A little late to the Party here.

Seems like the PSP has been a pretty rocking little system now for a couple of years.

I'm interested in getting Peace Walker and I know there are quite a few turn based strategy games on the system that would probably interest me.

Plus it seems like the system has good synergy with the PS3.

So what titles are really worth it on this system.

Is the $199 Peace Walker bundle a good deal?

I've never used a 3000 model, which is what's bundled with Peace Walker. I heard the screen has issues, but who knows.

For good games that I own or have played, there are Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Lumines, Crush, the two Macross games, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy, MGS:POOPS, Practical Intelligence Quotient 1 and 2, Jean D'Ark. Ikkitousen: Eloquent Fist is pretty good too, at least when you keep in mind it's a beat 'em up from the late 2000s.

If you have the money, I say go for it. It's a decent system, but it doesn't have a ton of good games either.

Any other worthwhile beat'em ups, preferably 2D.

Anything comparable to say Astro Boy: Omega Factor (yeah I know that's asking a lot.)

PSP has a ton of great stuff and an even larger ton of garbage.

The 3000's screen is perfect so I don't know where claims that it has issues from fakexsound comes from but I'd like to read up on it as I have never heard of anyone with an issue.

God of War Chains of Olympus
Syphon Filter Logans Shadow
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles
Jean d'Arc
Disgaea 1 & 2
Riviera
Crimson gem Saga
Lunar: Remake #324678234
Resistence Retribution
Modnation Racers
MGS Peace Walker
MGS Portable Ops
Lumines
Loco Roco
Pursuit Force
GTA Vice & Liberty City Stories
Final Fantasy Tactics
Little Big Planet
Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins
Wipeout Pure & Pulse
Silent Hill Origins & Shattered Memories
Dissida Final Fantasy
Crisis Core
Patapon

there are countless more as well but thats just off the top of my head titles to look at. It really is a great system that after such a long period of mediocre sales is now finally picking up. Sony has stated they will support it with their "10 Year Lifecycle" business model so we should still see games on it for another 5 years.

There's aren't many.
There's Ikkitousen: Eloquent Fist and it's sequel that just came out.
There's also Kenka Bancho: Badass rumble. It has some adventure/RPG elements. Not a bad game.

Here's a list of RPGs (stolen from Digital Press):
I've highlighted the worthwhile ones.

If you get a PSP, don't bother with a Go. Limited storage, it's expensive, and you can't sell games you don't like.
Make sure you get at least a 4Gig memory card to DL PSN games, demos, and PS1 games.

Shit, I forgot they ported FFT with new classes and translation.

How's Jeanne D'Arc?

I just don't enjoy the Disgaea series one bit. Played a bunch of 1, and tried to play Disgaea 3 but I just couldn't do it.

I definitely want to try Rondo of Blood.

I'm interested less in JRPGs and more in action-rpgs or turn based strategy/tactical RPGs.

Oh I totally forgot about Yuusha30 / Half Minute Hero. I'd love to pick that up. The demo was great. Which is another good thing about the PSP - you can download any demo you want online and transfer it to your PSP. Hours of free fun right there. One thing that pisses me off though - and I'm sure you can tell this by the games listed so far - is that a shitton of the games are ports: Final Fantasies, Riviera, Ghosts and Goblins, Persona 3, Popolocrois, etc, etc.

If you don't like Disgaea, you probably won't like Jean d'Ark, though.

Ulasamosa, the 3000's screen issues have to with the arrangement of its pixels. Normally, they are arranged vertically, but for some reason, the 3000's screen arranges them horizontally. This creates a certain amount of scan lines. Sony has admitted that they can't fix the issue, since it's a hardware based problem. I'm sure if you google "PSP 3000 screen problems" you can find a lot of info on it.

Go for it man. It's one of my favourite games of last year. To be fair, I particularly loved it, but I think its quirky charm has appeal for anybody.

Anyways, I'd totally buy a PSP if I were you, 'Duf. I use mine all the time, and there are still quite a few good games coming for it (God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Patapon 3, those three Ys games, Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday, FFXIII Agito, etc etc). And the remote play feature is pretty good. Playing PS1 games (and a few PSN games too) remotely is pretty rad.

The back catalog is great, too. I'd say it's almost worth it for Peace Walker alone. Goddamn I love that game.

I think I'm going to do it. I just want to at least have some titles in mind to play after I beat Peace Walker. Probably pick it up in a week or 2.

What PSP titles are you particularly fond of besides Peace Walker and Half Minute Hero?

Hmm... Well, in no particular order:

FFT: War of the Lions (totally worth it for a proper translation, and the animated cutscenes are nice)
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Crisis Core: FFVII
Patapon 1&2 (these are platform highlights for me. Start with the first one, you can carry your stuff over to the sequel)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Mega Man Powered Up
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
GTA: Vice City Stories (if you liked Vice City, that is)
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Crush (great puzzler, very unique — it was a total sales bomb, so it's really cheap)

I'm sure there are a few I'm missing, but I bet you'd like those. And man, I tell ya — I've heard Jeanne D'Arc mentioned so many times I feel compelled to track it down myself. It's available as a download, but I'd prefer a hard copy if I can get it.

yea I found some stuff on it but apparntly its not 1/10 as bad as everyone whined that it was. All the articles are from 2008 when it first came out and one sometime early 2009. There would be current posts about it if it was a big deal imo. I don't notice it so I have no complaints.

MARCUS.

PSP.

Call Marcus... Call Marcus.. Who's Marcus? I don't know..

---

The main reason I like the PSP is for playing PSOne games.

I think i've had around 9 or 10 CFW psp's in my life, and I really only had them for emulators and PSOne games.

but... here are some good PSP games

- Hot Shots Golf 1/2
- The Vampire Savior Game
- MegaMan: Powered UP

There's too many to list.

Ride Racer
God of War
Sengoku Ace Episode 3
Puyo Pop Fever
Bomberman
OutRun Coast to Coast
Castlevania Dracula Chronicles
The Konami Portable Series
Gradius Collection (Part of the series above but released in the US as well)
Metal Slug Anthology
Guilty Gear series
Megaman Series

I know that Lags is an RPG man, so here's my suggestions on that.
Final Fantasy Series of course.
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth which is a remake of the first VP.
Lunar SSS 'cause it was great back then and it still is now.

Actually, I take that back. I think Jean d'Ark is a more solid and simple strategy game compared to the NIS games. It basically comes down to upgrading your stuff and relying on rock-paper-scissors gameplay, as opposed to Disgaea, which just seems too loose for me. In Jean you have a set party if I remember correctly, whereas in Disgaea, you're creating or contracting allies.

If you didn't like Disgaea because it's a strategy RPG, then yeah, you won't like Jean d'Ark. But if you didn't like it because of its quirks, I'd give d'Ark a try.

I'm generally a fan of strategy RPGs. I just didn't care for Disgaea. There was nothing engaging for me that would make me want to keep on playing. There is a lot to do in all the titles, but I just never cared to do any of it. I didn't mind the quirky story and humor but I definitely don't think it was good.

I also didn't really think the gameplay was that exciting. It was just boring for me. I also didn't care of the puzzle aspect with the colored tiles.

Oh, another one I've been meaning to play is Pangya, a golf game with SD characters. I hear that's pretty good and it's cheap too. I just need to make some shelf space...

The best PSP game I've ever played is Crush. Innovative, stylistic puzzle/platformer hybrid. Hilarious story, awesome music, good graphics (both 2D and 3D), and an incredible gameplay mechanic.

Probably my second favorite game of this entire console generation.
