Going back and playing them now, Turtles in Time is the superior game. Simpsons has cheaper sound, smaller characters, and the animation and collision simply make it less fun to hit enemies. It has its own bright spots though, like the huge bosses and team attacks.

It's still fun. Very few of the older beat-em-ups are actually any good today (or at least good for more than a 15 min romp, or a play through once a year), but Simpsons is a fun game especially if you have friends over and can go multiplayer. These game require people in the same room as you. I don't even think I'll use online multiplayer more than once or twice with people from here if/when it first comes out anyway ;)

Konami, seriously though....Sunset Riders...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RELEASE SUNSET RIDERS ON PSN/XBLA

It was rumored that Konami was going to bring Sunset Riders to Microsoft Game Room, but we see how well that did. Plus, even if they did bring it to Game Room you couldn't do online multiplayer, so what's the point?

I think most are still a blast today, but I agree you really need people in the same room. These 4-player ones especially are social games. It also helps to have people you enjoy drinking and talking with while playing.

The beat-em-up I want most, and one I still think is the best example of the genre, is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. It's such a painfully ignored title. I love that game, but know the chances of Capcom reviving it, due to licensing, is slim to none. Hey, who knows. Stranger things have happened... and if the Simpsons gets released, it gives hope that there is interest in reviving these old licensed products. Hell, the work is mostly done. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to renew a license here or there. It all comes down to... will enough people buy it to make it worth the trouble. Hell, having the Punisher would be great too, for similar reasons. I guess that and the Simpsons has a bigger fan base. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs plays like a dream, though :( Oh well, there's always MAME.

Looks like it's almost true. The achievements for the game popped up online and just like X-Men it looks like Konami is going to include both English (Worldwide) and the Japanese version. The Japanese version has extra items like Nuke Bombs that clear the screen and you can get more energy from fruit. Lets hope this sells well so Konami can finally release Sunset Riders and maybe Capcom will get up off their ass and give us Captain Commando and maybe Battle Circuit.

If it wasn't the first arcade game I ever played, it was certainly the first I remembered! The Simpsons was a very enjoyable beat 'em up and even better multiplayer! :buttrock:

I remember beating this game with my friends at Magic Mountain back in like 96. That was a hell of an achievement for us. So many quarters.

I hope this inspires Capcom to attempt to get The Punisher and AvP on XBL/PSN. If Konami shows there is a market for these rereleases, maybe Capcom will take a hint.

maybe if they weren't cheapasses and decided to dole out some cash to reuse the licenses. The Punisher is definitely a top 10 beat'em up.

Yes, the punisher would be a guaranteed buy from me. One of the best beat'em ups I've ever played.

I just played through the Turtles in Time rerelease and I didnt like the 3d models.
The gameplay was the same, but the nostalgia is lost.

Let's hope they dont try that with simpsons.

That's where the reviewers got it wrong. The gameplay is NOT the same. That new one doesn't feel the same and takes much longer to finish. Rather than blame the old gameplay they should have blamed Ubisoft for saddling their Singapore development house with a project that could never live up to its pedigree.

I'm very psyched for this release. Big thank you to Konami for listening to the fans on this one. If it's true that they did a poll to find this title, then things definitely are changing at the big K. Here's hoping it sells well and they start porting some of the other arcade classics in their arsenal.

I hate to toot my own horn, but when I reviewed TMNT Reshelled I pointed out how the controls were even worse then the arcade game. They took out the "Hover and Attack" that was useful for fighting Krang at the end. The game was even easier that they made the power attack one button. You can beat the game just mashing that button with Michelangelo. What I wanted to see was the improvements made to the combat that the SNES version had, along with the extra added stages and have it with four player support and the arcade graphics and music. That would have been amazing if they could have done that. Instead it felt like they did it in a rush for a quick cash grab. It was a huge letdown. Hopefully they can work out an agreement to get the SNES or Arcade version ported.

The Simpsons Arcade Game wasn’t exactly high-brow, but it was still good fun. One of my funnier memories is of driving to a local cinema just to run to the arcade and do a playthrough with my friend who never got to finish it when he was a kid. Good times.
