That thread is deader than Michael Jackson. And just because you and I read that forum doesn't mean everyone does. It gets like one new post a day.

And what's sad is most of it is the iPhone/iPod touch thread. :oh_no:

I finished the game this morning. It wasn't as long as I thought it would be, but it was still an amazing experience. Of course you can continue developing Outer Heaven and the MSF after the credits roll. There are even more missions unlocked. One of them made me lol, but I won't spoil it.

This game, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite are tied as my favorite PSP games, hands down.

Good thing for the supply markers. It actually took me a while to figure out the last boss at first. I ended up using the M60 most of the time during that fight. The quest for ZEKE parts is my next goal. With regards to every boss battle in the game, I think Hideo Kojima was trying to send a message about why he changed the format from the previous games. It fits the mood, political climate during those years, and shows the contrast between soldiers and war machines/weapons.

This game is easily one of my top 5 'must own' PSP titles. Content aside, it was a very well done game.

I'm only missing Zeke's head at this point.

Could Zeke parts get traded?

I'm not sure, but I don't believe so.

And it turns out, I have not finished the game. Apparently there are two endings. This is a good thing, as the game definitely felt a bit short.

I heard about there being two endings. I don't really know much about it, but apparently you have to do quite a few extra missions to get the good ending, and I assume it can take a while.

I doubt it'll fall short for me either way. I've logged some 15 hours already, and I only just beat the Chrysalis. I'm addicted to capturing vehicles (now that I know how to do it every time :emb:) and using 'em in Extra Ops.

I just wish I knew where all the good recruits are at. I see a lot of C grade guys around, but if I want to develop the most badass weapons and items, I'll need a lot more than C listers.

Also, I hear there's some optional Monster Hunter stuff in this game. All I know about it is you need to talk to Chico extensively (which is great, that kid is hilarious) and then talk to the talking cat in extra mission 29. I think. I hope I figure that shit out, I want to fight me some monsters. :buttrock:

Definitely make use of the Analyzer once you can develop it. I didn't start finding B-Grade troops until right up near the end of the game. The Analyzer will save you time and trouble by telling you the grade of the enemy so you can decide whether or not to Fulton him.

Yeah, I'm already there, man. I choked my ranks with E guys until I started using it. Now I don't bother unless the guy's a C. I've already maxed out my personnel count in every squad, but I still have too many chumps in my force. At least my guys have the courtesy to sometimes die when I send 'em off to fight in parts unknown (usually versus a couple of tanks or something). :lolz:

So, no one knows how to do the optional Monster Hunter stuff? I'd check an FAQ, but I want to avoid spoilers. If all else fails I'll check up on it after beating the game.

Have you unlocked Extra Ops 029? If you have, enter that and backtrack to the area marked on your map as 'Playa del Alba'. This will be the same area you started out the game at - the beach with the little pier, near where you used a grenade to blow open the gate. Head down the pier and you will see a boat with Trenya on it. That'll trigger a cut-scene and you'll have the first Monster Hunting mission unlocked. :D

Just finished up and got the true ending tonight. My feeling about the story remains: it introduced some extra stuff, as opposed to doing what it should've done and filled in the gap leading up Metal Gear 1. Oh, well, this was still an awesome game and that real final battle was really enjoyable. I still need to get some CO-OPs in on the Monster Hunting missions, since those take forever by myself. The later battles where you re-face the AI units are the same way. They made those specifically for groups of four to team up and take them on.

Hmm, so I guess I will wait on the second AI battles until I can get some help with them. If you have Adhoc Party we can always get some games going.

I'm a one man wrecking crew. Give me the battle armor with 3 rocket launchers and I'll take out anything as long as I have enough ammo.

I almost ran out of ammo on the second fight with Peace Walker. Holy hell does that bitch take a lot of damage!

So I picked up this game, and as it turns out, since I have CFW installed, it won't run on my PSP. So I had to download a "fixed" copy in order to be able to play a game of which I own a legitimate physical copy. Now I think I have some idea how PC gamers feel about Ubisoft DRM.

