a la Home Depot. I took a chunk of my 6-slot's front panel in (it had chipped off anyway).

Colorant OZ 48 96
KX White 0 2 0
R Exterior RE 3 36 1
U Magenta 0 8 1

It looks pink going on, but dries the correct color. A quart set me back $8.50

Very intersting... this should be logged at Hard MVS maybe?

Aweseome, thanks for posting that info. If it matches well with the red on my cab I'll post it. I should think that all cabinet should be the same, but you never know. Of course there's sunfading and the like as well...

Sweet! I just got a 2 slot cabinet that's got a few dings in it. Plus, I didn't realize until I got it at my house that it had been re-painted. The "red" they used is more orange. They masked the original MVS artwork on the sides, including some of the original red around the letters. *sigh*

So, you got the color right. What kind of actual paint did you use? How did you apply it?

I considered that it might not match the sides due to sunfading, discolouration, etc. but didn't have any issues with it. Blended right in on both sides and front. Unless I knew, I wouldn't even know I'd even applied it.

I'll see about taking a pic of the can tomorrow. I believe the name was "Gideon" or something. Home Depot girl said it was the easier one to apply.

As for putting it on, just used a new brush. I spread it thin and used a couple coats.

Before this goes on HardMVS, someone else who's doing this should take a sample into a shop and see if the results are the same.

I don't paint much..

I wonder if painting this mix over Black paint will have the same desired effect.

In other words :D if I paint this mix over black paint will it look just like the red sides...?

Bump need some help as I'm trying to get a quart of this paint made. He asked which base I need, it seemed like he had a choice of 3, said it would determine how light or dark the paint is.

If you have the original sticker on the paint can you can find out. Hopefully I can get this finished up so I can do some touch up paint work with before and after pictures.

Does anyone have a template for the 6-slot cabinet sidemarkings? I really don't want to put decals on the side.

Well I got the paint mixed up. I used a satin base and it matches really well. As it dries its blending in more and more on the side you cant even see the drill marks any more. If anyone wants to get this mixed up I used Glidden Evermore paint. This really needs to be logged somewhere.

Keep in mind this is an intermediate step. I still need to figure out a good way to blend from the paint to the rest of the cab since these spots had been sanded when the wood putty was applied. I am pretty sure I can blend with a rag a little rubbing but initially it looks really well. Also in person it blends all ready alot better. My camera tends to show every detail.

:up:Over due bump.

So what is the base that is needed for this "official" red???

The guy @ Home Depot wouldn't do the color match until he knew what the base is supposed to be. I had a quart of Glidden satin paint but I still need to know which base is it? Base 1,2 or 3? Interior or exterior paint?

*bump again*

Need base and finish... finish I'm guessing is a semi-gloss? Not sure what to use for a base tho.

Went down to Home Depot and bought a quart with these specs. Applied a dab onto a test piece. So far it looks pretty good. We'll see how this looks in 30 minutes.

There have been more recent threads than this. I hope it comes out well. :)

Well after about three coats I can say without a doubt the paint colors provided by chemical are a perfect match. I'm not painting over the whole thing, just touching up a few spots. The new paint matches up with the old paint perfectly.

Though take my advice, use a nice roller instead of a paint brush. Tried using a paint brush the first coat and it came out with some noticeable strokes. I even had a really nice one I use for a lot of other projects. For whatever reason the side of the cab didn't take well to the paint with a brush, but a nice roller did the trick.
