Has anyone adjusted a horizontal width coil on an arcade.

Assuming you have a WG 25k719 monitor in your cab, it looks like you need to first adjust the horizontal width coil, and the h-pos pot after.

First you're going to need an alignment / adjusting tool, plastic, non-conductive. DO NOT use an steel hex key, it will wreck the ferrite core of the coil (unless you're *very* careful with the game off, or have the ability to replace the coil). http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062757

You can make the adjustment with the monitor off so you feel more comfortable (but still be aware, high voltage components will hold a charge after being powered, so be careful, but not fearful.)

Smaller width = Turn coil clockwise

Then on the neckboard or remote adjustment board, is the h-pos pot, which can be used to center the picture. Also make sure the plastic bezel is where it should be, so it's not clipping any picture.

Also, sometimes width coils are glued in position. I've had to use a heat gun to 'loosen' them before. Just becareful with the force you use.

If you use a metal allen key while the machine is running you WILL burn yourself.

also, if your core is already cracked or crumbled, you will need to replace it. Bob Roberts has parts for many crt's and is a great business to work with! keep in mind that you'll only get about 1/2 inch of movement on your image by adjusting that coil.

here is a decent reference:

preventative maintenance on these old WG crt's is key to a long life! :)

Thanks for everyone's input, I called Radio Shack about getting some TV alignment tools today and I don't know if he did not understand me or what, but he told me they could not get any. I found some from Happ Control for $10 plus shipping. I plan on ordering some within the week, after I go look for some in person. I did have to adjust my brightness and contrast when I bought the machine. I only pray this will be as half as easy. I will probably start with a 1/4 turn clockwise I would guess my image is 1/2 to big inch maybe here are some pics.

Sorry for posting here, but for some reason I cannot post a new thread even though I am registered (I tried to contact the site admin about this).

I recently purchased my first Neo Geo cab MVS-4-25, and although it is proving to be a fun time, there are some issues with the monitor that are really bugging me:

1) the vertical alignment of the screen seems to be off - it is pushed up a bit such that you cannot see about a 1/3 of an inch of the top of the screen (status bars are cut off in fighters, etc.). I tried adjusting this on the pots on the pcb underneath the joysticks, but to no avail. I tried adjusting various pots on the monitor chassis itself - it seemed to correct the problem, but once powered down the machine and powered it back on again it went back to the previous state.

2) there is a lot of noise coming from the monitor itself, especially when playing from slots 3 and 4. It seems to be a grounding issue... I looked in the back of the cab for any loose grounds and made sure they were connected, but it still didn't correct the problem. I am not entirely sure what I am doing, so I didn't try to muck around too much in there...

If anyone has suggestions, let me know! Thanks.

problem 2) is solved. turned out to be the lights behind the marquee causing the high-pitched noise. still dealing with problem 1); referencing the test screen above, the top green colored bar is cut-off and somewhat distorted. Also, like the user above, the horizontal width on my monitor exhibits similar behavior...

Also curious to know: how can I easily ID the monitor type without removing it from the chassis? Probably would help to know which one I am working with...

I am still waiting to get some alignment tools to try adjusting my width coil, Happs has a $25 minimum order and the only other ones I can find are $20 from Canada on E bay.
