Wii: Zelda - Skyward Sword

Didn’t see a thread for this, so thought I’d start one. I know there are not a lot of Wii players here, but looks like the early reviews of Skyward Sword claim that it is pretty awesome. IGN has given it a 10 and seem to suggest it may be the best Zelda ever. I’ll be the judge of that (

)...but nice to hear that kind of praise since I was not too crazy about Twilight Princess..or the recent DS games.

So many good games coming out this holiday season, and I don’t really have the time right now for any of them, but the nintendork in me will probably force me to get this on release. Maybe even pre-order the LE w/ that snazzy gold wiimote.

I'm surprised to hear that. I played it last month and the controls were god awful. I even re-calibrated the wiimote and reset the console.

Here's IGN's Video Review. Really gonna ruffle some feathers when you say it's better then OOT, but for me my favorite will always be Link to The Past.

I'm glad I went for the special edition that comes with the soundtrack and Wii Motion Plus, it gives me an excuse to get one. I'm also glad I've kept away from seeing a lot of footage or reading anything about it. Sounds like it's going to be really good.

Most reviewers are giving 10/10 or perfect scores to all kinds of games these days...waaaaayyyyy too easily; not saying this game doesn't necessarily deserve it, just a cometary on reviewing in general these days.

I'm getting this one albeit reluctantly, maybe because I miss the Zeldas' of yesteryear like A Link to the Past, but mostly because I'm really getting tired of not being given the option to use a standard NON-MOTION CONTROLLED control scheme. I get my work out when I go for a run, I would prefer to play the game in the style of the older Zelda games and focus exclusively on the story and puzzles.

I was thinking about it a while ago and I realized I hadn't truly enjoyed a Zelda game in many, many years. I haven't really enjoyed a Mario game either. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of their quality or whether I've just grown out of 'em. (I suspect it's the latter.)

Either way I won't bother with this for a long time I think. Nintendo games take too long to get cheap, and I'm not going to pay full price for this.

Mario & zelda have become repetitive to no end.... it seems nintendo intend on milking them until the VERY LAST DROP.....
And yeah who still read/watch reviews 10/10 does that mean this game have NO flaw? I feel like the grumpy old man: Get off my lawn!!!

Unfortunatly this game, as ninny said, is not going to get cheaper anytime soon so maybe i will get to play it in a couple of years or so....

Yeah, post 16-bit Zelda games have become very formulaic and stale. I'd say the only ones I truly enjoyed were Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker.....but I lost interest in Majoras Mask, Minish Cap, the DS games and Twilight Princess....I never could find the motivation to finish any of them. But supposedly Skyward Sword does shake things up abit...not only in regards to the controls...but also in the approach to problem solving and the dungeon formats.

Despite the hype, I'm not expecting anything revolutionary....but I am hoping that this will be a fresh entry to the series thats better than the last few releases.

Ocarina is great and everything, but Link to the Past is phenomenal. It's always been my favorite.

if anything, each zelda game is designed to be My First Zelda to some youngster. and i've got nothing against that. but what is up with adults looking forward to this? it's the same, each game. move on already.

Theres a lot more to zelda then that. Some people like playing a verry similar game with a differnt story so i see nothing rong with it. I happen to love zelda while some arn't my all time favorite its still a good series. They all seem the same but each title has something that makes it differnt from the last while have yet similar game play in them all.

A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess are the most similar of any games in the series but beyond those there is actually quite a bit of difference between any two Zelda games. Adventure of Link, Four Swords, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Spirit Tracks, and Oracle of Ages are all very unique titles. They're obviously tied together by the swordplay and dungeons, but that's like saying all Mario games are the same because they all have jumping and platforms.

I have played every game in the series and I continue to look forward to new entires because of the clever dungeon and puzzle design. When I play a Zelda game I feel like great care was given to every aspect of the game rather than the current standard of lazy, paint-by-the-numbers yearly sequels (Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Madden, etc). The devil is in the details and that's what Nintendo is best at.

Exactly how I feel. At least about Mario anyway.
I welcome each Zelda game being different. I'm less interested in the characters (they're pretty much one-dimensional anyway) as I am the adventure so it gets a pass.

This is exactly the same as me. I specifically have avoided reviews for this title.

Zelda games are like endless pits for me. The games are so full of content that I just lose myself in them completely. I'm looking forward to this one specifically because I want to see what Nintendo, a company I've lost most of my faith in, can still deliver the goods.

And I want to see it without having any preconceived notions created by review sites.

I mean, it's Zelda. IMO, the most consistently excellent series, game to game, ever made. Of course it'll be a good game. But will it be for me? We're gonna find out, golden controller and all

Thematically, they're similar. That's it. You're on a quest to stop Gannon. There are dungeons, a girl named Zelda some castles and towns and some weird side quests.

But they're different dungeons, different puzzles, different level designs. They wear the same green tunic and stocking cap, but they're mostly different games from one another.

Siding with Famicommander on this one because he is right.

I'm really interested in this game, loved the series since it's inception. Alas, no Wii in my household, but I'll borrow one and the game from my sister once she's completed it.

That said, I still despise motion controls (I played Twilight Princess on the GC)
