No priors and easy going, have to play the race card here and saw its because I am not white and live in areas that you would not expect to see select demographics.

What race are you and what kind of car does your brother drive? Does the car have any modifications, illegal add-ons (like tinted windows), or anything similar that distinguishes it from run of the mill vehicles?

Just wondering, because a lot of conjecture regarding police mistreatment focuses on the race card instead of the standout factor. As in, who stands out and why do they stand out to the point of attracting police attention?

Their problem wasn't his race, it's that he was picking up all the CPS2 boards in Torrance. That's when his name went up on the wanted boards. If you try to be a CPS2 ringleader they're gonna get you.

This. I'm a caucauzoid humanoid, but I'm pretty sure my hair (when it was dreaded) and my piercings (still current, pulled over just yesterday) had something to do w/it.

My last 3 pull overs have been just after I make eye contact across an intersection, smile, and nod.

I don't ride dirty, so I don't sweat it. My kids love cops, so they mark out when we get to talk to one in real life.

The day it makes me late for a well baby visit or some such, then, I'll prolly get pissed.

Mixed heritage non-white. He drives a Ford Taurus with no bells or whistles. What does the car have to due with the fact that the pig explicitly told me I had a warrant especially when he had not even ran my ID yet

Wish I have had a real fucking metal slug, make that sunny day rain crimson.

Yeah I mark out when I brush into one also in case I need evidence. Name, badge, vehicle number, supposed provable cause, date and location. These are things you will want to note.

Yup.

They can't site you for being *too* polite. I get all of the above, every time.

So far, they really tend to mellow out when they see the babies in the back seat, and realize I'm not the slightest bit impaired.

I've had it w/ the 'teachable moment' opportunities for my kids tho...
I've been pulled over 5x in the last 3 mos. Shit is beyond played out.

This is one of the most embarrassing moments for black America.

When the former president of NAACP is on CNN telling the black community to wake up, maybe they should listen.

Oh good god. The longer the law enforcement drag their feet, the worse its reputation is gonna get.
Now CCTV from the police station has come forth, revealing that Zimmerman does not seem the least bit like he suffered from beatings, making liars out of him, alleged witnesses, and even the police that filed the report.

Trayvon Martin Video Shows No Blood or Bruises on George Zimmerman

By MATT GUTMAN (@mattgutmanABC)
March 28, 2012
A police surveillance video taken the night that Trayvon Martin was shot dead shows no blood or bruises on George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who says he shot Martin after he was punched in the nose, knocked down and had his head slammed into the ground.

The surveillance video, which was obtained exclusively by ABC News, shows Zimmerman arriving in a police cruiser. As he exits the car, his hands are cuffed behind his back. Zimmerman is frisked and then led down a series of hallways, still cuffed.

Zimmerman, 28, is wearing a red and black fleece and his face and head are cleanly shaven. He appears well built, hardly the portly young man depicted in a 2005 mug shot that until a two days ago was the single image the media had of Zimmerman.

The initial police report noted that Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and nose, and after medical attention it was decided that he was in good enough condition to travel in a police cruiser to the Sanford, Fla., police station for questioning.

His lawyer later insisted that Zimmerman's nose had been broken in his scuffle with 17-year-old Martin.

In the video an officer is seen pausing to look at the back of Zimmerman's head, but no abrasions or blood can be seen in the video and he did not check into the emergency room following the police questioning.

Zimmerman was not arrested although ABC News has learned that the lead homicide investigator filed an affidavit urging Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter. The prosecutor, however, told the officer to not file the charge because there was not enough evidence for conviction.

Zimmerman said he was heading back to his car when Martin attacked him. His lawyer, Craig Sonner, said his client felt "one of them was going to die that night," when he pulled the trigger.

Martin's girlfriend, who was on the phone with him in his final moments, told ABC News in an exclusive interview that she has not been interviewed by police, despite Martin telling her he was being followed.

