Side note,

One of my co-workers has a Windows phone. Meh, the interface just feels clustered; cramped. Like you tried to cram an OS designed for laptops onto a phone. I knew those Window phones would crash and burn.

I think a couple years ago it was fair to say iOS was a stronger OS and the iphones were better. Android has caught up and Samsung is making amazing phones. I see more S3s out in the public that iPhone 5. I RARELY see and iPhone 5. Mostly 4s

I have to add the 3s has amazing quality in terms of quality of speakers. Phone calls are very crisp and clear. I know it seems silly, but my last android phone was awful in that regard.

Never had an issue with viruses.

I will say that with android there is a tendency for the phone carrier to put their own shit on the phone (bloatware). T-mobile loves doing this and it is fairly frustrating. I deal with them since I am on a family plan with my parents, but I think once I am on my own I won't deal with them and adding all their shit to my lovely piece of tech.

Why not wait and see the iPhone 5s or the S4?
I had the S3 and needed to be charged everyday on LTE (GSM with Rogers)... Sold it and got an iPhone 5, charges every other day. Don't get me wrong both phones are great, the screen and size of the S3 is nice. But there are way to many features to learn on the S3. If I had to choose again I would still go with the iPhone 5.

I know it's 2013 but I still don't see the point of a smartphone.

It's just an overprice mini tablet PC that can handle phone calls IMO.

I still use my PC to plan my travels and use a map when I get lost. :vik:

It's like the number one reason for a smartphone is to use facebook. Fuck that....

Why are android software updates so inconsistent across the board? Some phones are stuck with older updates while some phones have the latest updates. I can understand if the phones are old, but one would think that the Galaxy note 2(recent phone) and the Galaxy S3 from Samsung, a very popular company would have the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 update, but they are still stuck with the previous update.

Do-able. If you turn everything off and keep it in your pocket most of the time. Only problem is that you could just as well continue using your old nokia 3210, in that case.

I have a htc desire hd. Battery life is utter shit. When i actually use it to browse the web and read some news, then the battery will be dead in about 2 hours. If i turn everything off and not use it the way it was meant to be used (smartphone), then i will get a standby time of about 4 days. Still pointless.

Anyway...
I won't be buying another htc phone as long as they keep using much too small batteries that can't be easily replaced. And as long as they keep delaying software updates because of sense.
I also would not buy a s3 at this point. it's too old already. The s4 will probably be released in may.
The iphone5 feels like a kids' phone, imo. Not just the os, but the size, too. Also, the next version will be announced before june. I expect a price drop around that time and there is also a rumor about the introduction of a more affordable iphone. I'd wait and see what happens this summer. Also, there's no proper jailbreak available for the newer hardware and versions of ios, which males using ios a pain. Not talking about pirating apps. Sb setting and the swipe shift are important to me.

The one that i'm interested in atm is the sony xperia z. It would be the perfect phone, if it had a bigger and replaceable battery.

I have the Galaxy Note 2 as well, awesome phone. At first I thought the phone was too big because I was using smaller phones in the past. Now I wouldn't dream of getting anything smaller. People are constantly coming up to me and asking me about it.

I find it hard to go back to using an Iphone now, the screen feels so small. I know the Note 2 is to big for some folk but I like it.

Running 4G and Wifi tend to kill any Android phone's battery quick. Most battery saving apps will disable both automatically within minutes of putting your phone in sleep mode. They also allow blacklisting of apps so when the the app does kick in, it'll allow running apps to still have access to the network. Doing as Rot does works the same way.

Even while your phone is in sleep mode, it tends to constantly search for a Wifi signal while staying connected to a 4G network. Case in point, my wife and I have the same phones (HTC Rezound). I have a battery saving app running, she does not. My phone will last a day and a half with overall basic use, hers needs to be charged by mid afternoon.

I can get a full day out of my S3 without much trouble. If I'm driving out of town I turn the wi-fi off since I know it's not needed in the car, biggest battery saver by far I found is just turning the screen brightness down. Taking it to a non-blinding level made a HUGE difference on battery life.

turning wifi off helps a lot.

so does putting your phone in airplane mode. You can get an iphone to run for days off a single charge with airplane mode on.

I only turn on teh nets when i need it.... mainly i only use it for phone calls and texts....

over 3 days now... still have 70% plus battery.... i wait usually until it's down to about 10-15%.... hence about 9 days useage before a recharge...:D

I get two days out of my phone with no problem. I keep wifi bluetooth and gps off unless I am using them. I keep 4g on most of the time. It really boils down to keeping things off that you don't need at the time.

My old HTC phone would eat battery like a north korean at old country buffet. I had a battery saving program (I think Green Power) and it worked well although sometimes I had to reset it in order to get the internet to turn on at all. Once I am due for an upgrade I will not be getting an HTC. Probably stick with samsung.

i went with iphone5, but you really can't go wrong with either

i basically just got the iphone because i wanted to keep unlimited data, one less thing to worry about

i do agree with supergoose about the size though, the iphone5 just feels really small for some reason ... sometimes when i play around with my old 3GS i kinda miss having a phone that size, it just fits my hand better and feels more substantial

anyway, both are great phones, just flip a quarter or something

Have they fixed the issues with the iPhones signal problems?

You know, when you hold it and the signal drops (LOL)

I must be the only person in the world who wants a smaller phone. The iphone 5 is too big imo and that samsung is just comically huge. I couldn't ever imagine having that thing jammed into my pocket.

I'm with you Kiel, I want to get a 4s to replace my 4 and be done with it for the next 6 years. Phones that are almost tablets defeat the purpose in my opinion. I don't need a phone that doubles as a serving tray at parties.
