Affine texture mapping, nearest-neighbor filtering, and integer transforms look glorious at any resolution.

Yeah, the four pixels that make up Snakes face are going to look incredible run through some texture filters and scaled up.

Also, the free camera is the worst thing to be introduced into an MGS game. Which is why the PSP versions sucked.

My thoughts exactly ...they will HAVE to redo the graphics if they are hoping to have any success at all with this re-release

If Metal Gear Solid was redone in HD but left exactly as the original one was, meaing No Twin Snakes "revisionist" crap with different voice actors and stuff, then I'd be all for it. Basically the original game with a visual upgrade is all that's needed. No I was never a fan for the Game Cube "Twin Snakes" nor Kitamura's Matrixy stuff.

I agree that they should have left the original alone, but I still was impressed with the scene where Gray Fox is flying in the air and deflecting bullets from Metal Gear with his Katana. It still was pretty kick-ass.

I hope they don't increase the frame rate to 60 fps. I kinda loved MGS1 / MGS3 at 30 fps, but having them run at that rate steadily with no slowdowns would be nice.

Edit:

+1 for the bird view.

Also, I thought the Twin Snakes was a mixed bag in various ways. The alterations in the cut scenes and voice acting were either terrible or cool. I loved the bloody Gray Fox pre-fight scene, but most of the other altered scenes were just ass. Same could be said about the voice acting. Psycho Mantis had a better voice in Twin Snakes, but Naomi on the other hand ......

But I think the bad changes out number the good ones, so if I had to go with either versions, it's definitely the PS1 one.

This was pretty much inevitable. I half expect Gran Turismo 3 and 4 to have HD remakes as well.

Still looking forward to ICO/SotC way more, though.

Did you play Peace Walker?

I want a PS3 MGS title in the same format as it and Portable Ops.

EDIT: Peace Walker Haters!??!?! I don't understand you. The game was f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c.

i'll be giving the PSP MGS games a shot once i finish up with Dissidia (that may take a while)

Upon thinking about it, it'll be the PSX version anyways, if this set gets released. I know Twin Snakes was developed as an exclusive to the GameCube and Silicon Knights was developing only for the GC at that time. I believe Nintendo had a stake in the development of the game, as well, but I may be wrong about that.

Also, yes; fuck the Peace Walker haters. Sure, the story was dumb, but the rest of the game more than made up for it.

I liked the story - it was no more "dumb" than the other stories in the games (i'm looking at you MGS2) :vik:

Played Portable Ops all the way through. Thought it was pretty great.

The MGO portion was fun as hell.

I'd love for a HD MGS1. It would finally remove the last reason for owning a gamecube

I am pretty sure MGS is going to be at least somewhat redone graphically from the PS1. My guess is something like what was done to Perfect Dark on XBLA. Which was just right.

Honestly, the MGS2 game engine on Twin Snakes mooooore than made up for the voice acting changes. The changes in actors voices didn't bother me too much. Mei Ling's voice originally seemed a little forced considering she is American really. Naomi's voice was better originally, it went well with her since she lived in Africa. They took out both of their accents in MGS4 as well.

I was just happy to have a FP view when aiming weapons on Twin Snakes and lets face it, 100% 3D games on the PS1 aged a little on the rough side. Look at Silent Hill 1 as well, which looked kinda rough when it was out even. Some exceptions I can think of are Brave Fencer Musashi, Tobal 2, Vagrant Story, FF Tactics and Xenogears. Interesting how those are all Squaresoft games. I really didn't mean that list to be that, weird huh.

Still, for MGS 1's time, it looked great with how they did the polygons and looked OK for a while, but years and years later... hmmm. Graphics aren't everything, I know. Though, it was nice to even get a remake like we did.

Any who, my favorites as of now in order roughly are:
MG2 Solid Snake > MGS3 > MGS1 > MGS4 > MGS2 > MG1

I'd honestly trade an HD port of MGS1 for cheap quick remakes of MG1, 2 and Ghost Babel in 3D.

After years of being obsessed with this series, I thought I was finally over it. I mean I am looking forward to MGS: Rising quite a bit but not on the same level as I did the previous games.

But right now I have a seperate tab with Youtube open playing some MGS music. And now I'm thinking about how long its been since I played through the MGS games, I haven't touched any of them since I played MGS4 several times right after its release. I can feel the obsession starting to build up again...

C'mon man. I've been waiting for a remake of Metal Gear for years now. When they do it, they need to do them justice - as much love as they gave the Solid series, at least.

I kind of wish they would end the series after MGS4 though. It tied up all the loose ends and finished the story in a satisfactory way.

"The Best Is Yet to Come" is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.

**MGS4 SPOILERS**

Remember in MGS4 when Snake goes back to Shadow Moses Island? And as he's approaching the helipad, "The Best is Yet to Come" starts playing? That was one of the best scenes in any game, ever. The place has aged as poorly as Snake himself.

#1.) Remake of MG1 and MG 2 with current gen graphics and technology. Those levels, enemies, bosses and story would be awesome interpreted in an MGS style presentation. Hearing Hayter as Snake in this setting would be sublime, and we'd actually get to, I don't know, play Solid Snake in a Metal Gear Solid game. Not old Snake, not Raiden, not Naked Snake. I have nothing against ANY of these characters (the hate on Raiden is unwarranted, IMO,) but I'd appreciate an opportunity to play that character, in his prime, in the stories that made his legend.

#2.) Remake Ghost Babel with current gen graphics and technology. It is an amazing GB Color game, maybe the best game released on that platform.

#3.) HD remake of MGS1. Either version is fine. I enjoyed the original and I enjoyed Twin Snakes. Both were good games. The only REAL problem with Twin Snakes is that the enemy AI is a bit too unbalanced for the more restrictive zones of MGS 1. The areas aren't as wide open. But I really liked playing MGS 1 with all those MGS 2 gameplay elements, overall. I even liked the cutscenes. But I also understand why some people don't like them.

For my part, the Twin Snakes cinemas with Solid Snake acting like a superhero go against the vulnerability and everyman quality of the character. On the other hand, it makes it more believable that he could go toe to toe with some of those ridiculous boss characters.

I also prefer the voice acting in Twin Snakes a fuckton over the original. It's WAY better overall, IMO.

i liked all of the MG series except for those on the psp. mgs1 and 4 are at the top. I still play them both a lot. I have been playing mgs1 on the dreamcast just for kicks and it looks pretty good . As far as HD remake im all in for that as long as its disck based.
Anyone play the pc version as far as i remember it was far better then the ps version.

MG> MGS>MG2>SR>everything else

Its best years happened before 2000... then it sort of fell on its face, mainly when it went from "fun, innovative game" to "shitty movie delivery system".

Snakes Revenge is better than MGS3. Srsly.

That should be the new "subtitle" Metal Gear Solid 6312867: Shitty Movie Delivery System Action

Maybe my jokes need to be a little less subtle.
