This game looks simply amazing. I knew Kojima was always interested in working with Platinum Games, but I had no idea he would have them helm a Metal Gear project. It's a very wise decision on his part as I felt the original Metal Gear Rising looked great, but it was nowhere near the level of epicness this new trailer is. I think he saw that his forte was not action games, so he sought out who he felt was the cream of the crop when it came to third person actions games. Hence he choose Platinum Games.

Bonerific.

That's all fine and well, but how can you speak to the quality of the previous version? It only existed as a teaser trailer. We knew pretty much nothing about it.

I'm simply saying from the small trailer of the old build I saw and the small trailer of the new build I saw, the new one looks much better.

Y u so confused?

Dude, I'll probably be getting this game and I usually don't get a hardon for action games. (I know what's wrong with me right?)

I wonder if this will be all action/revenge?

I want Kojima to continue to explore PMCs and Mercenaries. Fascinating topic.

I just thought it was strange you were kind of pooh-poohing the old trailer in favour of the new one. Given that the new one is the first to actually have any gameplay in it I figured the issue was kind of moot. That's all.

Actually the old one had gameplay in it as well.

I just hope that if the motion controls ended up being gay, there will be an option to play it normally.

I thought MadWorld had good motion controls, so I don't think it's impossible.

I don't know.. doesn't really feel like Metal Gear at all. Not just the game play, but colors and tone. Seems kinda ridiculous too, especially when he picks that MG Ray up and tosses across the city. Reminds me of SW Force Unleashed. MG:FU anyone?

In what sense do you mean? I don't remember too many super human feats. There was a bit of the paranormal, but not really much outside of realistic military combat.

So, the complaints about the spin-off game is that it does not play or look exactly like the game it spined off of?....what? I ..it...what? Jeez, well following this line of thinking, I better let Nintendo know right away that Mario Kart 7 is going to bomb, so is Paper Mario, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros., Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario RPG... Nintendo must know of this information immediately.

In all seriousness this is a spin off. It's meant to be different. This is pretty easy to tell by the omission of "Solid" from the title. It is in the Metal Gear universe, but not part of the true Solid series. If that doesn't convince you, meh you're loss. I'll be enjoying this amazing game while jaded MGS fans miss out. Oh well.

Did it? Well shit, never mind then.

Seems your memory on this matter is as shitty as mine... ;)

How about the fact Vulcan Raven carried a gun you normally mount on an aircraft? That's just one example, and by no means all that ridiculous compared to some of the other shit they put in there. I admit the whole thing is a bit over the top, but MGS has always been that way. Here's one more if you don't believe me: In MGS4, Raiden has his arms amputated and fights off a bunch of bad guys anyway... by wielding his sword in his mouth. It was awesome, but also downright ludicrous. Just sayin'.

wow, doesn't take much to get you riled up, does it?
I'm not saying it won't be a good game. It just doesn't seem to have that "Hideo" touch to me. I really enjoyed Bayonetta, but I almost feel this would be better as an original ip instead of a MG spin off.

1 Well, if Jessie Ventura can do it.....
2 His body is mostly cybernetic, what am I missing?

Let's not forget one other thing: They took Raiden, the pussiest character in the history of pussies, and made him so cool and badass we're all chomping at the bit at the chance to play his game.

Now that's laudable.

Jesse Ventura had a minigun. You'd normally mount that on a truck or something, but it's not totally crazy to imagine the idea of a person holding and firing one. Vulcan Raven was using a vulcan cannon..! There's no way a person could ever even lift one, let alone aim and fire it.

And it was his mouth.. c'mon. That's silly. I find it strange that someone would think that's okay and yet balk at him tossing a Ray around.

Don't forget. These are but two examples... There are many more, I'm sure.

EDIT: I was curious so I checked. Apparently a vulcan cannon weighs about 250 lbs. I'm guessing that's without the ammo, belt, etc. So I suppose you could lift it, but fire it? Yeah right.

