"Poor Foods" who eats them here?

Poor foods comes in handy when I just haven't gotten around to shopping at times. Canned corned beef comes in handy if you have potatoes and onions or cabbage and onions... just fry it up, add some beef broth (or a little water if your out), add a little caraway seed and you get a really tasty meal. I actually eat flavored sardines on Ritz crackers with a coke to drink when I am hungover at times.
Ramen noodles are more of a snack to me than a real meal. There is no nutrition in it. It seems like when you add some stuff like meat or veggies to ramen, it really never works out great. I only add eggs, dried chives and a little Mongolian Fire Oil (chinese hot oil, pretty much). This is the only way I can feel like I got a meal out of it.

Don't much care for the Sardines in mustard thing anymore though.
Personally I can't live without Deviled Ham Sammiches and Grilled SPAM sammiches either. I usually whip up this stuff while watching Trailer Park Boys and wash it down with Rum & Coke (Captain Morgan) to have the TOTAL T.P.B. experience.
But I'm the kid who loved to eat C Rations and MREs too, so there you go.

Actually, all that stuff is stocked in my cupboards at the moment. I don't do the shopping but just checked and yup, I eat all this, spam, ramen, vienna, I guess I was raised on this stuff and never considered them to be "poor" but to each their own. If by "poor" you mean nutritionally than yes, very bad and full of sodium, but "poor" like "your so poor you eat this (etc)" than I guess I do and kind of like eating this stuff.

They still make Spam with bacon. It's not only flavored, it has pieces of bacon within the Spam. Pretty good stuff though it's definitely very salty.
Other food I like...Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and good old Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Ravioli eaten straight out of the can. Yummers!

I was actually super tired of instant ramen, I used to love it as a kid but eating so much through my life I grew to hate them, but I have discovered I love nong shim instant kimchi
still shitty for you and not a meal, but if you need a cheap quick snack, throw in a egg and you got a damn tastey snack for a buck or so, I think the spicey flavor compliments the egg well.

You are so flip and Hawaiian at the same time.... but yeah I like that stuff too.
Cous Cous is good, but the only supermarkets I've found it in are at "fancier" Vons/Ralphs and Whole Foods markets. Sometimes Henry's, Trader Joes or Sprouts has it.

Those better be sardines in tomato sauce and not the fancy peel lid in olive oil type.

I was actually watching Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmern and he came to Hawaii and I watched a lot of his shows where he eats cow dick, chicken vagina, balut, blood cake and bugs. But when he came to Hawaii he said there is only two things in this world that he doesn't enjoy eating, one was spam and the other was walnuts WTF?? Walnuts??
I actually don't eat much spam as it's too salty to me now. I do eat it when my wife buys the low sodium one which is not often as she likes the regular one.

I remember when I first moved to here a few years ago
when I was trying to save money like crazy.
My diet consisted of hotdogs, hot pockets, pbj sandwiches, and burritos that probably cost close to 15-20 cents eat.
Talk about bottom feeder food.
I get a gag reflex just thinking about it.

Yep, I have plenty of experience w/"poor foods" to this day, but I wish my folks would stop mispronouncing Vienna like VY-EENA.

This reminds me even more that I actually need to cut out sodium in my diet. I try to eat healthier, but everything canned of which I cook with has sodium in it. My blood pressure is a little higher than it should be and my doc has me on water pills so I won't end up with hypertension. My foot has been messed up since my sprain a while back and keeps becoming re-injured... so I haven't been able to exercise properly for 7 months now. All of this at the age of 30.

but I love corned beef.
Not mixed with hash browns,
just straight corned beef de brazil.
Totally chock full of salt though.

it's pretty expensive whenever I see it nowadays.

LOL, well when I was in jail over a weekend that was what we had for breakfast on Sunday along with coffee with creamer and no sugar. I thought the no sugar was weird until I learned you could make alcohol with sugar then it made sense.

Yeah, I've had most of that stuff growing up. Not partial to it any more especially the Spam and Vienna Sausage.
Still have the odd Ramen but throw out the flavoring and strain the water instead add Thai peanut sauce.
Pork/Franks and beans all the time. Easy and not total shit but don't use hotdogs, toss in some Brats or Bahama Mamas and you got something good.
Tonk mentioned "pipe bombs" which is string cheese wrapped in bologna, which is amazing. I'm not partial to the term pipe bomb, more the hillbilly burrito or trailer park tornado. Or if you want to get fancy some nice deli pepperoni also works.
