will just never come out.

I'll probably get some hate for this, but I think both Ico and SotC are extremely overrated. SotC especially.

Just give me a new Souls game, a new Fallout, and a new CoD/BF game and I'm set. Oh, and some more indy games that offer unique experiences.

I'd need to see backward compatibility. I'm not spending half a grand for something that is worse than what I already own. If you can replace what I already have and allow for new titles, then I'm on board.

I have yet to replace my Wii because the Wii U doesn't have GC support and the GC's library remains better than the Wii's. From what I hear the PS4 won't have it either though that could change for all I know. The initial launch PS3 had full compatibility back to PS1 plus first-generation Blu-ray support which made it a must-own system. I haven't heard anything that makes PS4 worth buying let alone must-own.

I'm going to sit this generation out and build myself a gaming PC.

(Actually, I'll probably sit every generation out from now on. I'm tired of consoles.)