Riled up? I don't think we know each other all that well if you think that's me riled up.

I was simply making the counterpoint to the ludicrous idea that this game not being exactly a 1:1 Metal Gear Solid game. Why does that matter. It looks badass, has an amazing developer behind it. Why worry about non-consequential crap?

Well, to be fair, "they" didn't do anything at all to Raiden, Kojima did in MGS4.

That's what I was referring to... Guess I could have mentioned that bit.

I just really love MGS4. I thought it was a pretty amazing triumph of gameplay, story and design, ludicrous though the whole thing may have been.

Link talking about the game more.

Also, some info from NeoGAF that was gleened from the Hidechan Radio podcast and KP Productions Report podcast:
OK, I know miladesn is listening to the podcast now, so he will certainly pick up a few more details, but here's what I remember:
• Korekado (the new project manager, you remember him from the "fight" he had with Kojima in the MGS4 making off video) implicitly says that the project failed because of the previous director, he didn't have a clear vision for the game design. And they did the mistake of starting working on the story, mocap, etc... just based on the "cut anything" gimmick. They tried to add gameplay elements, but it always felt not enough to make a game. They made multiple prototypes, but it never really worked.
• The project was once cancelled (? 中止 in Japanese?), and then Kojima invited Platinum to Kojima Prod, and asked Korekado to make a presentation in front of Minami and Inaba
• They gave the previous plot to Platinum, but Platinum ended up asking to write it all again from scratch. Therefore, it went from between MGS 2 and 4, to after MGS4. Writing the script took 2 months (instead of 10 months with the previous failed project).
• They will an interview from Kojima and Inaba posted online on Wednesday (Iwata asks??) to give more details.
• They were playing a demo of the game during the podcast, and they said Platinum added a gameplay element. Since you can cut anything, thy added something that would allow you to enjoy the "taste" of that freedom (??? Drink or eat the enemies???)
• Enemies are cyborgs, and that red liquid is not blood but some kind of cyborg oil

I listened to English podcast:
http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/radi...report_152.mp3

here is a summary

gameplay is 100% Platinum Games, Story and cutscenes done by Kojima Productions. They go and check out with other, making sure characters and world are presented correctly in the game as it should be in Metal Gear universe.

they talk a lot about game's development, you should listen if you're interested.

They want to go all out with action, crazy scenes that you haven't seen in the series from Kojipro before.

The old MGS Rising story was set between 2 and 4, but when they decided to go to platinum they decided that it was limiting and changed it to set after MGS4. PG's game design demanded the story to be changed, gameplay comes first etc. They think it was a good decision.

About Zan-Datsu:
It was a a concept revealed in E3 2010, it's now taken away, they think it slows you down, you still cut thing as you see but it's different than the concept shown in E3 2010. "Gameplay comes first" again.

Who's the director?

When talking about director at PG, Kamiya is the first name to come up but he's not directing, they are unable to reveal it yet but they have great talent there for action games, it's a great team there etc.

This time the whole work flow is toward English, they will be releasing English trailers first, game is directed more to western audiences, they try to develop with that in mind. Even if game design can not be released in Japan that's fine, western gamers come first. Talking about shooters etc and how it's the biggest market. They are aiming for a global market.

This doesn't mean they are copying western games, they are making what they want, it's still a Japanese made game, but they had that in mind. They are making games, games that are fun, but thinking who will find it fun.

P.S. If this game lacks that certain kind of Hideo-ness, it's probably because he's not directing it. That said, I'm sure it'll have a lot of his trademarks in there... Cue the monkey in a diaper.

Best line in the entire quote. I am so damn tired of games being lauded for amazing story but ass for gameplay. This is why I love Platinum Games. They remember it's called a video GAME and the GAMEplay should come first. As much as the MGS is known for story, and do I ever love it, without the amazing gameplay it would simply be a movie.
