Gay rights protester dumps glitter on Newt Gingrich

Could Newt Gingrich's week get any worse?
Just days into his 2012 presidential bid, the former House speaker has been under fire this week from fellow Republicans for trashing Rep. Paul Ryan's proposal on Medicare during his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday--criticism that forced Gingrich to apologize.
On Monday, an Iowa voter was caught on camera griping him out. And Tuesday, it was revealed that Gingrich at one point owed at least $250,000 to Tiffany's—an embarrassing detail that could potentially come back to haunt the self-described fiscal conservative's 2012 bid.
Last night, Gingrich suffered yet another indignity, when a gay rights protester dumped a box of glitter on him and his wife, Callista, at a conservative fundraiser in Minneapolis.
The Gingriches were signing books ahead of their appearance at fund-raising dinner for the Minneapolis Family Council, a conservative group that has lobbied against gay rights and same sex marriage.
"Feel the rainbow, Newt," the protestor said, as he poured a box of glitter over the former speaker's head. "Stop the hate. Stop anti-gay politics. It's dividing our country, and it's not fixing our economy."
You can watch the video of the clash here, via the Associated Press:

I remember reading about this… too awesome.
The People have gotten over their fear barrier now, realizing that they can be both agitational and non-violent.

We can demand accountability from all politicians and notables in the public eye with more creative demonstrations like these.

Yeah, I agree...

I once went to a Crisis concert...

And at the end, the lead singer dumped glitter all over the crowd. I found that stuff all over the place for at least a week.

Newt talking about "sanctity of marriage" is some glitter worthy shit.

Dude cheated on both his former wives, one affair was going on at the time he was raising hell towards Clinton over his cheating ways.

If Newt would've gotten up and punched that guy, he'd have my respect. I have absolutely no love for childish and potentially dangerous stunts like these, no matter who it's happening to.

If someone threw a pie at Obama and he quickly jumped up and kicked them in the gut, I'd say kudos to the president.

[Reagan video]

I remember watching that on the news when it happened (I believe this was also after he left office) --that video's title is misleading because they guy never intended to hurt Reagan, he just smashed the award (which was a good distance away) and wanted to start speaking on the mic. He was stupid, but he wasn't trying to hurt Reagan.

I prefer this glitter thing to the pie throwing.

Proportionate response? "OMG! Newt could've caught THE GAY from the glitter!"

I know… I don't like to generalize caricatures, but Zenimus brought this onto himself, single-handedly setting back people's perception of conservatives.

What in the world are you guys talking about? This has nothing to do with a person's political alignment. If someone blasted Jimmy Carter with a canister of cheese whiz I'd say the same thing. Any time someone approaches someone else and proceeds to reach into their bag for something to attack them with, it's a potentially dangerous situation.

Beyond that, it's a pitifully childish way to get your point across. "Hur hur, I throwed crap on that guy! That'll show 'im!"

Sometimes you come off as the most anti-American member on the site.

A guy protests against political dubiousness and your reaction is to call him a douche. You're about as useful as the faggot who calls people whiners when they complain about shit that needs to be changed.

I hope he finds glitter in his clothes ten years from now.

Personally I would have used the larger cut glitter. It's more colorful.

I'll take being called Anti-American as a compliment.

There is nothing wrong with protest. I'm all for it.

But throwing glitter in someone's face?

Grow the fuck up
. Seriously. Come up with something actually humorous to get your point across. Not just some crude slapstick comedy with a bullshit tagline.

Dude was probably hoping Newt would punch him so he could sue him.

Either way fuck Newt and fuck the Glitter dude. Maybe they'll fuck each other. I don't care.

Simple vocal protest has no effect on Newt. It has no effect on a lot of people. The glitter won't have an effect on him either. But it will have an effect on the people who push him forward. They're obviously talking about this too. Think they would talk about it if it was just some dude holding a sign up? No. But they're talking now, and they're talking about his message that anti-gay sentiment is dividing the nation and not fixing any of the problems. As such, he has succeeded. However many people here seem to be too daft to get that point, and only see things at face value.
