Yeah, I only pre-order to get Collector's Edition games (Metal Gear Solid series, Street Fighter IV, MvC3, etc).

Those are usually only available via pre-order, or else you're just taking a chance that they won't sell out by the time you can get to them. The only other reason I ever pre-order something is if I absolutely know that I'm getting it anyway, then I'll pre-order it at Play N' Trade. They give you a $5 or $10 store credit when you do it there....

I went ahead and preordered Marvel from Amazon. I wasn't gonna but I had a lot of credit from trade ins. Also, no sales tax, so I saved six bucks.

To those who preodered through Capcom, was the t-shirt, small discount, and economy shipping really worth it?

Back in the day I pre-ordered the second run of Steel Battalion from Capcom.

I'm kind of sad no other company has put out such a unique title with an off the wall awesome controller such as that.

I haven't pre-ordered a game since Mortal Kombat II on the SNES. Just to much of a hassle.

Same here, actually. That, and Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Good, albeit slightly misguided times.

This isn't meant to derail the topic, but for a while, I've taken to buying games far after their release date so the price goes down. Sure, there might be some multiplayer component that might not have as large of a "community" behind it, and the rest of the internet-connected people that picked it up will have already discussed it to hell and back on message boards and through reviews. But money is saved in the long run.

That being said, however, I'd consider getting the collector's edition of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 if the price per DLC character exceeds 5 dollars each. Capcom is playing a shrewd game by not announcing the price beforehand. But then again, any romanticism for this industry died long, long ago.

Pre-orders died with the Zelda series on the N64. Unless its some bonus item or true LE, its not worth it. Heck, its usually not worth it even then.. Theres way to many copies of everything printed now.

The only preorders I've made over the years involve imports that either come here a year later or not at all. Preordering anything else seems pointless to me.

I used to work at GS. For big releases, they tell employees to just sell all copies to walk-in customers. One email about GTA IV said (paraphrasing, but accurate) "If they don't have time to pick it up today, they don't care enough / deserve it." Any Nintendo game or any AAA release they'll did this with. It really sucks telling people, "Yeah you paid $5 (or more) for us to hold a game for you but we didn't hold it for you anyway." Dunno if they've changed since I left, but I somehow doubt it.

Games are big business now. Best Buy likely has roughly 100 copies of any new game on day one, so that's what I rely on. As for limited/collector's editions, I don't care about those at all.

But then, the only game I've purchased on day one in the last few years was Donkey Kong Country Returns and Best Buy had a seemingly endless supply of those, so maybe I don't have any perspective on this...

I currently have an NGP and a 3DS on preorder at Gamestop. :emb: I'll probably preorder Monster Hunter Freedom 3 from them too. :emb::emb:

Read the MvC3 thread, I've been ranting, and people have also been ranting on the official forums with no reply back.

This has to be one of the worst times I've had buying something online. The customer support has been terrible. When I called them at 5pm they didn't know where the order was and they couldn't cancel it because it was in process.

One of the mods on the official forums said to me why am I complaining because I used free shipping I get mine last. He says people that paid for faster shipping go first, which is bullshit. I had my order in January 3rd, so if some guy paid for next day air a week ago should go first? Turns out that's not even true. One guy said he paid for next day air never got an email. It's like there "shotgun blasting" the orders out. It's random, people that paid extra and people that got free shipping are getting emails.

I'm never using them again. Oh, and the t-shirt is a Large. Guess they haven't gone to EVO or any other fighting game tournament to see the average player would never fit into a large t-shirt.

I think we do pre-order as only for 2 reasons :

1. Cheaper prices, with limited promotional addition bonus, or something related to promotion

2. Afraid of the pre-order items instantly sold out in store just after released

so Pre-order is okay but depends on our budget and the importance of the product to us

I preorder basically any Japanese game or figure release since I can't be fucked hunting down that shit after it's been released. Of course I don't like seeing my stuff on Amazon.co.jp for half price, but it happens. It's also the cost of preordering.

American games are pretty much valueless here, everyone's worried that they won't work on their console or people want the PAL versions. They also take quite awhile, and most eBay sellers either offer Airmail shipping (which is untracked, and slow) or $30+ USD shipping.

Considering that I wouldn't even get $30 USD, unless it was a massively popular region-free title, and only if I were to sell this immediately after playing, it just isn't worthwhile.

Maybe they are trying to inspire you guys to improve yourselves. They don't want their hardcore audience all dying off due to their fat asses having heart attacks and stuff.

And as someone already pointed out, we haven't even reached the release date yet, you whiny babies. I thought I was angry for hating on the game itself, but you guys are acting like a bunch of screaming 2 year-olds laying on the ground kicking and pounding your fists. Take a look at how unimportant this situation actually is and try to calm down a little. You're going to get your game. You're going to get your too-small-for-you t-shirt. The few days wait is not going to make the difference between you being the 'first place at Evo MVC3 Superstar' and being yet another average player online. You guys are acting like you're being cheated out of a month training for the fucking Olympics. One month from now, it will have made zero difference whether you got the game today or a week later.

Actually STK, nobody knows if we're going to get or orders or not. The order comes up saying it's "in process", I've emailed asking if they had a tracking number and they can't give out one. Yeah, I know it's not the most important thing in the world right now and I'm going to have my ass handed to me even if I had a year head start. They can at least be honest and say they got swamped with too many orders and they need to iron things out. But so far nobody has spoken up and that just gets people angry. Like dangling a piece of pie at a fat kid on a treadmill.

If it's any consolation, I've ordered directly from Capcom before.

This was during the days before they had a Unity site, or any kind of branded pop-outreach. Just a store. But they were professional and cool. The order got out. It wasn't a pre-order, but I got it just the same. The sun rose. Pepsi brought back their original formula and call it "Thow Back." Save for the occasional shake-up, life's been good.

You'll get your game.

So Throwback's here to stay? I've noticed how it hasn't gone away from stores. That's good. I've cut back to only having soda on the weekends so when I do I have one Throwback and I'm good for the rest of the week.

when I got the game, and looked at all the shit that came with it, I took a step back, checked myself, and I think I grew up a little bit that day

I pre-ordered ,y copies Super Mario Allstars Wii.

I knew the game would be a bitch to find since it had almost no advertising.

My brother didn't even know it existed till the opened it up.

I only preorder if it is something I know I'm going to want (sooner or later) but I am afraid I won't be able to find it a few months after it comes out.

I don't get the point of playing shit the day it comes out. I have shrunkrap copies of Xmas presents sitting on my shelf (waiting for time to play them). Stuff I even asked for.

SMAS Wii back up on pre-order: Amazon link

Looks like the last time for those hoarders to load on this one. I was thinking of pre-ordering, but I'd rather save the $30 and rock my SNES cart.
