Hi, not sure if I should be posting in this since I don't live in Vegas anymore, but I was scrolling through and it brought back a lot of memories. I used to live in Vegas with my girlfriend until Summer of 2005, and we always crawled the strip and played in the arcades. I was surprised to hear that Gameworks closed, I know it was kind of crappy but I loved the way it was setup, if that makes any sense. Also, I remember the best concentration of SNK games being in the Circus Circus. I used to maintain my top score on their Metal Slug 5 machine (initials TED I wonder if it's still there, probably not), it was awesome. I actually might be visiting Vegas for the first time since I left in April of 2013, so I'm going to keep an eye on this thread just to see if anything is happening here at that time. Thanks for stirring up all the nostalgia! :tickled:

Sorry for not checking in. The Venetian wants 16 dollars a day for hotel room access to wifi. But you can go down to the cafe and its free. I pretty much spent most of my time over at Tim's went to Insert Coins and had a nice chat with Chris, got some stuff at Gamers Paradise and yesterday I went to Gemini. I'm sitting waiting for my next flight back home, thankfully we've got no major damage and we've still got power, not sure about Internet but hopefully that'll be up this week.

I would love to join some hardcore neo geo fans in Vegas. I would for sure come. I am sick of this cold weather. Also miss the strip clubs down there lol. Last time I was there I remember a big arcade that was down stairs somewhere near the m&m store. Anyways I would tour of Vegas and a night on the town. Lets get things rolling this would for sure be a great trip

Just got the news yesterday that the Gemini Arcade Palace will be closing down on April 22nd. The owner Julie said they want to try to open elsewhere, so I hope they find a way.

Well, crap. The arcade is dead... even in Vegas.
Barcades like INSERT COIN(S) don't count, as the moneymaker there is booze, rather than the machines.

Hate to necro-bump the thread. Just wanted to let the locals know I'm going to be in town again in the beginning of November for the SEMA Show. I think I'm going to cut the hotel arcades and just go play pinball at the Hall of Fame and one night go to Insert Coins. I had heard that the GameWorks in Vegas was going to be reopening a few months ago. I tried sending an email to GameWorks to see if it was true and if they had an ETA on the opening, and naturally didn't hear anything back. I just need to figure out the bus routes. The cabbies are shysters. I went to Pinball Hall of Fame three times, went there three different ways. Thankfully the bus stop is right outside so I just took that back to the strip.

Glad to hear Gameworks will be open again, even though the arcades in Circus Circus and NY NY are a bit better. I haven't been to Vegas since 2006 but I am thinking of planning a trip to return soon.

Arcade cabs in circus circus are very poorly maintained, NYNY does not have any good machines, if you want drop me a PM when you are in town I might be free.

I doubt gameworks will be opening any time soon, if that at all, that rumor had been floating around for years.

I haven't been here but I heard is good

Sorry to hear that the GW thing is just a rumor... Still though, isn't Circus Circus pretty much the place for the best selection and feel for oldschool arcade gaming?

They are starting to push the older cabs to the back of the arcade and putting in the newer stuff, the older cabs are falling apart and hardly maintained, once they die that's it just more room for new stuff.

Not a rumor, it's now listed on the official GameWorks website. Still haven't heard back from them. I tried on their Facebook page that has over 1,000 likes and it looks like they haven't updated the page in two months.

I already know about both lounges, Insert Coins and High Scores. I went to IC and had a nice chat with the owner Chris. I kinda want to check out HS just because they offer pinball, but they seem like a copy of IC, right down to getting the same exact street artist. It sucks Julie at the Gemini had to close. While I haven't been into the Bemani games in over a decade it was great to see the people come out for the place when I visited. Shame they couldn't keep it going.

With the strip arcades I'd have to say Circus Circus had the best one, which isn't saying much. They had a good selection of games and most of them worked correctly, it was a crap shoot, you'd find an older game that worked good, a newer one that was beaten to shit. NYNY used to have a great selection but of course it got dwindled down to shit. The only thing they had different was Operation GHOST from Sega. Excalibur's arcade also was a major nosedive from when I last visited. They had less games, but more that didn't work compared to Circus.

Since I'm on a pinball kick I can spend days at the Hall of Fame, walk to In-n-Out for Lunch and go to Gamer's Paradise to see if they got anything good. I'd go check out John's "satellite location" he has at Tropicana but considering the conditions of the machines in the main building I wouldn't bother since the Trop's a shithole.

I *love* pinball, but still I like to play 80s/90s cabs quite a bit. And of course fighting games/shmups/beat-em-ups especially. I really hate how old arcades, like the new Chinatown Fair close to me, have taken the route that these Dave n' Buster like places have gone with... just sit down racers and light gun shooters from the past 10 years or so ONLY... and redemption games.

Yeah haven't been to HS, Insert Coins in a real let down most of the times, all they would need is someone to maintain the cabs in that place.

Good thing about High Scores is they serve food and all the games are free and it's out of the strip and down town area.

About gamers paradise, they only have the tropicana location now, but a few game stores are starting to pop up around town.

The guy that runs Gamer's Paradise fixes the games at Insert Coins. It sucks because he only comes in before they open the bar and it doesn't look like they have anybody there that can fix something during the night. It gets too crowded anyway so I don't think they'd even bother until the next day. Gameworks never replied back to me. I had to read on their Facebook page that they might open late February, but considering that never came from an official source I wouldn't count on them opening soon.

I'll be out there from this Sunday to Saturday. I'll mostly be going to the Hall of Fame and might go over to IC or Hi-Scores and Flippersul Wonderland.
