FFS I remembers just a couple years ago Wild Guns was like $35.00 for a loose cart. It's a good game but fuck, that's nuts. If this same shit happens with PS2 I'm gonna clean up. Who wants to preorder my used copy of Maximo for $150.00? Could net you $350.00 just a year later.

Mega Man X3. I have this game CIB, I got it as a kid, and it was hard to find even at release.
Hagane is very rare.

I consider Breath of Fire 2, Mega Man 7, Final Fight 3 and Mega Man x3 to be part of the dying snes cycle. I don't know how many copies capcom had printed for those, but it'd make sense if it wasn't many. BOF 2 isn't hard to get, but last year i snatched one up before the market kills it. I also had a blast playing it. I still prefer the original BOF though, both great games.
Earthbound is not that rare, just sought after. Same for chrono trigger. I have two copies of that game.
Same with soul blazer. That game had at least two print runs. It comes in old style snes and 1993 cut style.
Also, wild guns is a confusing one to me.
I also agree ninja gaiden trilogy is rare.

I know. Quite possibly my favourite game for the SNES, but I was in dire need of cash at the time and deduced that £-for-£, my SNES collection was worth the most (vs my MD collection, for example) - so I had to let it go. I sold EVERYTHING (save some bits I have saved for a friend) so I didn't see the need to hold onto the SNES for a few absolute must-haves MINUS the NW I'd sold. I went the everything or nothing route and it's wor...

Isn't Lost Vikings supposed to be rare? Been a bit since I worried about the rares but remember a big fuss about it.

Objectively speaking; yes, it's an awful port. But considering it was achieved on a SNES is near-miraculous imo. But yeah, the pausing is ridiculous.

I often questioned why they didn't attempt the original Alpha instead. I think, considering there were much fewer characters in the original that the SNES *could* have achieved a decent port, considering Alpha 2 was doable...

Popular, yet common, SNES games have nearly doubled in price the last year, an absurdity considering a lot of them are on Virtual Console. Games like Super Metroid, Super Mario All-Star, LttP, all used to be $15. Now they're fetching $30-40 for loose clean carts with working batteries. As others have stated, this is the wrong time to go into SNES collecting even if you're just looking for loose carts.
I signed up on Nintendo Age just to track down a Super Turrican 2. That forum has a worse mentality than eBay when it comes to NES/SNES. It's pretty much only FO threads (no prices anywhere), and everyone's want/trade list is the same 20 rare boxed titles. I remember looking at a loose Hagane at $85 and thinking "that's too much". Now, you pretty much have to get a PowerPak if you want to game on the original console.

Or you can do what I do and say fuck collecting scenes. Hit up thrift stores. I scored demons crest and chrono trigger for 10 bucks once. Countless others to. I paid four dollars for super metroid about a month or so ago.
Fuck working battery drama. I replace every battery based title I get, and solder in a nice holder and pop in a fresh cr2032.

Same here. All secondhand shops and flea market vendors in my area price their games and other wares according to eBay (and absurd BiN-based prices are the norm).

Same problem in the Bay Area: most local thrift shops dried up, and the rest (along with swap meets) price according to eBay. There are some places still left in San Francisco and in remote East Bay locations, but driving there equates to at least a two hour investment and that's just not worth the risk if you have a small wish list.
I have about 95% of the SNES games I want out of the way, luckily. It has gotten totally bananas lately, although to be fair, the SNES is without a doubt one of the greatest consoles in history, with some of the very best games ever. Certainly Nintendo at its peak.
I paid $200 myself for a loose Wild Guns a couple months ago. I felt like I overpaid but I wanted one with a clean label and most of the ones on ebay are all ripped up (who treats games this way?). What a game though, wow.

I paid $75 for a fairly clean copy of Wild Guns a little over a year ago, at a flea market of all places. I felt like a fool paying that price, especially being in a flea market. I guess I don't feel as silly now knowing what price the game commands today.

I sort of have a personal philosophy that I won't pay more for a game than it was new.
Records I will on rare occasion, but not video games. I am not totally sure what it is, but I just can't justify dropping that kind of coin... must be why I own more neo-geo ports than actual neo-geo games.
Yeah, the dying cycle of SNES. I still remember Capcom's ads... LONG LIVE SNES when ironically, it was nearing its end. I guess that was the point behind that all. It may have died in terms of new games being produced, but it'll never die in the hearts of gamers due to its fantastic library.
LWK, have you ever played the fan translated BoF II? Apparently, the US version had a shoddy translation, and the fan translated one is much better.
And yes, nowadays deals are harder to find with more people, even non-gamers, being more aware that there truly is a market for these retro games. Especially with smart phones and the ability to instantly Google a game's going rate, times have changed. However, last December I found four Saturn games CIB at a goodwill, including Guardian Heroes, that sold for $6 each. I was lucky! I sold all four on eBay and think I made $180 profit off of it
The SNES scene is brutal now, yes. I'm so glad I got back into it 2006, back when the scene was still plenty cheap and there were bargains to be had pretty much left and right. Them good old days. Game Crazy was still good back then, and so were the flea markets. I'm thankful I got back into it when prices hadn't yet exploded through the roof. I mean, Aero Fighters was going for around $30-$40 7 years ago. Today, $150+. Same for Earthbound, Wild Guns, etc. Madness.

I don't care. I liked it enough. There were numerous errors, but it got the point across. I only play original games. I'm sort of a purest. I don't have a single rom and just enjoy everything on my tv. Emulation doesn't feel the same on my comp. I also don't feel like flashing a cart with that to play it on my snes. Thanks though

Yes I know it's not authentic but it acts as if it is, you still play it on your TV and on a real SNES controller. The repro scene has allowed gamers to experience gems like Terranigma and Secret of Mana 2 on their SNES as if these games really did receive a US release back in 1995.
Some of the more obscure stuff, like Square's Treasure of the Rudras, has received such a polished release that it's pretty mind blowing. The fans who went through the hard work of translating the Japanese to English and even producing authentic looking boxes have really opened a new portal to the whole SNES experience
But, to each his own. But for those interested, google "OCDGamer repros." He is the man. I recently went through NAMCO's 48-meg beast of an action RPG, Tales of Phantasia, and it was an absolute fuckin' blast. The voice acting (16 megs alone were devoted to it) is crazy. Battles were tedious now and again, but it has such a cool and epic BTTF type plot. I loved it. More than Secret of Mana personally, which I really like but do find a tad overrated.
