I bought Munchkin but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Nobody I know likes board games. I'm wondering why i even buy them.

Yeah I'm sort of an FFG whore. I actually have a lot of Hex and Counter wargames as well from MMP and GMT but I don't post about them often as I figure there aren't many here interested in that.

Eric I've heard mixed things about Android. It's definitely FFG's attempt to create a Blade Runner type universe. I think they went the right route by setting their new version of Netrunner in their Android Universe.

@Cannonball - Munchkin is okay. I mean, it is what it is. It's a light game you might consider playing before getting on to a more satisfying game. I guess it is fun to be a dick and screw someone over though.

Also...don't let lack of people to play games with stop you from buying them :emb:

I still want to get the reprint of 1830 and I'm pretty sure no one will want to play that with me. If only they knew what they were missing, if only.

I just unboxed Descent 2.0 - It was hard to not be letdown since the original game box was literally twice as big as this, but they crammed this box full of stuff, and at a substantially lower price it's still a SOLID value for the money.

I took some shitty pictures (also put them on FB):

The lighting in my house is so poor.

I'm really glad I'm getting a new table in two weeks.

Damn Descent looks badass! I love those pieces.

Yeah, I'm not going to stop buying games. At least they're there when the opportunity does arise. That's kind of what I had in mind for Munchkin. I wanted to get a couple quick and easy more casual games to play between longer games.

Best part is with the just released Descent 1.0 Conversion Kit you can use all the Heroes and Monsters from the first version of Descent in the Second Version of Descent.

Descent 2.0 shipped with 8 heroes and I have about 40 or so heroes from Descent 1.0 :buttrock: Lots of older monsters types too.

That's really going to add to the replayability of this title.

That and Descent actually has "classes" you can choose for your characters which is pretty cool. Each Hero is one of four Archetypes: Healer, Mage, Scout, Warrior, and within each Archetype there are two classes - For the Warrior archetype you can choose your warrior hero to be a Knight or a Berserker - and each class gets different skills and starting weapons based on the class they choose.

So far there are only 8 classes (2 for each archetype) but I am certain they will add more.

I really like that Descent 2.0 added attributes, and attribute tests (basically skill checks) - one Descent 1.0 expansion added skill checks, but it was only used in that expansion which was tragic I thought. Skill checks in this game are handled oh so well. Really is going to make having a balanced team of heroes more important, whereas in Descent 1.0 it was pretty clear who the best characters were.

Now of course the real trick is to find a group of people to play it with. :envy:

If you move closer to the Bay I'll come on over. Every time I talk about trying any kind of strategy board game, most of my friends just furrow their brows.

This is absolutely my next game purchase (that and the Descent 2e conversion kit.)

good idea! Duffy we should work on that.

edit:

some ideas
-------------

- we can have a japhei game piece that works kind of like the bandit in settlers of catan
- accumulate "big tymer points" instead of victory points
- player with the most "big tymer points" at the end of the game wins (unless they're currently banned)
- you can get big tymer points by doing stuff like shredding inserts, selling AF3 home carts, making noobs melt down, finishing SSRPG translation, getting someone to expose their genitalia, etc.

Let's make this happen.

I recently played Chaostle. That was pretty fun.

DASH RADIO needs to be in this somehow.

OK. This basically needs to happen. Any and all are welcome to participate in the making of this legendary game.

There needs to be a 'Backpedal Card' random in the community deck with a picture of that MJ gif; if you get stuck in a drama zone without enough common sense points, you can moon walk on outta there with the Backpedal Card.
...just brainstorming...

I actually just pre-ordered that Leviathans game. I'm fucking sold before having even read the rules. It just looks so awesome. If it sucks I'll probably be able to sell it or trade it fast while the hype machine is still rolling. I'm hoping it's everything I want it to be.

I've been watching a lot of GenCon videos.

Where the hell are you at NeoSneth? So jealous you are there.

Anyway folks I'm convinced FFG's new Star Wars starship combat game is the shiznit. It's my next purchase, after Leviathans hits. Gonna be an expensive game to get in to, but hopefully i can wrangle so folks in to getting their own stuff too.)

I have to go to GenCon next year.

Does it bear any resemblance to WotC's Starship Battles?

Goddammit, 'duf. You were at Gen Con and I didn't know? We could have hooked up, hit the Ram, downed some drinks and talked shop, maybe got a game of Battles of Westeros or Descent going.

I have so much fucking swag from Gen Con I don't even know where to begin. I waffled on Descent but at the end, I went in on it.

SOOOOoooo pissed off Reaper wasn't there this year.

WotC's plans for D&D Next and Forgotten Realms seem extremely encouraging, with a focus going back to spurring the players to use their imagination and teaching them to exercise their mind's eye.

Paizo has totally got it figured out with Pathfinder. Pathfinder Kids is fucking brilliant. Just brilliant. And thank god it's a role playing game they're dong it with and not a card game. We need for the RPG to come back and the only way that's going to happen is to get kids wanting to make up their own adventures. As much as I like boardgames, the market's saturated with them.

No, I wasn't at GenCon. Why was I not at GenCon? I have no fucking clue. Next year, I'm going for sure. I believe NeoSneth was there. I've been just watching lots of videos being sad I wasn't there. My vacation earlier in the year where I took a week off to play Diablo 3 really seems like a waste now. Sigh. Upcoming vacation will be cooler though. Damn, I am SO going to GenCon next year. Probably need to start saving up now.

I'm really interested in WotC's new D&D tactical skirmish board game. I'd like to play it, but not sure I'd commit to buying it. I would love to try out any pen and paper RPG but I'd have to have a good group, and even then I feel like I might rather just play a board game. I dunno, hard to say as I have such little experience with RPGs.

Does it bear any resemblance to WotC's Starship Battles?

No, that game was SHIT. Knew it was shit the first time I played it (Actually knew it was shit when I read the rules)

It's more like Wings of War if you're familiar with that game at all.
