I've decided that I'm goin to follow this game and see what happens, definitely, but I haven't been convinced of buying it yet.

What is this? An RPG?

Looks like another reason for me to get a Triple.

I love how all the news sites are just now creaming their pants over this even though I've had the trailer on my PS3 for a year now...

Looks like these Blu-ray graphics are finally catching up to laser disc graphics in games like Dragon's Lair.

Looks awesome! I hope this is coming to the US.

On a side note, I finally saw "Nausicaa of the Vally of the Wind" for the first time yesterday. Great movie (although I still prefer Princess Mononoke, Spririted Away, and My Neighbor Totoro a bit more).

STK tipped me off to this: track down Miyazaki's 7-volume manga-adaptation of Nausicaa that goes far and beyond the cartoon in every conceivable way. He wrote it over a long period of time (most of it was written after the movie came out, and many parts are different and much more deep and complex), and it will probably jump to the top of your list of his work --it did for me.

This is the first in the series.

Looks pretty sweet. Even if the gameplay isn't that great, it looks like it's worth getting for the visuals alone.

They really didn't show enough of the gameplay to accurately pass judgement on it.

Personally, just the fact that it's a playable Miyazaki film is enough to get me excited.

I am a hopeless fanboy of that man and his work.

What the hell.

Why did nobody tell me Ghibli was making this.

If this doesn't get a global release, I'll be importing.

Do you (or STK) know of any difference between the 1995 printing and the post 200X printings?

The 1995 printings are dirt cheap.

Heard about this game today on another site, and was talking about it at work with a coworker.

The PS3 version is definitely going to be the version to buy - it's hard to imagine Ghibli visuals looking as good on a small handheld screen.

The comics are obviously better than the movie (which was good, I'm not trying to criticize it) but much like every Miyazaki story ever, the ending is rushed. I've always felt that the endings for his projects have been a let down.

For the Nausicaa comics I remember reading an interview where Miyazaki said he had to end it because of scheduling, so he did it as fast as he could, and I think it really shows.

It almost seems like the bulk of his energy goes into character, setting, and scenario creation, and the actual story arc plays second fiddle.

And in the situations where he adapts other people's stories (Kiki, Howl, Earthsea) he usually makes inexplicable plot changes for the worse.

So I'm looking forward to his "version" of "The Borrowers" with very mixed emotions.

Yeah... It never occurred to me that they might not localize it. Let's hope so. If not, I'm with you — import all the way.

Well, I think it might have a chance of being localized. Studio Ghibli's movies are localized and published by Disney over here, and they're the biggest media corporation around, so they have the money to do it. If they see it as something they can make a hit out of - get movie stars to do the voice acting and pro screenwriters to rewrite the script - they may go for it.

All I know is the second printing, like the one I linked to, is printed in the Japanese format so you have to remember to read everything "backwards" (pages, panels, the order of voice/thought bubbles, etc). The quality is top notch. They keep a lot of the sound effects (which are heavily stylized) in Japanese, but they're easy to figure out and they include a reference in the back if you really want to know whether it's a "wip wip wip" vs. a "wup wup wup".

For the Nausicaa comics I remember reading an interview where Miyazaki said he had to end it because of scheduling, so he did it as fast as he could, and I think it really shows.

The ending definitely wrapped up quickly, but I had the feeling he would've just drawn out what he ended up writing in the final pages and the final epilogue paragraph. I wasn't sure if he was planning to outline more substantive story points....

[SPOILERS] While it would've been neat to understand if the comments made by the Master of the Garden about the survivability of people in the cleansed areas was true or not, especially since he implies Selm and the Forest People would know, I kind of liked the ambiguity and Nausicaa's determination at the end (even in the face of the comments by the Master of the Crypt and its eggs) and the will to just keep moving forward with their lives.[/SPOILERS]

The way I took it was that the 'warnings' of Master of the Garden and the Master of the Crypt at Shuwa were made in order to make sure the vision for the future of the people who lived in the "seven days of fire" would come about.

Anyways, great comic.

I'm really hoping it gets a US release soon, otherwise I'll definitely import it.
