it's easy to see why Treasure was formed, what with Konami doing a whole lot of licensed games that stifled the creativity of the individual game developers. This Simpsons game I imagine being a reason - this game was made so early in the show's lifecycle it seems Konami was grasping at straws to come up with enemy/boss ideas. That bear from that one outdoors episode? Yeah, make him a boss!

Cool game, but it's funny looking at it in retrospect.

The Simpsons arcade game was an odd thing for me. It came out during the fighting game craze, and I was in the thick of it. I had no desire to shove a quarter in something that wasn't a fighting game. It was always something that was in demo mode while I was playing a Neo Geo sitting right next to it. I sat down and actually played it years later, and I was bored to tears. Makes me wonder if the many people who love the game do so because they think it's genuinely fun, or if it's just a whole nostalgia thing.

I remember playing it at Space Plex (Look that one up) when it first came out. I was playing a game and I saw a guy in a suit behind me talking to another guy saying how they just got the game in and how they had to empty the tokens out of it twice. The game was insanely popular when it first came out. I remember having to play as Lisa because everybody else hogged Homer and Bart. I loved how they had the team up attacks for every member of the family. Of course the best ones are always, Homer/Marge and Lisa/Bart because you can just plow into everybody. Never really found the piggyback ride one useful.

I'll agree with Lonesage. They did some good work coming up with enemies for the game since the show was so early in it's life. It's hard to think of what the game would be like if it was made few years later because of all the characters to choose from. I can tell it's early because Smithers is that weird brown color and also before he became gay. I also liked how they had the pro wrestler that you only saw on TV as the first boss and I loved Mr. Burns' final robot form. Really reminded me a lot of Robocop 2. I was kinda surprised that they didn't have Sideshow Bob as a villain, its weird to see him as a helper character like Millhouse.

I liked the Simpsons Arcade game back in the day, but playing some of these arcade classics now, I can't help but feel something is missing.
When that X-Men arcade game came out on PSN, I got it that same day and played it with a friend. After a short while, we passed it, and never touched it again.
It then hit me, back in the day, the most important thing was making that quarter ($.50, or $1) last as long as possible.
When these games are brought back from the dead, they include unlimited continues which pretty much kills all the suspense.
You can say, "Why not just start over if you get a Game Over?". The thing is, the penalty isn't as severe as it used to be.
Maybe I should stop rambling now. I'm really glad to hear The Simpsons Arcade game will return and I'm most likely to get it day one (if it shows up on PSN).

That is why its still fun playing games on a cab. Slap down 2-3 coins on the CP and see how far you can get. Using the real hardware and physically inserting the coins helps to bring back some of that feel.

I know what you mean though. I was at gameworks last year and felt myself getting a bit bored. Razing Storm was fun but I knew I had 3 hours to kill and was going to beat it, that thrill of making that dollar really last wasn't there.

anyone who really wanted to play this game did so on MAME.
They would be better releasing a Konami collection with TMNT's and Simpsons.

I always wondered why Konami quit making these kind of games.

Nostalgia aside, the game has aged terribly due to the simple control mechanics. Vendetta is leagues ahead of it and from the same developer.

Day one purchase if it's true if only for nostalgia purposes.

Simpson's Arcade would be a day one purchase for me if it makes it to Live. I played it recently before seeing a movie, and it was still fun. Not a great game, but a ton of fun multiplayer. Was playing with strangers and having a blast. That doesn't happen too often anymore. Day one.

Hope this rumor is true. It would be fun to play this game again (I never really played it on MAME). Also, it's definitely a day one purchase for me too.

Nowadays you probably can't easily find three other people to play with. TMNT was the first arcade game that I've 1cc'd. I just memorize the pizza locations and let the other three deal with bosses. Can't do that on 1 player solo, or even 2 players though. XD

I bought Xmen when it hit PSN. Its good fun with some friends for the 15 minutes it lasts. You then put it down and can leave it a lone for another couple months.

I'll likely get this one as well. Just a fun nostalgic romp with 0 expectations.

Konami, seriously though....Sunset Riders...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RELEASE SUNSET RIDERS ON PSN/XBLA

well, interesting - remember when we found out the jap ver of X-Men was different?
well, so is the simpsons apparently, thanks wikipedia!

The Japanese version of the game included small scale nuclear bombs that, when thrown, clear all on-screen enemies, as well as a life bar that can be doubled by eating food when your character's health was full.

My brothers and I loved the game when we were young. It came out at the perfect time for us. We saw the game for the first time at the State Fair and immediately begged the parents to play it. They didn't give us long enough to get our fill, so we begged them to take us to a Circus arcade on the way home, which fortunately also had the game. Of course, after that, it became an endless quest to have that game. Finally we have the board these days. To be honest, I'll feel slightly less awesome when our board is no longer the only way to play it and people have long since quit playing it online. But good for them for finally getting this one back out there after so much demand.

I hope this inspires Capcom to attempt to get The Punisher and AvP on XBL/PSN. If Konami shows there is a market for these rereleases, maybe Capcom will take a hint.

So many Capcom releases are ripe for the FinalFightDblimpct treatment.

CPS collection, anyone?

I liked the double team moves. Homer & Marge rolling up into a ball and knocking away multiple enemies. Bart/Lisa on top of Homer's shoulders etc.
Can't remember who controls the characters in this scenarios but I liked the idea.
