as summer is closing in, baseball season is looming, and ball park food comes out in stores, as well as big bags of charcoal, cans of lighter fluid, and stick lighters show up en masse. a question comes to mind. i bought some hot dogs yesterday in aldi which just aren't the same as a good american frank. but they fill a hole for now anyways. but now i wanna know. how do you guys like your dogs? me personally i don't like to be fancy, fanciest i might go is chili, cheese, and onion on a dog. but 9 times out of 10 i'll choose cheap-o french's mustard, and a nice layer of dill pickle relish, piled onto a lovely hebrew national dog.

i love that combination, and the crap dogs i got yesterday have nothing on em. especially when the casing gets a bit burnt and crispy and that mustard covers every bite, i gotta tell you i turn into a fat kid in a cake store's going out of business sale. and that hot dog doesn't survive for long at all. so yeah, it might sound like a stupid thread but how do you guys like your franks?

Maybe its just because I've been born and raised in the USA, where hot dogs are everywhere to be found and never really seen as something to which to "look forward," but MAAAAAAN, the idea of hot dogs most of the time just kinda grosses me out. No question: There's really good kinds of hot dogs and really bad kinds of hot dogs to be purchased in the United States, but when I hear...

...I kinda don't know where you're coming-from, because hot dogs all-too-often mean Barf City in most places 'round here, save for going to a dedicated wiener restaurant. Resultantly, I normally err toward sausages like Brautwurst, Bokwurst, or Kielbasa instead of a normal "hot dog."

I stick with Kogel brand franks. Them's delicious.

I like ketchup, mustard, onion, and relish on mine. Chili dogs are good too. Or fancy stuff. Hell, practically anything tastes good on a hot dog.

You ever get one with sourkraut, Russian dressing, and cheese? A hot dog place here used to do that. They called it a Rueban Dog.

Damn tasty.

They also had a Slaw Dog, where they cover the frank with bbq sauce and put cole slaw on top. :drool_2:

This is making me hungry.

is this italian coleslaw with all the vinegar and black pepper in it? or that awful mayo based crap they call coleslaw in the south?

the reuben dog though, sounds like my kinda thing. i remember last time i visited my stepdad's family in alabama, we took a road trip to atlanta to see the rest of his family. and the varsity did an amazing chili dog. fake cheese on good chili, with onions, and a bit of mustard. classic combo. i now want a real dog and not the crap euro trash ones i got yesterday. just had a hankering for a hot dog and they were there.

I like ketchup...

Ohhh boy. Hardcore hotdog aficionados would hang you from the nearest tree for saying this.
:lolz:

Personally I like to keep it simple. Mustard and some shredded cheese. I grew up eating sauce on hotdogs, but haven't had one that way in probably 10 years or so.

Oh, and before anyone comments, while I might live in the Cincinnati area, that doesn't mean I like the putrid mess that they refer to as Cincinnati chili on my dogs. I dunno what the hell people around here see in that garbage. They even put it on pasta!! :oh_no:

Depends. Sometimes I prefer the simple bun + dog + ketchup variant but most of the time, I like my dogs with a bit of ketchup, roasted onions, Danish mayonaise and a few pieces of pickled gherkins (preferably Spreewald gherkins). This variant is called Danish Dogs over here.

And if no dogs, me eat Khlav Kalash and drink crab juice lots.

I'm very specific about my dog when I make it myself. Ketchup along the sides, mustard zig-zag down the middle, chopped raw onion and tomato on top.

Anyone had a Sonic hotdog? I rarely eat fast food but from the ads I've seen, I've been wanting to try one.

I've gotten their footlong chili dog a few times. Pretty good.

i've gotten a distinct rubbery taste off their dogs, but they're nice from time to time. especially if you get em to put some mustard on under the chili. that really makes it good. it makes for a kinda tangy, tasty surprise amongst the chili.

I'm eyeballing that Chicago Dog specifically. Looks like a hotdog with a salad on top. Crazy.

The Chicago dog is the epitome of "everything but the kitchen sink".

Need more discussion on the good brands of Dogs. I don't care how you eat your dog....

looks like all posts were lost from about 8AM PST onward. My other posts today elsewhere in the forum are gone too. What happened?

Might be because of the move. Hopefully it won't happen again. Here's kinda what I said in the post I did before.

I like my dogs plain, nothing on em'. Call me crazy. I like a good dog or sausage and not a salad on top. It's funny how I saw this thread because a day ago I was reading the food section of the paper and they had an article on a German Pork Store. I really got to hit them up before the 4th and get some Brats and Dogs for the BBQ. There was one Italian Market by me that used to sell Kobe Beef Hot Dogs and they were amazing, but nobody bought them so they stopped selling them.
