I'll stick to d-loading 1080p (pirated) movies and then playing them on my TV.

Cheaper format.

I was going to post something like this. Now that I can take HD videos I've downloaded off the internet, put it on my phone, and then hook it up to my TV via HDMI, the thought of actually paying $30-$40 for a Blue Ray movie seems crazy.

As everyone else has already said: Better design, more energy efficient, and "whisper quiet" :p

If you don't care about memory card readers and PS2 backwards compatibility, a Slim is the way to go if you're going PS3.

What kind of phone do you have that allows you to do this?

Lots of phones do TV out, but here's a list of the current models that do HDMI out:
Acer Stream
Dell Streak
HTC Evo 4G
LG Optimus Z
Motorola Droid 2

Motorola Milestone XT720
Nokia N8

Any one of these could easily do the above.

PS: Awesome news on fixing the PS3. Good to see it was a relatively easy process to revive.

I have a phone that makes calls and can take blurry pictures. It's hard to imagine a phone with HDMI out so you can use it to watch HD movies on your tv.

I hate talking on the phone. I love watching movies, playing games, surfing the internet, and taking pictures/videos, though.

My contract expires in December and I can upgrade then, I was thinking about getting a Droid or something. I've always been about five years behind everyone else when it comes to phones mostly because I just don't really care about them, as long as I can talk on it when I need to I don't really need anything else. But seeing what some of these new ones can do now has grabbed my interest. I hate to jack my phone bill up with internet costs though.

That's why you get an unlimited data plan. Or get a phone with wifi and just surf the net when you're at home or someplace else with wifi.

The unlimited data plan will still cost money though, correct? Is it not a very substantial amount?

It's like $40, I think. This includes unlimited messages, which is what I pay for anyway, because I'd rather not talk on the phone if I can text.

Aren't all of the mobile "unlimited" data plans maxed at 5gb per month?

You can use that in a week or two if you watch videos and stuff.

I've never heard of a 5gb limit. Regardless, streaming 5gb over solely the phone towers in a month is a lot. If I'm ever streaming videos (and I have hulu plus and netflix apps), I always make sure I'm connected via wifi, which isn't using the phone service. I can't imagine the stuttering/horrible quality that would happen even over 3g.
