"Arrested Development" might be making its way back to the small screen in preparation for the film adaption of the low-rated but cult favorite television series.

Mitchell Hurwitz, who created the series, reportedly told attendees of the show's panel at The New Yorker Festival on Sunday that he's working on writing another season of the series, according to The New York Times.

The event reunited the show's entire cast, along with Hurwitz, and the writer said the new television episodes would serve as sort of a prologue to the film. Each episode will center on a member of the Bluth clan, updating viewers on what the family member has been up to since the series ended.

However, according to Hurwitz, the idea is still up in the air, as the plans for the film have yet to be solidified.

"We don't completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing," Hurwitz said about working on the film, according to the newspaper. "Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story. In fact, where everyone's been for five years became a big part of the story."

He added, "So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together."

The possible series would run "9 or 10" episodes, with the first focusing on Buster Bluth, played by Tony Hale. Hurwitz said the project of a film and television series, "requires studios to work together that don't typically work together, film and TV."

The sitcom featured the dysfunctional, formerly wealthy Bluth family as they try to maintain a lavish lifestyle without the means they used to have before the patriarch of the family got busted for suspicious accounting deals. The show starred Jeffrey Tambor as George Bluth Sr., Jessica Walter as his wife Lucile Bluth, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Hale as their sons, Michael, Gob and Buster Bluth and Portia de Rossi as their sister Lindsay.

Michael Cera played Michael Bluth's teenage son, George Michael and David Cross played Lindsay's husband Tobias while Alia Shawkat played the couple's daughter Maeby.

The series lasted three seasons on Fox from 2003 to 2006.

Jason Bateman Tweeted about the news on Sunday, writing, "It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!"

If this actually happens, it better be awesome.

Guess that is a good enough reason to pick up
the original three seasons.
I always liked it but I don't think I saw the last few shows.

Awesome news. I'm a bit skeptical that it's either not gonna happen or the quality won't be up to par, but this is still a reason to be cheerful.

Yeah, I'm skeptical too. That's why I added the question mark :lolz:. After years of saying there would be a movie, it still hasn't happened, so I figure it will play out the same. Either way, I'm OK with it. I do think it's being hyped up a bit too much. Like someone said, it has to be picked up first. There's a big difference between writing a show and actually making a show.

Lot of teasing and talking and no actual product when it comes to an Arrested Development movie.

I'll believe it when I see it

If FOX doesn't pick it back up, Comedy Central seems like a good candidate.

It has such a cult following now, seems like easy money to pay for the rights to another season and a film.

If Fox doesn't pick it up? Fox hasn't had a good tv show in years. Then again, they send all their good stuff to FX.

Personally, I would prefer a show dedicated to Bob Loblaw.

tv movie...maybe.
but too much time has passed to bring back the show. Michael Cera almost looks like an adult.

Very true. Should have been more specific. I haven't watched anything on FOX in forever. FX has some quality stuff though.

Interesting that it's going to be exclusive to Netflix. Works for me because I rarely watch live television any more.

Why can't we all just be happy with the 50+ episodes we already have?

Go watch some new episodes of Archer instead to help support a show that is actually being made.

If we cross our fingers Futurama will be cancelled any day now.

What a train wreck
