Who the fuck wants to play emulators on a PSP anyways? Its completely missing the point, not to mention PSP emulation is fucking terrible and nowhere even close to accurate.

Neo Geo X is attractive because of the dock and joystick, not because of the handheld part of it. I don want Neo games on a portable, I want them on my TV so I cant get piss drunk with my friends and play Ba.seball Stars 2 on a nice big TV. Hooking a PSP up to a TV with its horrible scaling, and plugging joysticks into it...now THAT is some peon shit right there. THOSE are the people we should be condeming and making fun of.

One thing I think would be very cool, is if they released future games for this system in mini homecart cases. Maybe the next collection of games can have a cool insert, and maybe even a manual (in a baggy, no less). Have a homecart shell inside with a slot where the SD card sits. There's a lot of ways to pander to the Neo Geo crowd, and truly make it a love letter.

My main concern with this thing is whether or not more games will be available beyond what is included.

I'd really love to be able to play Shock Troopers 2nd Squad on the go.

It's licensed by SNKP but it's not by them. Last thing I played that had their blessing was this buggy mess:

SUPPORT SNK GUYS!!!!1

We're getting a compilation on some generic hardware, and SNK said "that's cool", I really don't care about supporting this lack of effort.

You shoulda got it on Wii dude.

I am down for supporting this new device. Anyone know how expandable it will be for sure?

I want to try and contact Tommo to see if there's any way we can get some more info on this thing, and most importantly, a demo of it action. I'd like to see the packaging as well, hopefully it'll be a throwback to the old AES console box, as that would be sexy as hell.

If this thing is coming out in December, surely there is a working model that can be demonstrated to get people even more excited. Hell, hopefully somebody from Tommo or SNKP is on this forum reading member feedback.

And what games do NGF hold the rights to? I'm surprised we haven't heard from Dion yet..

Why not?

They spend more time re-releasing, and re-re-releasing, and re-re-re-releasing the same Neo titles all the time.

Might as well just manufacture new runs of AES titles.

They can find a buyer which would guarantee they can move all the carts out of their warehouse.

Why not? Well, first off there's the financial reasons. SNKP is not going to dump millions of dollars into a re production run of any AES cart just to have a HUGE majority of them sit around as dead stock. And even if they did, they would have to make X number of carts for the run to be cost effective. There's way too much overhead involved in making this happen on every front of the manufacturing process.

Second: Collectors don't want a re production of a rare AES cart, they want the ORIGINAL. That's kind of the whole point of collecting. And the price point of a new reproduction cart would more than likely be way out of range for the rest of the neo fans. Why the hell would someone spend $300+ on a reproduction metal slug cart when you can buy the MVS cart for $50 or get them all on the Metal Slug Collection for about $30, or download them on xbox live or PSN or the wii for even less than that?

They spend time re-releasing, and re-re-releasing, and re-re-re-releasing the same Neo titles all the time because it's CHEAP. It's a quick buck. You're looking at this as a neo fan and possibly a collector. SNKP has to look at this as a business.

AES reproduction carts are a ridiculous idea that's never, never going to happen.

The only reason that this new Neo Geo X and Neo Geo X Gold system are even happening is because of emulation. Well, that and the fact that SNKP farmed out the production for cheap. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper to make this set up than it would be to start stamping out cart PCBs again.

I hope they sell extra Joysticks. I am really starting to drool over this...

Yes, the Neo Geo X joystick will be available for purchase separately at the same time the handheld is released.

The NEOGEO X GOLD includes:
NEOGEO X STATION
NEOGEO X HANDHELD
NEGEO X JOYSTICK

The games bundled could change before release.

The NeoStore will be stocking this new product.

I do like the fact it comes with a joystick and all the means to output to the TV. The image also shows a second port for two-player local co-op goodness while doing it. I do like those features.

While I don't know the details, if the pocket system has battery life anywhere approaching the NGPC (Yeah, it uses more juice than the NGPC, but the technology to produce more with less power has come a long way since then) I'd be more than on-board with this thing. I'm still interested so I'll bite with their information-website offer. It already has half of the portable Neo Geo perfection on it. The thumb stick. To this day, no other company's D-pad or controller (used digitally) has ever ever topped the Neo Geo thumb stick.

When they stopped supporting the NGPC, I was a bit bummed about that thumb stick as nobody else copied that idea. Guess it's good that snk-playmore is good about keeping that control alive. That alone would make this system the *go* system for fighters on the go.

I already have the owner of a local Play N' Trade seeking to pre-order one of these for me, as well as a manager of a local GameStop as a backup option. However, if the NeoStore were to offer the same price tag as everyone else, as well as a confirmed pre-order option, then I'd rather my money go there.

People are banking on the emulation being 'good' or 'perfect'. The fact is Neo-Geo has had exceptional emulation for a long time so i doubt there will be any issues there.

While this may be true, the paid-for emulations have generally been lacking.

The charging dock is a little home console? Yeah, I'll probably buy one of these. :emb:

Itll be hilarious to see the look on Gamestop employees' faces when people in their late 20s and 30s start walking in to drop $200 on a 20 yr old videogame console theyve only maybe seen or heard of online or from an older brother.

The Call of Duty generation really has no idea what the gaming landscape was like prior to polygons and first person shooters. Its sad how underappreciated "pure" gaming is these days. Colorful, lovingly-detailed 2D graphics that almost look like a painting of pixels, tight controls and instant-action without endless tutorials and cutscenes bogging down the experience.

If anything, Im hopeful that a quality product here will result in a renewed interest in 2D gaming and hopefully inspire some old-school devs to make new games the "old" way. Stuff like Mega Man 9/10 is too few and far between.

Btw, glad to hear about the Joysticks being sold seperately Chris. Anything else you know about this thing that we don't already?

Fucking editing, how does it work?

Really though, whats up with people saying NGF is going to sue Tommy because of rights? I keep seeing that on other forums.

They should consider a re-release of the neo geo cd pad for this, too.

I have a feeling that i might end up getting this thing despite not wanting to spend the money.

Edit:
I really hope that the base station will be the exact same size as the original home system and i would like the box to look as close to the original as possible, too.
