Today we have learned that if you pull the "VF trump card", anything you say is valid. As long as you play(or say you play) VF alongside a shitty game, it makes whatever game you dislike a shitty game and no one can contest it.

So if you love Mortal Kombat and you hate Street Fighter, all you gotta do is say "OMG VF and MK for Life SF sucks", then that means Street Fighter actually sucks and Mortal Kombat is an awesome game.

Dude, Tekken sucks. Get over it. Every character is a duplicate of the other with a couple new moves.

And all of the char designs are lame.

And you have a problem that I like VF better than Tekken. It's not like I said VF trumps all. This is the argument you're trying to make to fit me into one of your little boxes.

Here's the honest truth. SSFIV > all fighting games, ever.

What in the name of fuck are you talking about? Show me where I said that, because I honest to god don't remember. Just two seconds ago you had your underwear in a bunch about putting words in peoples' mouths, and then you pull that? Look up what I said about MOTW on this site., and a promise you you'll see me praising that game.

It's not really that damning though.

There was another post you made where after you sold it, one of your complaints was that the chars were too small. it was the final nail in the coffin.

Can't seem to find it. Maybe I imagined it.

All the way back in 2002?! Since then, I've probably made 30 posts sucking the game's cock.

The point is (was) that Tekken is a very good fighter. Virtua Fighter is awesome, but Tekken has a lot of depth as well. I will admit that you can pound on the buttons in Tekken and get more results than VF, but that doesn't mean there's a LOT more to it. You'd be surprised about how awesome the game is if you play it for a bit.

Also, about Tekken's character design sucking: one of the reasons Goh was so popular in VF was because he actually looked like a Tekken design. ;)

Anyways, one of the few things I can agree on with Itagaki is that Tekken SUCKS. But, so does DOA, so I don't know how seriously I can use him as a source for hatred.

At least the first Ninja Gaiden was good.

Okay.

I'll compromise.

I haven't played a Tekken game since TTT on PS2 in 2000.

I have a PS3 with BC. Where do I start?

As in, where do you start playing the series to see if you can get into it? If you have a PS3, is the download of Dark Resurrection still available? If not, I think Tekken 6 is selling for 20 bucks now.

Just get tekken6, DR is like 30 bucks with the online patch (which apparently sucks)

Tekken 6 is a awesome package for 20-30 bucks, tons of content to play for a long time even if you don't plan on taking it seriously as a competitive fighter. The campaign mode is totally underrated, they finally got that whole tekken force concept right.

Tekken 6 is really fun. It's the first Tekken I really liked since TTT. Playing online coop adventure mode with Spin is some of the most fun I've had in gaming.

I still like Tekken 4 a lot. I know I'm the only person on earth that will say that. Loved that one.

I've been at a tournament all weekend so I'm tired and i'm not gonna get into the whole VF/TK/SC debate bc its pointless and I've had it too many times across different forums. Spin pretty much has it right in here though. But I will contribute a few things here for fun.

Rade, your judgement is twisted and you're very misinformed. If SC is so great, why is it dead as a competitive game? I'm not gonna call you an idiot (like I wanted to) or say the game is trash (even if it is) but when the last two installments of the game each have game breaking flaws (3 had VC cancelling and 4 had Hilde) in them, its time to reconsider what you call good. The series is a shell of what it could be and pretty shallow for a 3d fighter. But coming from someone who says SSFIV is better than all games....I would expect no less than what you've shown.

With the reveal of young Hei & the announcement of the largest roster yet I wonder if they will have variants of more characters. I can only imagine finally having Marshall and Forest in the same game with different movelists, or seperate versions of Jack. There aren't a whole lot of characters they can surprise us with now, so we know pretty much what to expect but I'm really hoping for them to play differently from their current counterpart.

Also for the last time Leo is a girl!!!!

EDIT: Spike I still like Tekken 4. Aesthetically its my favorite bc coincidentally it looked more like VF with its character designs and more serious look. Gameplay wise I hate it though for reasons that are very well known.

I actually liked 4 a hell of a lot. Probably more than TAG. I have my reasons.

As for TAG2. The only characters in the cast that have not returned are Kunimitsu and Jun. Jun's moveset has been given almost entirely to Asuka Kazama so it's doubtful that she'll return.

I know why both of you guys like 4 hahaha. For O it was because Lee became a son of a bitch in that game and to this day Tekken 4 Lee remains my favorite Lee. And for Fred, King was better in 4 than Tag and he had some of Armor King's moves. Unfortunately I was mainly a Mishima player so for me Tekken 4 was the worst thing of all time.

But as far as Tekken Tag 2, you're right, there aren't gonna be any surprises really. The only possible surprises are how the characters are gonna play. I'm really looking forward to playing an updated kunimitsu.

I would really like to see Jun come back, she was a personal favorite of mine in T2. Probably because I had a demo disc where you could only play as her and Lei and I played it for hours haha.

Kunimitsu would also be cool to see return, I'm surprised Namco never made any mention of her again considering that almost no one who dies in Tekken stays dead forever.

Let's face it, Rade was right about only one thing, and that was some characters USED TO be similar. Kunimitsu was Yoshitora with knives. If they bring her back, I would hope for a totally different move set.

Oh my God, what a stupid mistake. Yes, of course you are right. Hell, I wish kunimitsu had Yoshitora's move list and style.

Anyhow, thanks for pointing out my mistake. Rade will remind me of it eight years from now.

I posted this link for all of those who remember the good ol' days of Tekken Tag Tourment. It's a thread at Tekken Zaibatsu that chronicles the memories from then Tekken Tag was the king. Reading these stories and watching the videos from this thread really brings tears to my eyes. It seems like Tekken will never be what it used to be.

For those that don't know or came to the Tekken scene after Tag, this would be a good read for you. Tekken was a whole different game back then.

This next Tekken Tag game has some big shoes to fill.

I started playing Tekken since 3 hit arcades (2 was around but it seemed slow paced compared to 3). When TTT came out it was the best of all the worlds with new moves, a big roster, and tagging! This game probably drew the biggest crowds in the arcade even when they had Soul Calibur 2 and VF 3. I didnt like Tekken 4 because of walls and they changed alot of the characters. THis was also back when Steve was broken and had way too much priority. I actually passed over 5 until DR came out. 6 is amazing. I hope TTT2 falls in as well as TTT did after Tekken 3.

I am not the world's biggest Tekken fan, but I enjoy it casually.

The point:

I care more about this announcement than I do about the Capcom crossovers.

I think the fact of the matter is that I don't care about 2D characters fighting 3D characters.

Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter would have been a more natural paring. Or maybe Tekken vs. Dead Or Alive, since VF is so very deep and would be dumbed down in play style to the point where the only thing that defins it as a VF IP is the use of the character skins.

But no one would care about those crossovers as much as SF vs. Tekken.

I will buy Tekken Tag Battle 2. The first one was a ton of fun.

Gosh I almost forgot about that. There is nothing more fun than walking around with 2 Paul Phoenix's and power punching the shit out of Bears and Kangaroos until money and items explode out of them.

Tekken vs Virtua Fighter would have made much more sense however Sega has this "I'm better than you" attitude. Namco has approached them at least 2 times with the idea of a crossover series and Sega has turned them down each time. Despite their differences they have so much in common and I'm sure the compromises would be a helluva lot less than a 2d game vs a 3d game. Oh well Sega had their chance and if VF:FS doesn't take off then it'll be their own fault cuz every other fighting game series is enjoying a good ol' time with this resurgence of fighters because of smart moves.