Anyway, it's neat so far, but I really wish it had been on PS3.

Deuce: I'll have to check my old PSP to see which version it is, but the most recent custom firmwares allow 6.20 software to play. That's how I played the Peace Walker demo to begin with. IIRC it's 5.50 based, but it reports 6.20 to the game itself when it checks.

I think I've got 5.50 GEN-D4 or some such. I don't tend to follow CFW releases religiously, but if you have a more stable method, I'd love to know.

Ah ha! Thanks. I can't say I would have thought of that on my own. I heard it had something do to with mission 29, but that's all I knew.

As for the lead up to Metal Gear 1, I have a feeling ol' Kojima isn't done with Big Boss's epic yet. He seems pretty fascinated with that character, and I don't blame him. He's almost supplanted Snake as the series' main character.

I hope they either do another follow up game to this on PSP or whatever, or perhaps even remake Metal Gear 1 and 2.

Hmm, so I guess I will wait on the second AI battles until I can get some help with them. If you have Adhoc Party we can always get some games going.

Dang... I really wish there was a way I could set that up without tearing things up and rearranging furniture. If you're still stuck in a few days, let me know, and maybe I'll go to those lengths... I certainly wouldn't mind trying the multiplayer out.

Me too. I've been able to handle anything so far, though I did get spotted once in two of the final missions. I plan on going back and doing 'em with no alerts later. I've already done the whole game with no kills (except for a couple tank battles where you have to face like 15 guys — not enough Fultons).

Anyways. I haven't got the 'true' ending yet, but I did beat Peace Walker this morning. Holy shit, that is an epic battle. I have to admit I never expected something like that on a handheld. Simply awesome. I'm still hooked, too, and I've logged about 35 hours on the game so far. This is definitely a worthy successor to MGS3.

P.S. Ask Cecile about Picasso for a particularly funny conversation... The one about wine is pretty good too. :lolz:

I got Adhoc Party. Just give me an add on PSN and we can set up a time to pop on there and tear shit up.

Well I tried that Monster Hunter shit... I managed to defeat the first one pretty easily. It takes a while, but I blew the fuck out of it with rockets. Apparently that's not what you're supposed to do, though. You're supposed to blast pieces of it off (according to the reprobates at GameFAQs, anyway) so you can use them to make stuff. I'll give it another go later.

The second monster, though... Tigrex. That fucker is impossible. I seriously don't know if I can do it alone. My weapons aren't fully developed (far from it), but even with maxed out gear I don't see what the fuck I can do. It's so fast that it can be all but impossible to dodge, and sometimes it charges you repeatedly as you lie on the ground like a chump. Each hit takes you within a cunt hair's breadth of dying, so your rations are gone in no time. I managed to get it halfway dead and that was it, and I was using rockets. Clearly this was designed for co-op — frustrating stuff, what can I say.

Also, I know what 'Duf was talking about back in the day. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but after you beat the game proper, you can go on a 'date' with Paz. I won't say how it ends, but given the fact she's sixteen and Big Boss is damn near forty, it's creepy. What the fuck were they thinking.

Odd... I could have sworn they said she was 16 (repeatedly). Whatever. Still creepy. I heard that if you listen to her diary (which I don't know how to do just yet), she talks about fooling around with Dr Strangelove, too (!). Guess she really gets around...

Anyways. I've been playing some more of the extra missions. Man, some of 'em are rough. There's a helicopter fight that really gave me a lot of trouble — dodging its missiles is really hard. I was carrying a lot of gear, though. Maybe next time I'll try it naked with lighter missle launchers, like the LAW. It'll take longer, but at least I might get through it in one piece.

I'd advise staying away from GameFAQs, too, by the way. Aside from the general brain-killing idiocy you'll be subjected to, I accidentally read about what the real last fight is (which is a big surprise ) and I found out someone dies. The last one's not so bad, the the former... I really wish I didn't know that. Goddamnit. It's my fault, but still.
