Do you ever feel like condensing your gaming collection/purchases?

That really is your worst enemy if you actually buy the games they have available at those things. You must have a lot of Barbie Fashion Show and Alvin & the Chipmunks games. Maybe that Xbox Aquaman game.

Actually, I was planning on getting Metroid, Monster Hunter 3, and 3D Dot Game Heros.

Have you ever been to a Toys R Us 2 for 1 sale? They don't have any Metroid or Monster Hunter shit. They got Barbie. I think Barbie games are created specifically for the Toys R Us 2 for 1 sales.

Pretty much I did this a few years ago.

I have more or less what I'll play the rest of my life. Though I "Almost" made a mistake about (2) weeks ago when I was thinking of selling off EVERYTHING and needed to make no more than three bulk sales (collection sale)... but some good peeps from here on Face Book talked some sense into me. Damn glad I didn't do it. About the only thing I still want, is to commission Xian Xi to build me a 1-SLOT CMVS, since currently I can't play my all time favorite game Shock Troopers which is in tie with RASTAN SAGA.

Of course I do buy the occasional game here or there for the PCE Super Grafx + CD-ROM2 setup, or the Super Famicom. These days I'd rather spend the money on sex molds or sex dolls, if it's going to be spent on things I'm going to use, when doing it with the wife isn't an option or is going to be too much of a headache.

Hell I spend more time TALKING about gaming than I have lately playing ANY video game. You should however, condense your collection to "Must Have/Can't Live Without and leave it at that. Who's going to play over 1,000 video games these days anymore? I mean, yeah... when you're fourteen or something sure. Not at our ages. Though your mileage may vary.

Good Luck. :smirk:

I did this to my Genesis like 2 years ago.

I have my PSP, DS, 360 and PS3 stuff upstairs, and everything older than that is in boxes in the basement. It only takes up like 3-4 boxes.

Yes, I have been to those sales. Just a few games I've gotten: SMT: Nocturne original printing, Digital Devil Saga, R-Type Final, Phantom Brave, Zone of the Enders 2, Phantom Dust.

fakeXsound likes Barbie.

pass it on.

My cutoff line remains at PS2/PSP. Never bought into any current gen console stuff.

At first I held off buying the current gen consoles because I wanted to spend some time digesting the massive backlog of games I bought but haven't played, but after awhile I noticed there are barely anything new that are must-haves I haven't played before in some form. And since broadband isn't an option for me, the offline content of most of the current offerings are looking a bit slim.

Nowadays I have my friends over for the cab and classic gaming while they have me over for the current gen stuff. But it seems they're at my place much more often than the time I spent at theirs.

Filling our parents' house with all the consoles and games we're not willing to keep at our own places is one of my brothers' and my reasons for living. So no, I never think of scaling it back. If there's a system or game we don't own, I'm more concerned with filling that hole in the collection than scaling back. Of course there are many other more important priorities, and the collection doesn't grow when we're managing those, but otherwise we're turning that house into a museum of old video game junk, much to my parents' chagrin.

That is exactly where I'm at, too. Except I still believe I'll get a PS3 or something someday. I do really want to play MGS4 and...well, I'm sure there will be something else, eventually.

To me, collecting DVD is pointless, because I watch a movie one time and then I'm generally done with it. Those just sit on the shelf. I try not to even buy DVDs unless I have to.

I'm pretty sure that Aquaman came out for the GC, too. If not, then it has to be one of the most awful exclusives ever. Still doesn't touch Bruce Lee. (retches)

It's just a hobby that has its ebbs and flows.

Sometimes, there's a lot coming out and I want to play a bunch of stuff.

Other times, there's not much I want to do gaming-wise so I read or watch more movies or fulfill some other hobby.

The concept of 'quitting' it altogether makes no sense to me, to be honest.

And no, I don't get the buyer's/collector's remorse bug.

Sometimes I think 'I spent too much', but that doesn't push me away from the hobby. And I'm always glad I spent the money on it at some point down the road.

i do get the remorse bug, but get over it quickly. that last part about spending too much...i relate to that.

Well, now that the title has changed, yeah, I'd love to condense my gaming stuff. I wish all my games played on one all-encompassing console. That would be nice.

People usually don't quite gaming just like that, it sort of fizzles out, only to return a few years later. Then you'll regret selling most/all of your stuff. :smirk:

That's happened to most of my buddies:mr_t: Then they get sticker shock at the price of some of the games now...f'n Funcoland only gave me a buck for it. Yeah, but that was back in '94 dumbass:make_fac:

If I don't want to play a game or I know I don't have time for a game, I don't buy it.

That's a damn important distinction.

Back at the beginning of the decade, I saw a lot of stuff coming out and thought "Heck, I'll buy it, and be able to play it later." Some stuff was bought so I could experience some unique game design (this joke gets funnier as time passes). Some stuff was for continuing on with franchises that I loved as a kid. Others were because I thought that the stories were worth my time.

Looking back on it, a lot of it is just data written to optical media that, in a more admittedly sadder sense of the idea, hadn't even been played. It's dead weight. And since there probably won't be much time to play it in the near future, there isn't any compelling reason to keep most of it.

Just yesterday I was at Costco, and saw a copy of Okami for the Wii. "14.99," I thought. "I remember playing this game when I borrowed it from a friend, and kind of enjoyed it." But then I thought about the time commitment. And the fact that 14.99 buys other, immediately useful things, like beer or tomatoes. I came to the conclusion that it would just become more dead weight, and just left it there.

Then there are economic and cosmic questions that concern things like opportunity cost and overall quality of life stuff. Can I live a full life having not played the entire way through Okami? I'm quite certain of it, yes.

And that's a certainty that casts my past buying behavior in such an 'illuminating' light.

I keep 90% of my games at my parents house. If all of my games got stolen out of my apartment, I'd quit buying games for good.

Every now and then though, the cliche of "whats the point of owning something you don't use" rings a bell in my head. I can't accept this truth.

I live in a fantasy dream world where having a "rounded out collection" makes the relatively few games I actually play more enjoyable.

I can't enjoy emulation, or digital downloads. I don't even download music. I love plastic crap, and I know it's retarded.

Sometimes, I envy those who can live with nothing but a laptop, an ipod, and a stick with a hanker chief tied to it. Going with the flow...no attachment. I don't adorn my living spaces with gaming crap. I box up what I don't use. But I just can't let go.

I'm actually looking to condense the collection a bit right now. I've been in a phase of there not being that many games that I even want to play, let alone own to play later. There's a lot of stuff that I played years ago or WANTED to and now that I have, it just makes more sense to put them out there for others to enjoy, especially because if I do that, the things I can sell can be used for the few things that I DO want or hell, for other things all together. Looking to put up In The Hunt, Blood Bros, Strikers 1945, a few MVS, even some console stuff. Just waiting until I have everything I need to ship and then there will be a big thread for it.

Shame on you guys for always bringing up this pussy-ass regret crap. This ought to be the community that shamelessly embraces the raw thrill of hoarding. We don't have to hide here.
