Sounds like if this was a vote, the top two would be Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. Can't argue with that.

I'm surprised no one other than me mentioned Treme though. For my money, that show is the best of the best. There's nothing else like it on TV. It's pretty amazing.

Breaking Bad is a very interesting show, I catch it when I can. Top Gear UK constantly delivers, fucking Top Gear US is an embarrassment. Sunny this season is doing good so far, better than last season. My wife started watching 2 broke girls so I'm forced to watch it, it has potential and I like the adult tone jokes on the show.

I've honestly never heard of Treme. I was going to get rid of HBO now that the wife is done with True Blood for the year. I ended up adding Showtime for Dexter and keeping HBO so I can catch up on Game of Thrones. I guess I'll check out Treme too! Thanks.

Top Gear and Doctor Who on ye olde BBC America and except for the occasional sports, not much else to watch on TV on a consistant basis for me.

Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and South Park (even though some episodes aren't that great). Boardwalk Empire is pretty good.
I do hope The Walking Dead turn things around. The premier was amazing, then the show took a nosedive (heard some writers were fired because of that).
Need to see Louie and Sons of Anarchy.

a bunch of mine were taken:

top gear uk, breaking bad, south park, dexter, walking dead (hopefully).

also great shows not mentioned yet: the league, 30 rock, community.

Potential new ones: terra nova, pan am.

Community is close to being the worst show I've ever seen. I watched a couple episodes from a recommendation. I saw 3 more -- THREE -- against my will, flying to and from Italy this past summer. All five episodes I've seen were fucking dire. The writing is terrible. The characters are awful. The only thing the show has going for it, imo, is that it's nice to see Chevy Chase appear again in something that some people like. Even if those people are fucking nuts with no sense of discrimination.

Who says you can't like it? Not me. There always has to be a lowest common denominator. No shame in that. It's all part of life's rich tapestry. So you should just watch what makes you happy. If that's Community, go for it.

But if I did need a reason: maybe it's a chemical imbalance.

Aside from the local evening news, I pretty much don't bother watching anything else on tv, since none are more interesting than playing games. XD

Vanguard is the best show in TV.

The network channels suck. I stopped watching the Office when Pam got pregnant. The writers took the easy way out and focused on Pam and Jim's relationship rather than all the other interesting characters.

Sunny is great but I'm getting sick of it.

I've been lolling at Terra Nova. Sci Fi just doesn't work on TV unless your target audience is camp fans. Even drama rarely works out right.

AMC has this monopolized for me. Top three are Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Walking Dead. Dexter and Parks & Recreation round out the Top 5.

Without question Breaking Bad is at the top of the heap. The for me it's...

Community - It's long since stopped trying to be conventional and just does zany shit purely to do it. I keep waiting for the cancellation notice but will watch it as long as it's on. Pure simple stuff. It knows and revels in it.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Consistently good. Can't wait to see what other stories they bring in for Fat Mac.
Modern Family - Only got into this for Ed O' Neill and actually enjoy it. Pretty typical sitcom stuff but well done for what it is.
South Park - Never gets old (even if it can miss the mark)
Walking Dead - Can we kill the partner already? Otherwise great.
Louie - You can't go in there. "Why?" You're father's dead. *smirk* "What was THAT?!?"

If you like The Wire, you'll like Treme. It can be a bit hard to get into (like The Wire), but once you get to know the characters, it's the best show in TV bar none. Starting at the beginning is pretty essential, by the way, so make sure you rent/steal/borrow/whatever season 1 first.

If I were going to add a couple to my list, I'd go with Boardwalk Empire, Louie, and Bored to Death. Yeah, I'm an HBO whore. What of it. ;)

I've only seen a couple episodes of Bored to Death. I love the premise; the execution is kind of middle of the road. At least in the two I saw. I didn't hate it by any means (it's no Community), but with the premise and cast, I wanted it to be better than it was. On the other hand, the two episodes I saw were both first season, so maybe they've found their footing now.

Some episodes are funnier than others, but I've never seen what I'd call a bad one watching that show.

I mean, come on. A mega-high Ted Danson isn't enough for you? Guess there's no pleasing some people.

P.S. Community is awesome.

Again with the no reading. Did I say I watched a bad one? No.

You didn't say it was bad, but you sounded pretty lukewarm about it. So I wasn't arguing with what I said in that quote, you crotchety old bastard. Just reasserting my own opinion. Take it for what it is (or don't, whatever).

Lots of good choices, I want to throw my hat in the ring for The Venture Brothers. They've been getting better as the years go on and I can't wait for the next season. It takes them a while, but it's so worth it when they finally finish.

Already? They're like one episode in! Looks like someone is pretty easy to win over. :)

Oh yeah, good choice. That show does indeed have a rare wit, and I applaud their willingness to take chances and mess with the show's established status quo. I wish more shows had those kind of balls.
