Man that makes me feel really old. I still have my SNES cart though, probably the only gaming related item I would flat out never sell or get rid of.

Square-Enix, do me a favor and never do another Chrono game, ever. You would only fuck it up.

at least someone gets it

all these people disappointed in chrono cross, well, what the fuck did you expect

did you really want a TRUE chrono trigger 2 with crono and the crew returning? after they had the adventure of all adventures, saved the fucking world, etc? really?

it's really, really odd that it's CT's 15th birthday, because, for no reason whatsoever, i was thinking to myself earlier today that it was interesting how crono dies and you can choose to play thru the rest of the game without him, not really as a character in the game, but as a third-party observer with marionette strings.

man. talk about a dream team game.

Owned that game for 5 years always intending to play it... I've put in maybe 30 minutes. Maybe this is a sign to get off my ass and get on my ass playing that game.

I've never actually played through Chrono Cross. I've gotten 5-6 hours into it a few times, but I always quit for some reason. I always did appreciate the different direction Square went with it though, as Sage said it would have felt cheap to just do another game with the cast of the original. Maybe this year I will finally sit down and try to finish it.

If you've never played through CT before, I highly recommend the DS port. Avoid the PS1 version like the plague, its a joke.

When I was younger, I always wanted to play it. Then none of the rental places would have it and it was expensive as hell.

I will say that it's easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played, hands down.

I like how they still try making RPGs while Chrono Trigger continues to exist.

I'm gonna be butchered for this but:

FF6 and FF7 are better than Chrono Trigger as RPG's IMO.

:crying:

CT: More accessable, short, balanced and high replay value.

FF6 and FF7: Better story / cast, deep and memorable.

And the story matters the most in an RPG IMO (I'm NOT saying it's the only thing that matters).

Man that makes me feel really old

That was my exact thought when I read the title.

I remember back in the day, even though it was a new release from Square, it still took me some time to hunt down a copy of it.

The thing that I didn't like about it (as well as Chrono Cross) was the New Game+ feature. You kept the levels of each character from the previous playthrough. That took all the challenge away from replaying different branching storylines.

Wow new game plus was one of the major things I really liked in the game. None of the fights were particularly challenging if you knew what to do, and it was a fun way to max out your characters without endless grinding.

There are better ways to do a new game+ than having to go through 80% of the game where I kill bosses in one hit and receive no more than single digit damage.

In the Tales of series, you get grade points for doing well in battles and can redeem those points in a new game for various bonus/handicap. But you always start from initial levels and equipment (except for a few special items that don't break the game). So the challenge is never lost.

Chrono Trigger is by far my favorite rpg, I liked FF VII a lot but CT is way better imo.
There's no nostalgia factor here cause I played CT for the first time about 2 or 3 years ago. I played FFVII in '99/'00 for the first time.
I recently unlocked every ending on the ds version and only need to get some extra items I didn't have yet.
Still love playing that game.

Beat this last year.

Enjoyed it. Great RPG... a bit short of epic though, IMHO

chrono trigger i remember very well. i haven't played it in a very long time, but it holds very strong nostalgic value for me. it was one of those games that Nintendo Power hyped up and it made my head spin as a young kid. it had really cool moments of tragedy and triumph. Mr. just-along-for the-ride-Crono, always seemed like he was totally indifferent to the whole thing, i guess mainly because he was the silent one. i remember cool things and moments like finding out Magus could be a playable party member but only in exchange of keeping Frog/Glenn as his amphibian type. so you kind of felt bad for Frog but having Magus in your party felt awesome.

well, just all around it was a great game. music was so fantastic and really had you humming the tunes away from the game.

i bought it at a time when a game like CT was about $70 brand new, but after paying almost $80 for FFIII in october of '94, it seemed cheap (or at least reasonable). but when you bought a game like those, you really got your money's worth. so much stuff to find, new game+, all the endings, rainbow weapons, etc.

i hope they dont make a sequel to be honest. its ok if they might use the a characters likeness or have a story that recalls the tales of the original CT crew, but that's about all i'd like to see. Chrono Cross was ok, but to me not on the level of CT.

I LOVE Chrono Cross. It's fantastic. Great story, good core characters, battle system, graphics, music. One of the things I remember the best is just the general 'mood' the game puts me in, with the music (which I find is up there with the best of FF and Trigger) and the colourful graphics. The Chrono Break sequel that never was is my most wanted game, after a 360 version of Progear.

Of course Chrono Trigger is better. It's just about the best game ever made, although I personally hold FFVII in higher esteem. I played the SNES release a handful of years ago, and have been putting some time into the DS version recently, after I got the XL.

I remember reading a review of Chrono Trigger back in the day in a Danish magazine (which I think was just a translation of a Swedish publication), and really, really wanting to play that game. A SNES and imported games were far out of my reach when I was around 11 years old though, so it would be almost another decade before I got to play it. Needless to say, it fulfilled all my expectations, regardless of the fact that I had played the three PSX FF's before.

Oh wow. This was the game that got me into rpgs. I remember going to rent Fatal Fury Special and it being out, so I scanned all the games until I zero'd in on Chrono Trigger. I recognized Akira's artwork anywhere, and decided to rent it solely on that basis. Holy shit, was I in for an amazing weekend.

Chrono Cross is an AMAZING game, too. It's a shame it's compared to CT, when the only thing it has to do with it is the brief cameo of the trio. CT is a much better overall game, but CC is still really amazing. Id also argue that CC has better music, too. Easily the best game soundtrack of all time.

You're not alone, I feel the same. I'm one of those folks who sold their SNES collection and moved on to the Playstation before Chrono Trigger was released. Had Chrono Trigger been release a couple years sooner I'd probably hold it with the same esteem as other do. And as for Chrono Cross's story and forgettable characters...say what you will, I know they both pale to CT's but CC's soundtrack is one that is ingrained into my soul.
