You don't mess around with Jim! Operator is probably my favorite Jim Croce song. My girl thought I was nuts when I dropped $10 on a Jim Croce album. She found a greatest hits the next day at a garage sale.

I've told myself it was too late to get into vinyl back when I was in high school. That was kind of dumb logic...but I never started. It's just one avenue that I refuse to dump a ton of money into. I still have my entire cd collection...and I used to dump stupid amounts of money into OOP and first pressings of cds. Not anymore.

All of my retarded collecting/money wasting has transferred from music to video games. I didn't have the patience to become a vinyl "noob" and build a collection from the ground up back then, or now.

That being said...I do like the sound of vinyl. It's the real deal...CDs can be considered just "ports". Also, If a girl walks into your room and sees a huge shelf of 200 records she'll salivate if she's cool. Unfortunately for me, the same thing can't be accomplished with a wall of kanji filled spines. That's where my collectors bug is. I hardly ever buy music anymore.

I just re-buy my favorite CDs on vinyl, or EPs that never got pressed to CD. I have Lostprophets' TheFakeSoundofProgress, which is pretty rare and also transparent, The Receiving End of Sirens' The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi, and Circa Survive's The Inuit Sessions. I've always meant to pick up Planet of Ice from Minus the Bear, and I've been searching for the original EP by This Is Hell.

I was going to post a thread like this not too long ago, just got lazy though.

Anyway, yeah I've been recollecting Vinyl for the past couple months, picked up some good deals on some nice records, mainly new stuff since some people don't know how to look after things. Can't believe some of the prices people will pay though, I thought I entered a dying sell off, but I was wrong, it was only my first few I purchased that were good deals. Noticed this thing is pretty addictive as well, always got some vinyl in my watch list on ebay, actually won 2 sets in the past 24 hours, one being a Stereophonics 10" Boxset, looks awesome, second one I've won, but since the drummer died over a week ago I think the seller thought it would shoot up in price, but lol

I'll post some pics this week.

I love vinyls, and come to think of it there was a thread here and some peon was giving me crap 'cause I called the records "vinyls" what a bum!

I grew up with vinyls and I still have some of them fom back in the day, lately I've just been getting some of the different thing I used to listen when I was a kid. Last month I got a hold of a Donna Summer album "On the radio" and it was great! Just the other day a friend gave me a ton of vinyls, including some brand new Savatage, Queensryche, and some Bee Gees, so I've been styling with the Bee Gees.

I really wanna get a hold of some Bob Marley stuff on vinyl.

PS: Oh yeah, just last week I was in Newbury comics and I got some Dream Theater, Santana, Carl Off Carmina Burana, all of them for under 30 bucks!!! brand new too! That's a really sweet deal!

I havent actually collected vinyl in years but I still have lots of my collection left... sadly dont even have a record player right now, its another thing on a long list honestly.

I had hundreds of records back in the day... mostly NY hardcore, Oi, Punk, metal and soundtracks. Some of the rarest of my gems were Revelations records 1-30 (all first pressings-- not sure if anyone is even familiar with them here), Agnostic Fronts "Victim in Pain" 7 inch, lots of the early Earache and Roadrunner releases, some early minor threat and misfits demo 7 inches and all of the Iron Maiden records including a signed 10 of maiden england.

All of the Iron Maiden albums were gatefolds with the awesome Derrik Riggs artwork spread out over them... so badass.

Still have most of the mentioned stuff but alot was stolen, lent and sold over the years... some real rare ones too that I know I will never see again.

One day I really need to get a nice record player again...

There are 3,000 copies of The Inuit Sessions. Oh, also, I have the original White Album that has the butcher shop art underneath the sticker as well as the stuff my parents had like The Beach Boys. I found Ultimate Spinach in their vinyl bookcase, which is awesome 80s prog. I asked my mom if it was hers or if it was my dad's, and she didn't even know what it was.

I was watching Jeopardy a few weeks ago and one of the subjects was about "retroactive" words. I guess the word "vinyl" was used only after cassettes took over. Before then, they were only know as records. I don't know how accurate this is since I was not alive at the time.

And I just remembered I have some Thrice and Thursday 7"s, and the Televators single and the golden Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta (their only good full-length IMO).

I wouldn't say I'm a collector, but I like vinyl. I generally buy the artists I really like from 70's and 80's on LPs from Bowie to hardcore punk to krautrock. And for 45's I like 80's one hit wonders pop. The instrumental version of Wham's Wake me up before you go go anyone?

The next vinyl I want to get is Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat. There's something about tracks that take up a whole side of an LP that just doesn't fully translate when on mp3 or cd. I just find it cool to listen to those long ass songs on LP rather than other formats.

I always stop to check out the vinyls when I go to the swap meet. They're usually in piss poor condition but almost always cost $1. I've picked up Kraftwerk's Computer World and Meet the Beatles for $1 each at the swap meet!

forgot to add, my most prized vinyls are my trilogy of Can albums; Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, and Future Days. I can spend a whole afternoon listening to those albums.

I bought another Beach Boys Album this afternoon (Surfs Up). It was on clearance for $10 from $20. Bastards still want $25 for Pet Sounds. Ah well.

I'm sure it will eventually be a garage sale purchase. I just get cranky at the music store. For example they have a super deluxe 180 gram etc version of Dark Side of the Moon for $30. That's the stuff that kills me. I got my copy for 75 cents.

I dont collect vinyl but i´ve been buying vinyl for almost 10 years. I dont like the word "collect", it just doesnt sound right! There´s couple of vinyl stores around here, not always the best prices but they´ve got good stuff. I like Rock n Roll and all it´s "cousins", punk rock, garage(thanks to Prof. Denim), metal, hard-rock etc.
For the past couple of years i´ve been listening and buying 60's south american psycadellic garage bands like Los Monjes, Los Saicos, Los Yorks etc. Really amazing stuff! My latest acquisitions:

I also got a THOR LP for my birthday!!!

I never thought of myself collecting vinyl.
more of buying them for functionality.
there's alot of lps that are before my time that I've just never seen on cd.
sometimes I'm surprised by the quality of the music, some of the songs,
content wise that never gets much attention nowadays since
they weren't singles back in the day.

I collect records. There was a thread about it a long time ago and I'm pretty sure I posted my whole collection in that.

Anyway, it's mostly punk rock and old hardcore. I didn't buy anything new for a long time, but a cool record store opened in SLC last year and I've been buying one or two a month for the last little while.

I have some pretty cool stuff... Off the top of my head, I have all the Subhumans albums, a couple original Dead Kennedys albums (one with a poster that is extremely rare), this old LA punk rock compilation called Someone Got Their Head Kicked In... There's quite a bit more too. I'll go through and see what's up. Vinyl is pretty fun.

Also, the turntable I have is fresh. It's a Technics (don't remember the model number) and I got it for like $3 at a thrift store.

I went through and organized my collection. Some pretty cool stuff. Here's a pic:

I was sorting them by genre and took this picture before I put them back on the shelf. Psychobilly records on the far left. The 7" in front is hand numbered #1/500. The middle stack is all country and 80s music. The small stack above that is all ska. The one above and to the right is all underground rap. Some cool stuff there. The Smut Peddlers album and Deltron 3030 instrumentals. Bottom right is all punk rock. It's by far the most populated genre for me. Rad stuff.

Just thought I would share!