The 16-year-old girl, who is only being identified as DeeDee, recounted the final moments of her conversation with Martin before the line went dead.

"When he saw the man behind him again he said this man is going to do something to him. And then he said this man is still behind him and I said run," she said.

Phone records obtained by ABC News show that the girl called Martin at 7:12 p.m., five minutes before police arrived, and remained on the phone with Martin until moments before he was shot.

DeeDee said Martin turned around and asked Zimmerman why he was following him.

"The man said what are you doing around here?" DeeDee recalled Zimmerman saying.

She said she heard someone pushed into the grass before the call was dropped.

Zimmerman, who had called 911, was asked by the dispatcher if he was following the teen. When Zimmerman replied that he was, the dispatcher said, "We don't need you to do that."

Martin's death has sparked protests across the country and prompted President Obama to say that if he had a son, he would look like Martin.

Over the past few days, leaks have emerged suggesting Martin was dogged by discipline problems.

Martin had been slapped with a 10 day school suspension after a bag with suspected marijuana was found in his backpack, Benjamin Crump, the family's attorney, said.

Last year the teen was suspended for spraying graffiti on school grounds. The Miami Herald reported that the school guard who stopped him searched his backpack and found 12 items of women's jewelry and a flathead screw driver that the guard believed to be a "burglary implement." But Martin was never charged or specifically disciplined for the incident.

Crump alleged that the Sanford police had leaked damaging information about Martin in order to muddy the case, calling it a "conspiracy." Crump called the school disciplinary problems "irrelevant" to the case that "an unarmed 17 year kid was killed."

As the conventional wisdom goes, it's often the coverup that ends up being more damaging than the original crime.

Apparently Spike Lee mistakenly tweeted the address of an elderly couple as George Zimmerman's and they had to move into a hotel.

http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation...ee-tweets-wrong-george-zimmerman-address.html

A tweet forced an elderly couple to flee their home and move into a hotel room after director Spike Lee incorrectly circulated to his 240,000 followers that their address was that of Trayvon Martin’s shooter George Zimmerman.

Since the tweet went out, Elaine and David McClain, 70 and 72, have gotten hate mail and unwanted visitors. Their son told the Orlando Sentinel they left to avoid the spotlight and possible danger.

Lee took down the tweet and was not available for comment. The director, noted for such films as “She’s Gotta Have It” and “Do the Right Thing,” is one of several celebrities who has been criticized for what’s become known as “reckless tweeting.”

Two Texans are seeking compensation from Justin Bieber after his prank tweet “Call me right now,” followed by a list of random digits, left their phone ringing off the hook.

Courtney Love settled a lawsuit for $430,000 over a tweet ranting against a fashion designer in 2011, the Associated Press reported.

It is a challenge to prove defamation in lawsuits against tweets, says Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

“If it was negligent as opposed to intentional, it’s going to be an even more difficult case,” he says.

Sounds like he didn't do the right thing.

I saw the headlines about the video.
What can you make out from the video?
So he was taken to jail?
The way the coverage sounded the cops just asked him did you kill him? Zimmerman replies "yup he needed a killin" Cops nod head and drive away.
What a goofy story and crappy job of covering it by the news.
Why do they pick the stories they do?

I'm really glad I withheld judgment on this, since most of the initial reports were all panicky, sensationalist... and ultimately wrong.

Instead of; "EVIL CRAZED RACIST WHITE VIGILANTE GUN-MAN KILLS INNOCENT UNARMED INNOCENT TEENAGE INNOCENT BLACK INNOCENT STUDENT!!!!!11 INNOCENT INNOCENT EVIL-GUNS WHARGARBLE!!!11"

It was; "Local idiot gets himself into dangerous situation where he's forced defend himself, which results in death of another idiot. Florida." which was what I figured it would turn out to be.

Maybe we should all keep witholding judgement just a wee bit longer.

I think that's the general sentiment, but the longer the police department and Florida Attorney General drags this out, the longer the drama will continue.

