New season began this week.


Take one part iPad/Apple skewering, a surprising commitment to reenacting elements from the Human Centipede, and Cartman being gleefully annoying to his mom and you have a surprisingly good opening episode for season 15. I've often found the season/mid-season openers to be a disappointment, but I really liked this one. Disturbing, disgusting, hilarious.

I thought the past season was pretty boring.

As I have gotten older, I have come to really like Gerald and Randy as characters.

wasn't finding it too funny until the "Quickening" scene which i then promptly exploded into laughter

Oh man, it was so crazy, I couldn't help but laugh and cringe at the same time! My dad had to explain to my brother and I that the whole "Human Centipede" is apparently a real movie!

Definitely. Randy has been a favorite character of mine on there for quite a few seasons now.

Though, not a very good movie. Worth watching if you're into weird shit (I am!), but ultimately pretty boring.

I couldn't imagine my own dad being the one to explain that reference to me... your dad is waaay more pop culture savvy :D

No kidding. My dad's pop culture references stop at around 1984. Dude doesn't even use a computer except for office work, and even then he does that under protest. I can't fathom him explaining a pop culture reference to me.

It was alright, but I wasn't too entertained with it....pop culture references both old and obscure is kinda of why I don't really give a rats ass about family guy.

One thing that DID make me LMAO was that dad kissing his son, though.

Lol! That was pretty disturbing, and I agree with everything else you said. I did get a kick out of Cartman tho.

Yeah I was kinda surprised on the quickening reference when it felt so Family Guy-ish.

Randy is easily the best character on the show and seemingly all of his episodes are instant classics.

But on the serious, I was totally unaware of that movie. How he found out about it, I don't know. Then again, he and my mom watch WAY more movies than I do.

Wasn't really into the Funnybot episode. There were a few funny moments --I liked how Chancellor Merkel had a deeper voice than anyone-- but it felt underwhelming. It seemed like there was a much bigger inside joke/message that Parker and Stone were trying to make about Comedy Central's own "First Annual Comedy Awards" at the expense of making it entertaining. Honestly, I don't even pay attention to what's on Comedy Central other than South Park and occasionally the Daily Show.

I am curious as to the accuracy of Cartman's German in that one scene.

That shit was horrible. Straight up.

The Dalekish robot and Tyler Perry didn't do anything to help it.

The whole thing really just fell flat on it's face.

They were waaay to focused on the Comedy Awards. You're absolutely right, the Perry stuff was barely funny (I did like that Token just handed him money).

One commentator pointed out the connection with reality:
Not only was the whole endeavor shamelessly self-serving in its favoring of Comedy Central shows—as Trey Parker and Matt Stone said when South Park won for Best Animated Series, it’s a lot like “being Student of the Month when your mom’s the teacher”—there’s an inherent paradox at play that was articulated tonight. [. . . ] You can easily imagine Parker and Stone dreaming up “Funnybot” on the drive home from that strange little ceremony, having just spent several hours trapped in a scene that, for all its mildly subversive acceptance speeches from Stephen Colbert and Louis C.K. and the chance to see Bill Murray in person, was mostly a surprisingly dull, dry circle-jerk, the kind that only leads to mass chafing.

They were just too focused on that idea, and it made the whole thing suffer. Some of their best episodes are the ones that come together really late (like the Critter Christmas).


On the plus side, I discovered this German comic who's not too bad:

Royal Pudding was a good one for sure. Its always great when Mackey loses his mind. Scott the Giant Dick was pretty good too.

I was loading last weeks but checked this thread and thought better of it. Ill watch it at some point, but Ive never seen an episode get so much hate from the ng.com crowd before.
