It's just a rumor at this point, but I could definitely see this happening. I've been hoping for this since the first HD repack came out.

I'm not sure how well MGS1 would clean up, but I bet they could get MGS2 and 3 looking amazing in HD. The two remakes I've purchased (God of War, Sly Cooper) have been great compilations, and totally worth it.

I don't care that I already own several copies of each. Count me in on this if it turns out to be true.

I am so there. Would be well worth the price of admission.

ME TOO! I have bought Metal Gear Solid for PS1 about 3 or 4 times and am more than happy to have an excuse to play through it AGAIN! It's by far my favorite with number 4 coming in a close second.

I love MGS2 and 3 and really want to play them again. I've only played through them once, getting ready for MGS4, so I need to go back!

I hope this is true.

If Metal Gear Solid was redone in HD but left exactly as the original one was, meaing No Twin Snakes "revisionist" crap with different voice actors and stuff, then I'd be all for it. Basically the original game with a visual upgrade is all that's needed. No I was never a fan for the Game Cube "Twin Snakes" nor Kitamura's Matrixy stuff.

This could be good shit, I didn't like the other metal gear solid games all that much but I'd be down for an HD remake of it assuming a graphics update is all it gets (and maybe that bullshit Kojima wanted with the "you die, your save is deleted and you start over" as like an additional difficulty)

Yea the second Snake stepped on that missile and did a Matrix jump over it, it officially jumped the boat. Twin Snakes was an interesting idea, and as much as I love old Silicon Knights, it never really jived with the original. Why did they have to ruin Mei Ling's voice?!

You mean have the same actress drop the shitty accent and sound like a normal person? I was just fine with that. Mei Ling was raised in America, so why would she have an accent that makes it sound like she's lived most of her life outside of the U.S.?

The cinemas were goofy as fuck, though, but you can blame Kojima for that. Ryuhei Kitamura made them crazy at his request.

All the voice actors were the same in Twin Snakes, except for Gray Fox. Damn near everyone went by pseudonyms in the PSX version, but everyone that was involved with that was brought back for the remake.

Sounds good, though I've got the God of War HD release but I've still not finished those. I'd buy it but probably never replay them.

I'll put myself in the "liked Twin Snakes" camp.

I would consider buying a cheap PS3 if this is real and good.

Unless they redo the graphics, this is going to look like absolute shit in HD.

Ditto. I'm currently without an SDTV, so I've taken to playing the PS2 through a TV Tuner card on my PC. It suffices if I play it in a window, but I would kill for a full screen 720p/1080p version.

Hopefully 2 and 3 would be the Substance/Subsistence versions..

this is the only Metal Gear game i can still play

i kind of stopped caring about the stealth/action style of play but MGS sits so well with me i'd definitely be all over this (actually been meaning to play through it again sometime soon so hopefully it's real and not too far off)

Yeah, I mean I never played the twin snakes but I didn't like the idea of it because I hated versus and the returner. I am still open to try it and would buy the collection if it was twin snakes, but would prefer the original, cutscene wise.

All the voice actors were the same in Twin Snakes, except for Gray Fox. Damn near everyone went by pseudonyms in the PSX version, but everyone that was involved with that was brought back for the remake.

#1> Yes I'm aware that all but one voice actor came back for the redo on Twin Snakes, but I'm sorry. I felt their performances sucked. I actually had both versions of the game running damn near simultaneously at one point to compare and the PSX original was king of the hill. Outside of getting caught up on semnatics (Mei Ling's origin) I felt that was part of her charm was that she had such a thick accent. Then there's Dr. Naomi... it's like the voice actress didn't even try the second time around. Same thing for the guy who voiced Liquid Snake. Compare it to the 1st time around and it's more like he was sleep walking through it. And Gray Fox not sounding like what I had come to expect him to sound like was a deal breaker for me.

#2> All the more reason I really don't care for Hideo Kojima as the years have gone by. The dood messes with his own IPs for God's sake when they clearly don't need to be. The first two Metal Gear outings, though 8-BIT 2-D had "camp" in them, (and even to some degree the non canon Snake's Revenge) but were done in a serious manner. This tradition followed suit with MGS being the first two retold in 3-D and it worked. Then from MGS2 onwards he started going really into left field. I honestly can't stand the series from MGS 3 onward. It just gets too fucking weird, with basically "Freak of the Weak" bosses and shit. I think it worked for the 1960s era prequel that is MGS III: Snake Eater... but the convolution of #2, and from what I have played (the rest watched) of MGS 4 just I dunno.

Then the dude pimps out the IP with putting something like "Peace Walker" on a fucking mobile system with inferior graphics, instead of having that be some landmark PS3 outing, and the stuff going on in that game kind of hints at a technology that doesn't jive with the origins of Outer Heaven (including physical locations) for what we know to be Metal Gear #1. The man is too damn inconsistent in his approach, and has Snake doing super hero stuff when he's an ordinary guy. Allowing Kitamura to have stuff like the missile jumping thing, (I didn't know that) just makes me want to scream. WHY Kojima... WHY!???

For me it's, MG II: Solid Snake > MGS 3 > MGS and nothing else exists anyhow. I prefer to have the ambiguous "Just Live Snake" of Naomi's voice over as he and Meryl drive off on the snow mobile into an uncertain future as the finale of the IP personally. And the whole Raiden thing... no fucking way. It's just too stupid now.

The reasoning for changing many of the voice actor's accent is irrelevant to me. They generally sounded worse.

I realize Kojima wanted something over the top, but it's the same reason the "special editions" of Star Wars are inferior to the original. In both cases, the director of the respective media was able to embellish and add extra detail they were previously unable to do. In both cases, I feel they went way overboard. A little extra polish here and there wouldn't have been bad, but what they did only muddied up the cinematics.

As Shag said, though the actors were technically the same, the performances just weren't nearly as good as the original. I hope they leave the original VO in tact. It's the most cost effective move and sounds the best IMO.

Preach on brotha. I could never fully get into Peacewalker. For the limitations placed on the game, it probably did the best it could. That being said, the mixture of Ashley Wood's ass-tastic art in place of cutscenes (awful) and no dual analog (camera control anyone) made it unplayable for me.

Did you play Peace Walker?

I want a PS3 MGS title in the same format as it and Portable Ops.

EDIT: Peace Walker Haters!??!?! I don't understand you. The game was f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c.

Don't get me wrong, everything about the game was amazing, but after playing MGS3 Subsistence, that right analog stick to control my camera spoiled me. Having it relegated to the d-pad or face buttons made it very unintuitive. I'd literally be forced to stop in place, look around, move, stop in place, look around.

Like I said, with the given limitations of a PSP, I don't think they could have made a better Metal Gear game. It just wasn't good enough for me. :(

I never played Subsistence.

I thought the game worked well with the control scheme, they took in to account you couldn't move around as easily and fluidly just using the face buttons. I was cool with that.

I wish the game was on PSN w/ dual analog support.

You and me both.:crying:

I had a glimmering hope you could have used the PSP Go's ability to link up with a PS3 controller to allow dual analog control. Sadly no.

More on topic...If they rerelease MGS in HD on PS3 I probably won't buy it. Just not interested.