In that respect, I kind of agree with galfordo — it's almost as if they want to drag this out. However, sometimes bureaucracy just cannot turn around 180˚ 'cos it's set in its own inertia, and sometimes they just hope that people's energy would just peter out.

The newspaper is doing a remarkably deep investigative role in this, in its function as the 4th estate — holding authorities accountable by uncovering the unpleasant secrets that establishment wishes remained hidden.

Just fucking arrest Zimmerman and go to trial already, if the writ of law is to have any credibility.

The Orlando Sentinel has some new accounts on this.
Including The New Black Panthers putting a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman's head.
Orlando Sentinel 26th March 2012 Account Article 20120326_1

Copy/Paste.
With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law-enforcement authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say. There have been no reports that a witness saw the initial punch Zimmerman told police about.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened Feb. 26. But that night, and in later meetings, he described and re-enacted for police what he says took place.

In his version of events, Zimmerman had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words and then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense.

Civil-rights leaders and more than a million other people have demanded Zimmerman's arrest, calling Trayvon a victim of racial profiling and suggesting Zimmerman is a vigilante.

Trayvon was an unarmed black teenager who had committed no crime, they say, who was gunned down while walking back from a 7-Eleven with nothing more sinister than a package of Skittles and can of Arizona iced tea.

Zimmerman's account

This is what the Sentinel has learned about Zimmerman's account to investigators:

He said he was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.

Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.

Police have been reluctant to provide details about their evidence.

But after the Sentinel story appeared online Monday morning, City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. issued a news release, saying there would be an internal-affairs investigation into the source of the leak and, if identified, the person or people involved would be disciplined.

He did not challenge the accuracy of the information.

At a Monday news conference, Trayvon's mother, father and their lawyers called the report that their son was suspended from school because of a marijuana baggie irrelevant and needlessly hurtful.

Trayvon's father, Tracy Martin, said "even in death, they are still disrespecting my son, and I feel that that's a sin."

His mother, Sybrina Fulton, said, "They killed my son, and now they're trying to kill his reputation."

Supporters have held rallies in Sanford, Miami, New York and Tallahassee, calling the case a tragic miscarriage of justice.

Civil-rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton headlined a rally in Sanford on Thursday that drew an estimated 8,000 people. The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday spoke at an Eatonville church, where he called Trayvon a martyr.

Zimmerman has gone into hiding. A fringe group, the New Black Panther Party, has offered a $10,000 reward for his "capture."

One-minute gap

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there has been a dispute about whether they came from Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest at very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aid but he said he did not need to go to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

The Department of Justice last week opened a civil-rights investigation into what happened, and Gov. Rick Scott appointed a special prosecutor, Angela Corey, the state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties.

In an interview with the Sentinel on Monday, she said it is too early to say whether she would leave it to a Seminole County grand jury, which local prosecutors had decided to convene April 10, to decide whether to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter or some other crime.

Her two-lawyer team worked through the weekend on the case, she said, and it will take several more days, perhaps a week, to decide how best to proceed.

She would not comment about any specific pieces of evidence, including what authorities have learned from a 16-year-old Miami girl who may have been on the phone with Trayvon as he and Zimmerman came face to face.

Benjamin Crump, one of the family's attorneys, told reporters last week that the girl told him she heard the two exchange words then a sound that she believed was Zimmerman pushing Trayvon.

Corey said her office has routinely challenged self-defense claims and will pursue charges in this case if the evidence supports it.

LoL

I'm not even gonna dignify that with an answer.

There is one less person walking on this planet, and that's all I gotta say. People who choose not to be outraged, that's their business. I don't respect those decisions to see prejudice yet choose to do nothing. The reason why this sparked such popular outrage is 'cos people can relate to being profiled, being harassed by the PoPo, and losing members of their community with no more than a shrug from their fellow citizens, who can concoct any number of rationale to justify the harassment, incarceration, or death of their marginalized segment of the population.
